Patent number: 6116445Abstract: A sealing cap for the mouth of a container facilitates both the sealing of new bottles containing unused contents, and the re-sealing of those bottles already in use so as to preserve their contents. The sealing cap includes an inner cap and an outer cap. The inner cap includes a shielding plate which is fixed on the mouth of a container, and an annular strip which is provided at the lower end of the outer circumferential wall of the inner cap. The outer cap, which is fixed on the inner cap, includes a top lid, and a main cap with a guide tube having a lower-end sharp edge located opposite the shielding plate. By removing the annular strip from the inner cap and pressing down the outer cap, the lower end of the outer cap engages the outer circumference of the mouth of the container, and at the same time, the lower-end sharp edge of the guide tube pierces the shielding plate. The user then opens the top lid of the outer cap to access the contents of the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Kabushikikaisha FanclInventors: Kenji Ikemori, Takeharu Ohta

Patent number: 5484071Abstract: An improved tamper-indicating ring construction for threaded closures in which the closure and tamper indicating ring are provided with mating camming surfaces which are brought into contact when the closure is unthreaded from a container finish. The angle of the camming surfaces with respect to principal axis of the closure is substantially greater than the lead on the threads of the closure, so that when the closure is rotated to open the container, the camming surfaces push the tamper indicating ring downwardly to break the interconnecting bridges which link the ring and the upper part of the closure. The bridge members are positioned upon the camming surfaces and are oriented almost transversely to said principal axis, so as to be broken by shear rather than tensional stresses, this permitting the use of relatively stronger bridge members with the assurance that they will be broken with relatively little effort on the part of the user.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Inventor: Bruno Zumbuhl

Patent number: 5467880Abstract: A safety screw cap indicates prior opening of a container to protect consumers from prior contamination. The screw cap has an annular band encircling its lower end which is separated from the screw cap by a perforated line. The band is affixed to a fixing clement and the fixing element attached to the container when the screw cap is screwed in place. An unattached leader portion of the band can be lifted easily to peel the band from the container. As the band is peeled from the container, it is simultaneously tom from the screw cap at the perforations. Once the band is removed, the screw cap can be unscrewed and the container unsealed. Before peeling the band away, the screw cap cannot be unscrewed without causing obvious damage to the screw cap or band. In addition, the torque required to shear-separate the band from the fixing element, the fixing element from the container or the screw cap from the band is greater than that which can be applied easily by a normal adult.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1994Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Assignee: Toyo Seikan Kaisha, Ltd.Inventors: Makoto Etoh, Kiyoshi Kawaguchi

Patent number: 5415307Abstract: To ensure the original state of the contents of a receptacle, the stopper comprises inwardly oriented blocking attachments on a surrounding tear-off sealing ring, with the blocking attachments gripping below an outwardly oriented annular projection of the receptacle. The blocking attachments are formed by lateral slides which cooperate with an inner contour sleeve. The sealing ring is respectively connected by a single tear-off web centrally between two adjacent blocking attachments to the upper circumferential wall. As a result, the finished stopper can be slid from the contour sleeve after cooling to 80.degree., the blocking attachments being smoothly guided on the guide surfaces of the contour sleeve. The sealing ring bulges elastically between two adjacent tear-off webs and subsequently assumes its original circular shape again.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1993Date of Patent: May 16, 1995Assignee: Gaplast GmbHInventor: Roland Kneer

Patent number: 5386918Abstract: Disclosed is a closure for a container, the closure having a lid hinged to a base. The base of the closure has structure for locking the closure on a dispensing nozzle of the container. The closure has tamper evidence structure, to indicate whether the lid and base have been separated (that is, whether the closure has previously been opened). The tamper evidence structure includes a tear band; the closure cannot be opened without removal of the tear band. The closure is configured, and positioned relative to the dispensing nozzle, such that relatively little area of the closure contacts the material dispensed from the container as the material is dispensed, thereby reducing absorption of material components (e.g., flavors and/or oils of the material dispensed) by the closure. The top surface of the closure lid is configured such that the container and closure can be stably stood on end on the closure lid when the lid is in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1993Date of Patent: February 7, 1995Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Co.Inventors: George J. Patent number: 5370270Abstract: A cap composed of a snap-on, tamper-evident closure differing from others of this general type is formed with a central sleeve. The bottom of the sleeve is closed off by a removable plug. The exterior of the closure is formed with a bead. The water dispenser is provided with an adapter consisting of an open-bottom outer sleeve into which the neck of the container with the closure in place thereon fits. Centrally disposed in the outer sleeve is a dispenser tube. When the container is inverted its neck is inserted in the outer tube. As the neck and cap are lowered, the dispenser tube enters the cap sleeve and attaches to the plug. Continued lowering of the container causes the plug to slide out of the tube so that liquid in the container flows out through the dispenser tube into the dispenser. When the container is lifted, the plug (which has been attached to the dispenser tube) is pulled back into its original sealed position. The plug and cup are at all times discrete.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1993Date of Patent: December 6, 1994Assignee: Portola Packaging, Inc.Inventors: Brian M. Adams, Daniel Luch

Patent number: 5344036Abstract: A container system for reagents and other substances used in a medical diagnostic apparatus. The container system includes a vial made of blow-molded plastic, which can withstand lyophilization. The bottom portion of the vial has an annular groove and is shaped as a truncated cone below the annular groove. An auxiliary member can be snap-connected to the vial at the annular groove so that the vial will stand upright on a flat surface and contains a central aperture through which the vial remains in contact with the flat surface. The container system also includes a stopper at the mouth of the vial and a snap-on plastic cover to secure the stopper. The cover has a tab which is kept at a raised position by a lifter protrusion which bears against the stopper. The cover has tearslots which are ripped when the tab is pulled. One of the tearslots is shorter than the other and keeps the tab from being entirely detached from the remainder of the cover when the tab is pulled.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1992Date of Patent: September 6, 1994Assignee: Akzo N.V.Inventors: Liana V.
