  • Patent number: 4979636
Abstract: This invention relates to a housing assembly design which reduces the number of screws required to attach the housing parts together. According to the preferred embodiment of this invention, the housing of a hand-held computer is assembled and held together by a combination of hooks, screws, and tabs. Preferably, the tabs mate with slots or grooves formed on the perimeter of apertures such as input/output ports in the housing. Once the housing is assembled, each tab forms part of the perimeter of the aperture into which it is inserted. The hooks and screws mate with corresponding hooks and screw holes, respectively, formed in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4921122
Abstract: A slide bar locking arrangement for securing a lid to a cabinet to prevent unauthorized access. Hook members extending from the underside of the lid are received in and engage a plurality of corresponding apertures defined in a resiliently biased slide bar slidably mounted adjacent an inner wall of the cabinet, thereby securing the lid to the cabinet. During closing of the lid, the sides of the hook members contact the sides of the apertures causing the slide bar to move laterally until the hooks are secured in the apertures. A knob attached to the slide bar extends outside the cabinet and is operable to move the slide bar out of engagement with the hook members so that the lid may be opened. A lock mechanism is provided to secure the slide bar against movement so that the lid cannot be opened until the lock mechanism is unlocked.

  • Patent number: 4591068
Abstract: The invention comprises a core barrel plug capable of being remotely installed in a port of a core barrel of a pressurized water nuclear reactor for converting the reactor from a by-pass downflow configuration to a by-pass upflow configuration. The plug comprises a body having an expandable cylindrical portion with a movable mandrel disposed in the body. Remote fluid pressurization causes the mandrel to be advanced thus expanding the body into contact with the port. The plug also comprises a locking mechanism to prevent inadvertent release of the plug.

Abstract: On the reception part (2) there is arranged a cover (4) which is connected on the opposite side (6) of the container by combined snap closures (8) to the reception part (2). In order to be able to use the combined snap closure optionally as closures, respectively as hinge, each combined snap closure comprises a lock (14) prestressed in closed position by a spring (30) and overlapping by means of a lug (20) in the closed position a recess (24) wherein there is pivotingly arranged a joint pin (26). On the lug (20) there is provided an inclined surface (32) by means of which the lock bolt (14) may be disengaged from the closed position in order to engage the combined snap closure by means of the joint bolt (26). The lock bolt (14) is joined to the reception part (2) of the container and the joint bolt (26) to the cover (4).

  • Patent number: 4588104
Abstract: A closure device for closing an aperture in a panel includes a plate and plural retaining tabs extending from one face of the plate. The tabs have first and second lips which cooperate with the panel adjacent the aperture for centrally locating and locking the closure device in position. The plate also includes a cup-shaped central region which extends outwardly from the plate at least as far as the plural tabs to reduce the potential for any injury or damage from the tabs. A seal member is interposed between the closure device and panel for effectively sealing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4585141
Abstract: A locking system for a flood cover having a rigid mouth. The system has a pair of oppositely opposed locking mechanisms. Each leg mechanism includes a stiff leg portion whose length is greater than the air space that would result if the closure over which the cover is to be placed were centered in the cover. A spring holds the stiff leg essentially parallel to the mouth before the cover is placed over the closure. As the cover is placed over the closure the stiff leg pivots and the tension of the spring increases.

  • Patent number: 4560083
Abstract: A closure and method for closing an aperture in a panel includes a plate member having a planar inside face, a peripheral edge, and a plurality of retaining tabs which depend from the inside face. The plate member has a spaced recess formed in the inside face adjacent each retaining tab and extending inwardly from the peripheral edge. A sealing member or gasket comprised of an expansible elastomeric material is interposed between the inside face of the plate member and the edge of a panel aperture. The plate member is configured relative to the panel aperture and the gasket member such that the gasket member is effectively in a confined space. The confined space is preferably defined by a marginally depending edge on the plate and a depending center portion which is adapted to enter the panel aperture. When the elastomeric material is thereafter exposed to elevated temperatures, it expands to fill the confined space between the plate member and the panel.
