Tear Strip Patents (Class 215/254)
  • Patent number: 7222741
Abstract: A tamper evident cover is provided for engaging a container cap or drum bung, which cover has a plurality of locking teeth that snap under and engage a lip of the container cap. A frangible strip permits severing the cover to facilitate removal of the cover, and a series of tabs extend from the locking teeth and bear against the outer edge of the lip of the container cap to prevent any forcible removal of the cover without substantial damage to or destruction of the cover.

Abstract: A container lid having a tamper evident and tamper resistant band formed of a plurality of equally spaced tabs having spurs that engage the rim of a container with latches formed on the spurs. In one embodiment the tamper evident band is unique because it hinges up instead of down and has a plurality of spurs with a stepped edge forming latches with the spurs engaging slots around the periphery of the lid. The reverse action makes the step edges on the spurs on the inside of tabs formed on the tamper resistant strip pull tighter when any attempt is made to pry or remove the lid from a container or cup. The lid also includes an annulus having interior surfaces that provide an excellent seal both inside and outside of the cup when the tamper resistant band is removed.

Abstract: A closure structure includes a closure body having a deck and depending sidewall, and a dispensing orifice through said deck. A closure cap has a lid part attached by a hinge to the body, and a cover part frangibly connected to the lid part, on a side of the lid part opposite the hinge. The lid part is latched to the body at lateral positions located between the hinge and the cover part. The cover part covers a lifting lip extending from the lid part. Removal of the cover part exposes the lifting lip for lifting by the user to open the lid part from the closure body.

Abstract: A closure structure for a container includes a closure body having a deck and a depending skirt, the skirt being adapted to be mounted on a container neck or formed with the container. A dispensing orifice is formed through the deck. A protruding member extends from a surface of the deck, the protruding member including a first locking ledge at an intermediate position along a length of the protruding member. A lid, hinged at one side to the closure body at a position opposite to the protruding member, has a socket on a side of the lid opposite the hinge. The socket has a receiver cavity open in an axial direction of the lid and includes a second locking ledge extending radially within the receiver cavity. The first and second locking ledges are engageable when the protruding member is positioned sufficiently within the receiver cavity when the lid is initially closed to the body.

Abstract: The cap snaps onto the neck of a container used on a water dispenser and has an inner cylinder, which engages a probe in the dispenser when the container is installed on a dispenser. The end of the inner cylinder is closed by a membrane which is frangible and grooved such that the probe breaks the membrane into a plurality of petals which are displaced and deformed as the probe moves through the cap. The membrane extends into the inner cylinder and is turned inside out as the probe passes through. In a preferred embodiment the membrane has an outer rim, a first frusto-conical portion, a second rim, a second, smaller frusto-conical portion extending in a direction opposite the direction of the first frusto-conical portion and a flat end.
