Abstract: A splitting apparatus of an LCD panel and splitting method thereof are described. The LCD panel has a first substrate and a second substrate. The splitting apparatus includes a first splitting device and a second splitting device disposed correspondingly to the first splitting device, and the second splitting device includes protrusion adjustment devices. The protrusion adjustment device extrudes the second substrate for forming a protrusion corresponding to a split line to separate a split plate from the first substrate by a deformation portion of the protrusion and to remove the split plate by the first splitting device. The splitting apparatus makes a rapid separation of the split plate.

Abstract: In the method for cutting a continuously moving glass sheet with an inhomogeneous thickness distribution across the glass sheet, a cutting tool is moved across it at an angle to its travel direction to form a fissure and then the glass sheet is broken along the fissure. To avoid premature breakage in thin regions the applied cutting force is controlled by a controller based on control commands so that the cutting force is decreased when the glass sheet thickness decreases and is increased when it increases. In a preferred embodiment cutting force switchover points are based on an initial measurement of the thickness distribution. In another embodiment the thickness is continuously measured and the applied cutting force is automatically adjusted accordingly, so that the cutting force is greater when the thickness is greater, and vice versa.

Abstract: A thickness of material may be detached from a substrate along a cleave plane, utilizing a cleaving process controlled by a releasable constraint plate. In some embodiments this constraint plate may comprise a plate that can couple side forces (the “P-plate”) and a thin, softer compliant layer (the “S-layer”) situated between the P-plate and the substrate. In certain embodiments a porous surface within the releasable constraint plate and in contact to the substrate, allows the constraint plate to be secured to the substrate via a first pressure differential. Application of a combination of a second pressure differential within a pre-existing cleaved portion, and a linear force to a side of the releasable constraint plate bound to the substrate, generates loading that results in controlled cleaving along the cleave plane.

Abstract: A method for forming a crack which can precisely form a crack in a desired direction in substrates made of brittle materials even if the substrate of a large size is placed apart from a correct reference position on the scribe table. According to this method, a crack formation presumed line M is formed following the position separated from a beam travel line L, which is the track of the movement of the center of the beam spot B, by an offset amount O by moving a beam spot B relatively to a substrate G so that the beam travel line L can be in an oblique direction to a reference axis direction X set so as to be coincident with the substantial major axis direction of the beam spot B, and further a cooling spot C is relatively moved following the crack formation presumed line M, and thereby a vertical crack is formed following the crack formation presumed line M.

The method first includes the step of dispensing a length of covering material from a wound state on a roll. Next, the length of covering material is severed from roll to form a placard of the covering material having a dimension that corresponds to at least one dimension of the retail display support structure. Next, the placard is secured to retail display support structure to cover at least a portion of the retail display support structure. The placard may be secured to the retail display support structure by pushpins that push through the placard and into holes for supporting peg hooks or shelves.
