Abstract: A tamper-evident package includes a flexible lid sealed to a flange of a container. A localized region of the flange defines a break tab that can be broken to detach a small portion, such as a corner, of the flange from the rest of the flange, in order to begin peeling back the lid to open the package. The lid is affixed to the detachable portion of the flange in a manner effectively preventing the lid from being detached from it. At least that part of the lid overlying the break tab can be sufficiently transparent that the broken or unbroken condition of the break tab can be seen through the lid from an upper side thereof. The break tab thereby serves to indicate whether the lid has been at least partially peeled back.

Abstract: A closure system is provided for containers used for storing or administering substances in the form of liquids, pastes or powders, which includes a cap, provided with a through-hole, and a closure element, wherein the cap holds the closure element with a force fit and/or form fit on the container, in the area of the container opening that is to be closed, by a catch element present on the container. The end face which surrounds the container opening, and on which the closure element bears, comprises a depression. The closure element is a virus-proof, bacteria-proof and spore-proof film that lies on the end face and, at least in some areas, over the depression. The cap is then fitted in place, an elastomer ring or adhesive ring is arranged between the closure element and the depression and fills the depression.

Abstract: A closure for a food can including a foil end panel bonded to an intermediate ring which is fixed to the can body. The foil panel comprises a diaphragm having a centre panel which included at least one concentric bead. The profile of this beaded panel is selected so that its downward position is no greater than the lowest point of the intermediate ring. The provision of the bead(s) reduces pressure differences experienced by the diaphragm, particularly during processing of the can contents, due to the volume increase available from the beads.

Abstract: A condiment container whose form factor of the condiment container is selected to enable the condiment container to be carried and held in place by a standard drink holder. By configuring the condiment container to be received in a standard drink holder, the problems associated with incorporating a condiment container in a drink container lid are overcome.

Abstract: The present document describes a package for distributing and storing produce comprising: a container for holding produce, the container comprising a peripheral edge defining an opening into the container; a film for being positioned onto the peripheral edge of the container to close the opening; and an adhesive material for providing an airtight seal between the film and the peripheral edge upon being activated once the film has been positioned to cover the opening; and wherein upon being activated, the adhesive material populates both the peripheral edge and the film, the film thereby being repositionable onto the peripheral edge to reclose the opening of the container once the airtight seal has been broken upon initial opening of the package.

Abstract: A lid with a detachable sealing joint, the lid having a crown-type shell having an inner surface and an external surface, a sealing joint upon the inner surface of the shell; a detachable hydrophilic coating; and a coating compatible with the sealing joint upon the detachable hydrophilic coating; such that the detachable hydrophilic coating and the compatible coating form an adhesive interface between the crown and the sealing joint. The detachable hydrophilic coating having at least a water solid polymer, for example polyvinyl pyrrolidone; at least a cross-linking agent, for example, butanediol; and at least a solvent, for example, water. It also describes a method for manufacturing a lid with a detachable sealing joint and a method for bottling beverages using lids with a detachable sealing joint of the invention.

A number of gripping abutment elements (7) are embodied on the marginal web (5) while a joint zone (3) having a reduced flexural rigidity is configured between the marginal web (5) and the shielding section (4). The distance between the abutment elements (7) and the bottom side of the hot-melt adhesive, which faces the marginal web (5), is smaller than the thickness of the material of a basic part (13) in the area of the opening such that an initial tension is created in the joint zone (3) when the closure cap (1) is inserted into the opening, resulting in a simple self-acting closing process after heating the hot-melt adhesive (11).

Abstract: A resealable package integrity closure includes a film layer forming a top of a container and a flap defining an access opening. A sealing panel completely covers the flap of the film layer. A releasable adhesive is provided on either or both the film layer and the sealing panel for adhering the sealing panel to the film layer. The sealing panel is releasable from the film layer by pulling the sealing panel back in a peeling direction and reclosable against the top to seal the access opening when the sealing panel is moved back against the top. A coating of transferable material is provided on either the sealing panel or on the film layer, which is transferable therebetween to provide a visual indication that the closure has been previously opened.

The package may include a frangible portion in the flange region for gaining access to the contents of the package after it has been sealed without breaking the adhesive seal created by the double-sided adhesive. The carrier flange may include a channel for seating the double-sided adhesive and for denesting adjacent packages when nested together for shipping and/or storage. The package may include one or more display strips disposed in the flange region. The present invention also provides a method for packaging articles in a package with a tamper-evident seal, and a method for manufacturing a package with a tamper-evident seal.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a device for sealing a container, and serves to alleviate disadvantages commonly associated with use of plastic wrap, cling wrap, and similar products. The device generally comprises a flexible sheet and sometimes a perimeter support member connected to the flexible sheet. The flexible sheet is positioned over and seals the opening of the container. The perimeter support member is then removed from the flexible sheet so that the support member does not interfere with use of the container. The flexible sheet may be comprised of more than one material, permitting the flexible sheet to adhere to the container while being compatible with the contents of the container. The device may also comprise a mechanical sealing mechanism, as well as an internal support structure. The device may be folded for storage and other purposes. The invention also includes methods of using and manufacturing the device.

Abstract: This invention provides a process of sterilizing a medical device, and preferably the contents of a sealed container which comprises said medical device, comprising the step of exposing said medical device to monochromatic ultraviolet radiation whereby the Dvalue of Bacillus stearothermophilus (ATCC 7953) is at least 23.7 mJ/cm2 monochromatic ultraviolet radiation at 257 nm to the spore. Further, this invention provides a process of sterilizing a medical device comprising the step of subjecting said medical device to monochromatic ultraviolet radiation wherein the minimum total energy density of said monochromatic ultraviolet radiation at 257 nm which reaches the microorganisms present on said medical device is at least 284 mJ/cm2. This invention further provides an apparatus for delivering UV radiation to a medical device for sterilization comprising a laser and a scanner for the laser such that at least 284 mJ/cm2 at 257 nm is applied to a treatment area for said medical device.

Abstract: A cover assembly for allowing a drinking opening in beverage container assembly to be selectively covered. The beverage container assembly comprises a cup and a lid and the drinking opening is formed in an upper wall of the raised portion of the lid. The cover assembly comprises a substantially planar cover member and a substrate. The cover member comprises first and second layers and defines a cover portion, a surrounding cover portion, and a perimeter edge. The first layer is a structural layer having flexural characteristics that allow the cover member to be transported by engaging opposing portions of the perimeter edge of the cover member without substantially deforming the cover member. The second layer defines an adhesive surface adapted to detachably attach the cover member to the substrate and the lid.

Wet tissues are stored in a package, and the package is housed within a container. The package has an opening-closing portion formed by a laminated portion of a first sheet and a second sheet, and a proximal portion formed by a portion of the second sheet which protrudes from the first sheet. One side of the first sheet is removably bonded to the top of the body by a first adhesive. One side of the second sheet is bonded to the other side of the first sheet and also to the top of the body by a second adhesive. The package is housed within the container in the state in which the opening-closing portion of the lid is peeled off the top of the body, turned over and bonded to the back of the body by the first adhesive.

The container is opened by a person pulling up the lid flap, with the characters lifting out of their holes as they move up with the lid flap, and with the carrier that forms the character holes remaining on the base flap. When the lid is closed by pressing down the lid flap against the base flap, there will be some misalignment of the characters with the holes that they previously lay in, creating gaps that are readily noticeable.

Abstract: An apparatus for storage and liberation of compressed hydrogen or other gases is provided. The apparatus includes a housing defining a chamber that includes a cartridge comprising an array of hollow microcylinders defining cavities for storage compressed gas. Each microcylinder has at least one end sealed with a plug made of an easily meltable alloy. The apparatus also includes a gas liberating tool configured for controllable liberating the gas from the cartridge into the chamber; and a control system operatively coupled to the discharge valve and liberating tool, and configured for controlling operation thereof. According to another aspect of the invention, there are provided a system and method for filling a cartridge having an array of hollow microcylinders having open ends. The filling includes placing the cartridge into a chamber of an autoclave, and compressing the gas in the chamber, thereby providing permeation of the gas through the open ends into cavities of the microcylinders.
