Abstract: A diaphragm operated valve having the diaphragm attached at its lower end to a valve closure plug, and movable therewith, and attached at its upper end to a portion of valve body that forms the pressure cavity. The diaphragm has a stepped portion between its upper and lower ends which folds back on itself when the valve opens. The valve body has shoulder portions that support the diaphragm when the valve is closed to avoid stressing the diaphragm material due to pressure in the pressure chamber. This allows the outside diameter of the diaphragm to be minimized, and eliminates the need for fabric reinforcement. A filter screen is positioned flush with the surface of the valve plug so that high velocity flow across the screen while the valve is opening and closing removes accumulated dirt thereby making the screen self cleaning.

  • Patent number: 7182857
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a pressure limiting valve for preventing transmission of elevated pressure to components downstream of the apparatus. Preferably, the pressure limiting valve is used in combination with a flow regulating device that maintains a substantially steady flow rate through the apparatus even when subject to a wide range of applied pressure. The apparatus of the present invention is preferably suitable for use with filter systems wherein the pressure limiting valve is placed upstream of filter components that have limited burst and fatigue life capabilities. By isolating the downstream filter components from pressures that are greater than the target pressure range for a given application, the filter components can be designed to operate at much lower pressure, can be produced at a smaller size, and at a reduced cost.

  • Patent number: 7000782
Abstract: An inline backwash, flushing filter assembly comprising a header assembly, a rotatable valve assembly, and a filter element assembly disposed within a filter housing assembly. In operation, the controller moves the turn knob of the rotatable valve assembly a one-quarter turn which results in the reversal of fluid flow through the assembly to periodically back flush the filter utilizing fluid from the system inlet. Debris removed from the filter element during the backwash process are immediately discharged from the system through a drain port. Simultaneously, the hydraulic shearing mechanism of the backwash process dislodges and drains debris which may have accumulated on the screen and at the bottom of the lower filter assembly during normal filter operations. The controller then returns the filter assembly to filtration operation by a reverse one-quarter turn of the turn knob of the rotatable valve assembly.

Abstract: A replaceable filter cartridge assembly for a liquid filter and a liquid filter in which such a filter cartridge is installed. The filter cartridge 10 is provided with a support element 15, and a seat 20 for a sealing membrane 19 is provided on the support element 15. The sealing membrane seals the inlet 22 of the housing via a sealing edge 21 that acts as a return flow barrier over the inlet. The sealing membrane 19 also has a radial sealing surface 23 to provide a seal between the support element 15 and the outlet port 24 of the filter. This permits the filter cartridge to be manufactured in a particularly cost-effective manner and assures simple mounting within the housing. Since only the filter cartridge, which can be pushed onto the support element 15, needs to be exchanged, very little material has to be disposed of when the filter is replaced, which further increases the cost-effectiveness of the filter in use.

  • Patent number: 6875343
Abstract: A dual direction bypass valve allows a transmission filter to function whether or not it is placed in the vehicle transmission correctly. The filter includes a front and rear valve bodies separated by an end cap, and each having a spring and disk. When the filter media is clogged during normal forward flow, the fluid pressure on the rear valve body disk compresses the spring, opening an aperture in the end cap, allowing the fluid to pass from the front valve body through the rear valve body to the outlet, bypassing the filter media. If the transmission filter is placed in the engine backwards, the fluid pressure compresses the spring of the front valve body and opens up apertures in the end cap, such that the fluid flows through the apertures and the front valve body, bypassing the rear valve body and the filter media, to exit the filter.

  • Patent number: 6027640
Abstract: A filter including a combination bypass valve and anti-drain valve is disclosed herein. The filter includes an annular valve support which supports an annular valve member disposed between the support and a filter cartridge. The valve support has an inner sleeve portion which seats against an end plate and an outer sleeve portion including bypass louvers therethrough. The valve member has an expandable collar portion which normally seals the bypass louvers and a skirt portion which normally seals inlet openings extending through the end plate. The skirt permits flow through the inlet openings into the filter but prevents out of the filter through the inlet openings. Excessive pressure caused by a clogged filter element deflects the expandable collar away from the bypass louvers thereby permitting flow to bypass the filter element.

  • Patent number: 6006554
Abstract: Paper fiber suspended in black liquor is washed in a rotating drum divided into a plurality of adjacent sectors. The fiber is formed into a mat on the drum, and the drum is rotated so the sectors progress through a first wash and a second wash of progressively cleaner wash fluid. Each sector has two distinct drainage systems. One drainage system drains the first wash water after it has passed through the mat, and is then blocked while that sector passes through the second wash. The cleaner second wash fluid is thus kept separate from the more contaminated first wash fluid, and is recirculated to be used in subsequent cycles as first wash fluid.

  • Patent number: 5996608
Abstract: A diaphragm-type control valve for irrigation systems has an outer clam-shell housing that encloses a vertically reciprocable diaphragm assembly. A primary valve seat inside the housing is engaged and disengaged by a seal on the underside of the diaphragm to open and close the valve by connecting and disconnecting its inlet and outlet passages. Pressurized water from a lower inlet chamber of the valve travels through a small metering orifice in the center of the diaphragm assembly to an upper pressure control chamber above a flexible membrane of the diaphragm assembly. A solenoid actuated pilot valve is operatively coupled to the upper pressure control chamber for venting pressurized water therefrom to permit the diaphragm assembly to move upwardly to open the valve. A filter screen is mounted to the underside of the diaphragm assembly to prevent debris from clogging the metering orifice, clogging the small passages of the pilot valve, or fouling the solenoid.

  • Patent number: 5937887
Abstract: A method of assembling an electromagnetically actuatable disc-type valve permits separate assembly of the hydraulic components from the electrical components. The constant shape of the exterior surface of the core member enables the hydraulic sub-assembly to be assembled separately from the electrical sub-assembly and thereafter inserted into the electrical sub-assembly. The valve's plastic covering is applied to the electrical components separately and before the hydraulic components are assembled with the electrical components. In this way, the heat involved does not affect the calibration of the hydraulic components. A bushing is disposed to lock the two sub-assemblies at the desired relative orientation. The fluid filter is inserted into the valve before the calibration slide is inserted into the valve. The valve is flow checked before setting the tension on the armature of the valve.
