Ring Type Patents (Class 220/319)
  • Patent number: 4133442
Abstract: A tank closure assembly adapted to releasably couple tank sections formed by transversely splitting an integral bag-molded fiber-reinforced tank. The assembly includes external circumferential flanges secured to the tank sections adjacent their severed faces and in opposed relation to each other. An O-ring seal, disposed externally of the tank sections and between the flanges, is compressed into sealing engagement with surrounding surfaces, by tightening of a circumferential band encircling the flanges, to seal the tank sections at their plane of separation. A method of machining a tank to simultaneously form the split sections and suitable flange receiving grooves thereon is disclosed, as well as a method of pressure-testing the machined tank sections prior to assembly of the flanges and O-ring seal.

  • Patent number: 4113137
Abstract: A new and improved device and method for hermetically sealing a lens window to a camera housing, which permits removal of the window from a pressurized housing without danger to the technician due to rapid or explosive decompression. The device comprises a unique combination of an O-ring seal and a square or rectangular cross-section face seal ring with two snap-rings in such a manner that removal of the first snap-ring causes controlled decompression of the housing, while the lens window is retained by the second snap-ring.

  • Patent number: 4111331
Abstract: A tamper-proof container closure device having a closed cap member and a crimping ring. The closed cap member is internally threaded and has a flared annular skirt extending around its base. The crimping ring is snapped into a retained position on the flared annular skirt before the cap is screwed onto a container. After the cap is screwed onto a container, the crimping ring is deformable radially inward around a suitable boss at the container opening onto which the container closure device is installed, thereby drawing the flared annular skirt into sealing engagement with the periphery of the boss and preventing removal of the cap without first visibly tearing off the ring.

  • Patent number: 4108328
Abstract: An aircraft fuel tank construction for the type of fuel tank which is fabricated by joining a split cylindrical center section with two conical end sections and which is disassembled during shipment and storage. The center section is joined together by a connecting plate which maintains a gap between the joined ends at a fixed, predetermined width for optimum sealing effectiveness of an interposed elastomeric seal. Owing to the manner of construction, the seal may be seated and then visually inspected for potential leakage before the center section is joined. Leakage at the interface of each end section seal with the center section seal is avoided during expansion or contraction of the center section seal by the center seal being suitably positioned to slide over the end seal during such movement. The tank is free from drag-producing obstructions as all joints are flush with the surface of the tank.

  • Patent number: 3977557
Abstract: A conventional, relatively soft plastic bottle having a generally cylindrical threaded container neck such as a common polyethylene bottle may be used with a specially formed closure and a fitment as a child resistant container. The closure includes internal ratchets adjacent to the bottom of the skirt which are adapted to coact with corresponding ratchets on the fitment so as to prevent the closure from being unthreaded from the container neck. The fitment engages the container and/or the container neck in such a manner as to lock the fitment against rotation. Preferably the fitment is formed so that it can be moved along the container neck to an operative position in which there is such engagement with the container and/or container neck as the closure is threaded on the container neck.

  • Patent number: 3940008
Abstract: A metal reusable barrel for storing and shipping fluids. The barrel is capable of being disassembled after initial use to minimize the space required for transporting the barrel back to the original shipper and also minimize the expense of reconditioning the barrel for reuse. The barrel comprises two barrel halves, each in the shape of a frustum with the larger end open and the smaller end sealingly closed by a circular plate. The open ends of the two barrel halves are sealingly clamped together to form a fully assembled, leak-proof barrel. When the barrel is empty it may be disassembled by detaching the two barrel halves from one another and nesting one inside the other for shipment back to the producer. In their disassembled condition the barrel halves can be easily cleaned and reconditioned because of the accessibility of their interior surfaces, after which they may be reassembled and reused.

  • Patent number: 3938687
Abstract: Two symmetrical, axially separable barrel halves of plastic material are provided at their confronting end faces with peripheral edge beads each forming a set of axially projecting teeth alternating with gaps of like width, the teeth of each half fitting into the gaps of the other. The free ends of the teeth are provided with radially extending bosses forming two annular crenelations separated by a substantially flat ring zone upon the interfitting of the teeth, this zone receiving a broad strap inserted between the two crenelations to hold the barrel halves together. The peripheral edge beads are further provided, radially inwardly of the teeth and gaps, with axially extending tenons and mortises or equivalent tongue-and-groove formations to provide a supplemental bracing effect. The inner strap surface may be correspondingly beveled to exert upon the free tooth ends an elastic biasing force urging the two barrel halves toward each other in the axial direction.
