    Abstract: This invention relates to a method of removing cyanide in the form of free cyanide (cyanide ions i.e. CN?) and weak acid dissociable cyanide (WAD) from an aqueous stream. WAD is cyanide complexed with metals such as Cu. The method finds particular application in removing cyanide from a tail stream from a carbon in leach (CIL) mining operation. The method of the invention is carried out by contacting an aqueous stream containing cyanide with carbon, under conditions wherein the Eh (oxygen reduction potential (ORP) measured in mV) of the aqueous stream is O or above. Advantageously the pH of the solution is buffered to from 7-9.

The bio-char is then removed from the liquid bath and dried so that the liquid within the pores evaporates, leaving behind the soluble agent. Accordingly, the invention yields bio-char that has soluble agent embedded relatively deep within its pores.

    Abstract: A method of using a sulfided iron reagent to remove oxygen from gaseous and liquid fluid streams such as natural gas, light hydrocarbon streams, crude oil, acid gas mixtures, carbon dioxide gas and liquid streams, anaerobic gas, landfill gas, geothermal gases and liquids, and the like is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the reagent is made by mixing, agglomerating and shaping finely powdered ferrous carbonate, preferably siderite which are used to remove oxygen from a hydrocarbon or carbon dioxide stream that also contains sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide.

The one or more beds of anion exchange resin are then regenerated in one or more stages to produce at least one product stream comprising the organic acid, a salt of the organic acid, or a combination thereof, and a separate outlet stream comprising the mineral acid, a salt of the mineral acid, or a combination thereof. The product stream is then recovered. The separation may be conducted with two separation units, or using a single anion exchange unit.
