Screens, E.g., Woven Patents (Class 210/499)
  • Patent number: 6521096
Abstract: A screen, such as a drum screen or a flat screen, for screening or fractionizing pulp suspensions or the like suspensions of the pulp and paper industry. The screen comprises a reinforcement attached to the surface of the screen plate, such as a reinforcing ring (16, 18) attached to the surface of a drum screen (10). The reinforcement (17) is made of fiber-reinforced composite material. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing the reinforcement of a screen plate of composite material. The composite material is preferably made of reinforcing fiber and plastic matrix material.

Abstract: A fine filter assembly for a dishwasher includes a filter body having an inlet and an outlet located substantially adjacent to one another, and an extended flow path joins the inlet and the outlet so that essentially an entire length of the filter body is used for filtration. The flow path is sloped from the inlet to the outlet and extends substantially 360 radial degrees around a circular outer perimeter of the filter body. Therefore, wash fluid naturally flows from the fine filter inlet to the fine filter outlet all the way around the filter body, and substantially the entire filter body is flushed when the fine filter is drained and a main pump assembly is energized.

  • Patent number: 6517722
Abstract: A self-cleaning fuel oil strainer, coupled to a continuous fuel flow, that includes a pair of canisters, each having a cylindrical wedge wire fuel oil filter screen. An elongated brush running the length of the screen is disposed between two confining walls also running the length of the screen to form a chamber. A elongated partition, including two sets of apertures, is used, along with the elongated brush, to divide the chamber into two particulate dislodge chambers and a drain subchamber. A drain is in fluid communication with the drain subchamber. During cleaning, the drain is opened and the screen is rotated against the brush for liberating the particulate contaminants and a limited amount of fuel oil into the two dislodge subchambers. The particulate contaminants and the limited amount of fuel oil then pass through the apertures at a high velocity and into the drain subchamber which exits through the drain.

Abstract: A fine filter assembly for a dishwasher includes a filter body having a soil accumulation trough. The soil accumulation trough defines a substantially helical flow path between a fine filter inlet and an outlet. A natural flow path is therefore provided to efficiently clean fine the filter assembly with downwardly directed fluid jets generated by a lower spray arm assembly. Soil is directed to a fine filter drain tube with relative ease, thereby facilitating use of more efficient use of a drain pump inlet as a soil collection chamber during wash cycles.

  • Patent number: 6514408
Abstract: In a particle or sand screen control assembly for mounting on a base pipe used in a well, a sealing strip preferably in the form of a metal strip is used in a weld joint that joins the metal mesh screen of filter media to a solid metal structure or “safe edge”. The sealing strip covers the pores in the screen proximate the metal structure to which it is welded. The sealing strip is a separate thin sheet of metal that is compatible with the welding metal used in the weld joint, such that the sealing strip becomes unitary with the weld joint. Prior to welding, the sealing strip may be bent around the screen if desired, or may lie flat along the top or bottom surface of the screen.

  • Patent number: 6497816
Abstract: A device to be used as part of a new or existing rain gutter system, positioned between and joining an open-end gutter and the downspout, that utilizes the movement of flowing rain water to keep the system open and draining by floating and pushing nuisance debris to and out the low open end on to the invention. Removal of the low point end stop and repositioning the downspout connector eliminates the primary causes of pooling and build up of debris. Very steep smooth parallel bars, covering the top of a trough-shaped collector box. receive the effluence and separate the solids from the liquid, as the solids slide down and off the end while the liquids fall between the bars into the collector box for passage to the downspout connected at the bottom. The device enables the gutters to discharge at speeds and volumes consistent with collection minimizing the possibility of spillage while, at the same time, keeping the system open and flowing without the need for frequent hand cleaning.

Abstract: A method of repairing or refurbishing a filter screen is described. The type of screen is defined in the specification. The repair or refurbishment is effected by stripping worn or damaged wirecloth from the surface of the frame and placing fresh cloth over the frame and tensioning it as appropriate. Heat is then applied so as to soften surfaces of the frame over which wirecloth is stretched, so that the latter can penetrate softened plastics material in the surfaces and become embedded therein. The frame and its associated fresh cloth is allowed to cool, after which the applied tensioning is removed. Exposed edges of the wirecloth can be trimmed back to the surrounding flange. Plastics material may be applied to the surface of the frame which is to receive the new wirecloth, before the latter is fitted, to provide additional plastics material for bonding the wirecloth to the frame.

Abstract: The invention relates generally to a method of separating swarf lubricant from swarf solids. A centrifuge parts separator utilizes a screen which preferably comprises a cylindrical shaped member formed in one or more component parts with a plurality of spaced fluid passage openings therein with the ratio of the distance between the center lines of adjacent openings (x) and the median width of the openings (y) being x/y of at least 18/1. The swarf is centrifuged in the separator during the course of which operation, substantially all the swarf fluid passes through the screen openings whereas substantially all the swarf solid passes over the screen, the separated swarf fluids and solids each being directed to a collection site.

Abstract: A portable liquid-solid separator tank has a bed, surrounding exterior walls, a dividing wall. The exterior walls of the tank include a gasket door to allow easy removal of the filtered sludge. The exterior walls of the tank support sludge include inlet valves where the sludge is provided by a hose from a storage and/or mixing tank. The exterior walls also include a liquid outlet valve or valves for the filtered liquid to be removed and roller wheels that enable the tank to be easily transported. The tank contains a filter media mounted on a filter media support structure supported by the interior of the bed, exterior walls, and the dividing wall. The filter media support structure is composed of perforated metal supports and expanded metal supports. The use of the expanded metal supports in the filter media support structure increases the opening space in the support structure and reduces the amount of time it takes to filter the sludge.

  • Patent number: 6342156
Abstract: A multi-segment filter system is provided for continuous filtration of high viscosity materials, such as polymer melts. In particular, each segment comprises a filter screen positioned between a bottom breaker plate and a top cover plate. The filter screen has a fixed alignment in relation to the breaker plate and cover plate, to prevent the formation of undesirable gaps. In one example, the alignment is fixed through positioning of pins extending from the breaker plate and passing through apertures in the filter screen and cover plate. Two pins are preferably positioned on the breaker plate in a nonsymmetric manner to ensure that a multilayered filter screen is positioned adjacent the breaker plate in a desired orientation. Successive segments are positioned on end and preferably include overlapped filter screen portions, thus eliminating any gaps between each segment. Overlapping coupling connections may also be provided in adjacent breaker plates.
