  • Patent number: 5996850
Abstract: A package for dispensing a flowable substance is provided which includes a container, a closure and a cap. The container on a closed end is sufficiently rounded to render that end incapable of standing upright. A second end of the container has a round opening for dispensing the flowable substance. The closure is positioned across the second end and includes an oval top wall with opposite exterior and interior surfaces, a skirt surrounding the top wall and at least two separate apertures for fluidly communicating with the opening of the container. The cap is seatable over the closure and includes a roof with an inner surface and a flat outer surface, an apron surrounding the roof and a set of plugs projecting downwardly from the inner surface of the roof. The plugs are equivalent in number and shape to the apertures and seatable therewithin to prevent egress of flowable substance from the container.

Abstract: A method of converting on a single line printing press, two webs of material into individual rolls of ribbons of dual-layered, peelably-bonded-together lids. One layer of each lid has dispensing holes formed therein, or otherwise is cut through to form plugs, and the other layer of each label is printed with selected indicia and/or logos. The resultant product is wound in multiple layers of ribbons, or so-called, "daisy chains" of dual-layered lids around cardboard cores ready for shipment to processors of food particles, such as salt or cheese, to be secured as individual covers on cup-like containers.

  • Patent number: 5944235
Abstract: An improved plugging system for a liquid container (31) comprises an inner plug (3) and an outer plug (1), an opening/closing member 8, and pressure adjusting springs (9, 9') which apply elastic force to the opening/closing member (8) against the inner plug (3). A push button (131) is mounted in the center of the plugging system and has a rib (132) which is downwardly extended and coupled to the opening/closing member (8). In a closed state of the plugging system, a shoulder portion (135) of an opening/closing button (133) is caught by the rib (132). While in an opening state, as the opening closing button (133) is pushed outwardly, the rib (132) is pushed downwardly and a moving rail portion (134) slides on the rib (132) since the shoulder portion (135) is released from the rib (132) thereby opening the discharge path (4).

  • Patent number: 5944234
Abstract: A sealing and dispensing closure for the outlet opening of a package, such as a flexible plastic bottle containing a consumable beverage. The closure comprises a closure base which is threaded onto the outlet opening of the bottle, and a removable overcap which is pivotally connected to the closure base. The closure base includes a spout having a self-sealing dispensing valve therein which is movable from a lowered closed position to a raised open position by an increased pressure in the bottle resulting from the squeezing of the bottle. The valve is positioned at a recessed location within the spout so as to preclude access to the valve by the consumer when the valve is lifted to its raised open position, and the overcap includes a post which seats in the upper end of the spout when the overcap is mounted on the closure base, and so as to form a hermetically sealed chamber above the valve which prevents the valve from lifting to its raised position in the event the bottle is inadvertently squeezed.

  • Patent number: 5938086
Abstract: A dispensing system is provided for a container having an opening to the container interior. The dispensing system includes a closure with an elevator that is disposed within the container opening for movement between a fully elevated position and a fully lowered position while the elevator is restrained by the container from rotating. The elevator has a seat defining an inlet passage and has a thread. A rotatable housing is mounted on the container at the opening and has a thread engaged with the elevator thread. The housing has a dispensing passage and an occlusion member. The occlusion member sealingly engages the elevator seat and prevents flow through the elevator inlet passage when the elevator is in the fully elevated position. When the elevator is moved away from the fully elevated position by rotation of the housing, flow is permitted through the inlet passage and into the housing dispensing passage. A flexible dispensing valve is sealingly secured across the dispensing passage in the housing.
