Abstract: A system and method for extracting active elemental iodine from the contact of water with stored crystal iodine and for introducing the extracted elemental iodine into a water supply line and/or otherwise making the extracted elemental iodine available for an intended use. The system operates by allowing a portion of the water entering from a water supply line to be redirected to a first housing where it makes contact with stored crystal iodine causing to extract active elemental iodine. The iodinized water leaves the first housing and enters a second housing where it makes contact additional stored crystal iodine to help stabilize the elemental iodine concentration. The system can be designed to provide the elemental iodine in more than one potency concentration through the use of a metering valve and different travel routes for the elemental iodine out of the second housing.

Abstract: In a reaction chamber, which constitutes a component of a process installation for obtaining foodstuffs or foodstuff components, biological products in harvested form that are whole or in pieces are subjected to pulsed electric fields as they pass through said reaction chamber, said electric fields forming pores in the cell walls so as to irreversibly open the latter, thus making the content of the cells more easily accessible. This is achieved by electrode groups, which can be energized to a high voltage and are located in the wall of a longitudinal passage of the reactor through which the process material is moved past grounded electrodes located in an opposing longitudinal wall area. Each electrode group is connected to an electric energy accumulator such as for example, a Marx generator, by means of a switch, in order to rapidly establish electric fields of multiple directions between the charged and the grounded electrodes.

Abstract: An underground plume of water and soil which has been contaminated typically by H2S and/or hydrocarbon leakage from underground fuel containers is mitigated by a process of injecting a combination of colloids, peroxides and enzymes. This is accomplished by obtaining core samples to determine the extent of contamination thereby defining the perimeter of the plume, and drilling a series of injection well sites on a pavement or other surface to mitigate the leakage. In a first stage of mitigation, a colloid containing micelles is pressured into the injection wells, the colloid functioning to neutralize hydrocarbons, MTBE, solvents, and similar compounds, thereby mitigating the plume contamination. In a second stage, if mitigation of the plume contamination proves insufficient using colloid treatment, peroxides are then pressured into the injection wells. Typical peroxides could include hydrogen peroxide and various other peroxides.
