  • Patent number: 5460285
Abstract: A pressure relief venting lid for sealing an opening and providing pressure regulation of a container. The lid has a support plate attached by four angularly spaced spring assemblies to a port cover for sealing a filler opening in a manway cover for the container. The support plate overlies the port cover for fixedly supporting the spring assemblies and cover while protecting the springs and cover from impact or shock. The spring assemblies are disposed between the support plate and port cover for sealing the cover against the opening and allowing the cover to unseat from the opening to regulate the pressure within the container. The spring assemblies are offset equal distances from the center of the port cover to minimize bending moments that the cover may be subjected to. The generally circular port cover has a convex dished portion for strengthening the port cover to maintain the seal with the opening while under load.

  • Patent number: 5437387
Abstract: A container for transporting and storing vessels containing hazardous liquids and a method for making such a container. The container has a cylindrical housing and a cap that screws into the mouth of the housing and is locked by a latch. When the cap is screwed into place, an elastomeric sealing ring on the cap is compressed against the housing to provide a liquid-tight seal between the housing and cap. Interlocking hook-shaped members that project from the housing and from a central location of the latch act as a fulcrum on which the latch can be pivoted. Under the bias of a serpentine tongue, a locking member that projects from an end of the latch protrudes through a bore in the housing and is adapted to be received by a hole in the cap, thus locking the cap until the other end of the lever is depressed to disengage the locking member from the hole of the cap.

  • Patent number: 5394902
Abstract: In a fuel pump inlet chamber assembly having a communication passage which allows ejection of fuel from the fuel pump inlet chamber to the remaining part of the fuel tank only at a limited flow rate so that any short-term change in the fuel level due to the motion of the fuel inside the tank may not substantially affect the availability of fuel inside the fuel pump inlet chamber, the fuel pump is conveniently interposed in the interface between these two parts, thereby not only simplifying the assembling work but also allowing easy access to the fuel pump for servicing purpose. This takes advantage of the fact that the fuel pump inlet chamber is normally made of molded plastic material, and is required to be constructed from two pieces, i.e., the main body and the lid member. Thus, the fuel pump inlet chamber assembly can be made simple in structure and easy and economical to fabricate while allowing easy access to the fuel pump.

  • Patent number: 5361925
Abstract: A terminal box includes a base and a cover detachably securable to the base. The cover is provided with a stepped bore in each corner area thereof, with a spring-loaded locking bolt being insertable therein and slideable in axial direction in opposition to the spring action for securing the cover to the base. Each locking bolt has one end provided with a blade-like expansion which is created through flattening this respective end of the locking bolt. In the area facing the base, the cover is provided with radial slots which are in alignment with radial slots of the base and suitably dimensioned to receive the blade of the locking bolts. When placing the cover upon the base, each locking bolt is pressed down through the bore and radial slots in the base and turned to allow the blade of each locking bolt to bear upon an abutment of the base for securement of the cover to the base.

  • Patent number: 5346090
Abstract: The invention teaches apparatus suited for holding highly corrosive solvents heated under sealed conditions to temperatures up to 500.degree. C., for even extended durations. The apparatus is in the form of an open top vessel having a removable cover therefor, a seal cooperating between the vessel and cover, and clamping structures isolated radially beyond the seal from the vessel contents to hold the cover and vessel sealed together. The vessel and cover can be made structurally of chemically resistent material, such as a nickel alloy; or can be made as a separate chemically resistent liner, cover and seal structure contained within an outer pressure shell and cover, and clamping structures. The liner, cover, and seal would be formed of chemically resistent tantalum (Ta), platinum (Pt) or polytetrafluoroethylene. Gem-quality diamonds can be refined by using different related vessels exclusively to hold respective caustic, acid and rinse solvents, and moving the diamonds from vessel to vessel sequentially.

  • Patent number: 5346081
Abstract: A kettle includes a kettle body, a kettle cap screwed on the kettle body, a cover member covering the kettle cap, and a sucker inserted through a hole in the kettle cap. One end of the kettle cap includes a pivot support seat onto which a resilient member is connected. A pressing board is fit onto the cover member and is engaged with the resilient member. The other end of the pressing board is formed with an engaging hook section which fits into a depression formed in the kettle cap. The pressing board simultaneously presses and folds the sucker to close flow therethrough. A prying member is pivotally disposed in the kettle cap. The front edge of the prying member has a trigger section located under the engaging hook section, whereby by pressing the prying member, the trigger section is able to move and separate the hook section from an engaging recess to uplift the pressing board and cover member.

  • Patent number: 5342083
Abstract: A vehicle occupant restraint apparatus (10) includes an inflatable air bag (18) and a housing (16) in which the air bag (18) is stored in a folded condition. The housing (16) has a movable panel (82) with a slot (90). The apparatus further includes a door (104) with a tab (110). The door (104) has a closed position in which it blocks movement of the air bag (18) outward from the housing (16). When the door (104) is in the closed position, the tab (110) on the door (104) is received in the slot (90) in the movable panel (82). The tab (110) and the slot (90) thus establish a mechanical interlock which secures the door (104) in the closed position. When the air bag (18) is inflated, it moves against the movable panel (82) and moves the movable panel (82) relative to the door (104). The mechanical interlock between the door (104) and the housing (16) is then released by the inflating air bag (18). The door (104) is thus released for movement from the closed position by the inflating air bag (18).
