Closure Guided In Simultaneous Turning And Reciprocating Movememnt (e.g., Screw Threaded) Patents (Class 215/217)
  • Patent number: 4032028
Abstract: A screw-type safety cap for use in combination with a bottle is disclosed wherein the bottle is of the type having a threaded neck with a top planar edge. The cap includes a top wall and a depending peripheral skirt. The skirt has a thread on the inner surface thereof for rotatably engaging and securing the cap with the threaded neck of the bottle. The cap has a resilient member disposed under the top of the cap for engaging the top edge of the neck. The threads of the cap and the threads of the bottle are so dimensioned in thickness and space therebetween that the cap is axially slidable with respect to the bottle. The threads on the bottle have at least two interruptions which form at least two recesses in the threads of the bottle. The cap has at least two projections on the inner surface of the skirt. The projections are spaced both axially and radially with respect to each other as are the two recesses in the bottle thread.

  • Patent number: 4007850
Abstract: A safety closure for a container which makes difficult, if not impossible, access to the container contents by a child. A continuous helical thread on a container neck in which thread are formed a plurality of teeth each of which defines an abutment surface transverse to the thread. A cap interiorly threaded for engagement on the neck thread, the cap having adjacent the lower extremity thereof a pawl that engages the abutment on one of the teeth thereby preventing rotation and removal of the cap. The pawl is secured to the cap for resilient movement relative thereto and has a fingernail groove to enable adults to move the pawl out of engagement with the tooth abutments on the container neck.

  • Patent number: 4004704
Abstract: This tamper-proof plastic closure device with safety means comprises an internally screw-threaded plug matching the screw-threaded and beaded neck of a container. Said plug is retained by the neck bead engaging a groove formed in the outer skirt of said plug and the plug itself is covered by a cap in smooth frictional contact therewith; the central area of the internal surface of the flexibile and bulged top wall of said cap which is bounded by a rigid projecting circular rib, comprising means adapted to co-act with matching means provided in the central area of said plug when a sufficient pressure is exerted on said area, so as to rotatably drive said plug and release same from said retaining bead. This closure device is intended more particularly for bottles that should not be opened by children.

  • Patent number: 3989152
Abstract: Child-resistant locking means for a twist-action cap for a container. The locking means has two cooperating parts. There is an abutment on the container near, but spaced radially from, the container neck and a tab on the cap which engages the abutment and prevents retrograde rotation of the cap. The tab is flexed inwardly in order to be moved past the abutment both when the cap is screwed onto the container neck and when it is desired to remove the cap from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 3986626
Abstract: A combination threaded cap and neck finish for a liquid container having mating threads on the cap interior and the exterior of the neck and also having second cooperating cam means on the cap and the container neck for applying downward thrust to the cap to maintain liquid tight sealing of the container neck even when the cap is rotated in the loosening direction through an angle relative to the container neck so as to disengage the downward thrusting surfaces of the mating threads. Some embodiments of the invention also have child-resistant cooperating means which prevent removal of the cap unless such means are disengaged by a separate and different manipulation.

  • Patent number: 3984021
Abstract: A container and closure construction featuring locking arrangements in the form of registering dent(s) and projection(s) formed on said container and closure which engage easily and disengage only through purposeful mind-controlled manipulation thereof, coupled with flexing of one of said container or closure to accomplish said disengagement. A screw thread coupling of closure and container represents a preferred embodiment.

  • Patent number: 3979001
Abstract: The invention provides a protective or safety closure which inhibits inadvertent opening of the container. The neck portion of the container itself is provided with threads along which a notched portion, for example, in the form of serrations, is provided. The interior of the cap itself is also provided with threads which cooperatively engage the threads in the neck portion. Along the threads in the cap a notched portion, such as in the form of serrations, is provided to engage the serrations of the neck portion to lock the cap in position. Resilient members are also provided on the underside of the cap portion to engage the top of the neck portion which perform the function of bringing the notched portion in the cap into engagement with the notched portion on the neck of the container.

  • Patent number: 3963139
Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure combination consisting of a container having a circular neck and a twist-on cap therefor. The container neck has external interrupted thread sections with ratchet teeth on their under surfaces. The cap has similar, cooperating internal thread sections on the inner surface of its skirt with ratchet teeth on their upper surfaces. When the cap is turned onto the neck, the sets of ratchet teeth interengage and lock the cap against retrograde rotation. The cap also has a puller which is connected to the cap, a first section thereof being connected by frangible portions and a second section thereof being connected permanently to said cap. In order to remove the cap, the puller is broken away at the first section and then is pulled upwardly and outwardly relative to the container neck to disengage the cooperating sets of ratchet teeth. The cap is replaced by turning it onto the bottle neck for re-engaging the cooperating threads and ratchet teeth.

  • Patent number: 3944102
Abstract: A safety screw closure for use with a container having an inner screw cap on to the bottom edge of which an elastically expandable securing ring is attached by at least one rupturable bridge member. An outer cap is mounted on the inner cap and slidable axially between a first position remote from the inner cap and second position. A spring is located between the caps to normally urge the outer cap into the first position. The caps are provided with at least one set of cooperating coupling means which are in cooperation in any axial position of the outer cap when the closure is screwed on to the container whereas they are ineffective when rotating the outer cap in the opposite direction and when the outer cap is ints first position in which it is not depressed against the spring. The outer cap being dimensioned so that when in the first position it extends above the securing ring.
