  • Patent number: 4982887
Abstract: A tag size differentiating system for tag printing machines. The system determines the length of tags in a continuous tag web consisting of a series of identical tags having one of a predetermined set of possible lengths. The system includes means for monitoring the distance the continuous tag web is advanced and sensing means for detecting indicia separating the individual tags. The system comprises a CPU and a memory for storing the possible tag lengths. The CPU determines the distance the tag web is advanced form the time and indicia is detected until the next indicia is detected and compares this distance to the possible tag length. Onthe basis of the comparison, the CPU determines the length of the individual tags in the tag web. The system does not begin the length determining process until the indicia at the trailing end of the initial tag is detected to prevent erroneous length measurements.

  • Patent number: 4958111
Abstract: A system including a self-contained electromechanical control mechanism and method of operation is provided for controlling the tension and lateral position of a web or tape as it is motor driven to pass over a series of rollers. This device comprises mechanical means in which two pairs of rollers are mounted in upper and lower positions on a metal frame, the upper rollers being disposed on a pivotted plate having cantilever projections to which piezoelectric load cells are attached. Changes in the tension of the web or tape is sensed by the load cells connected in a bridge circuit, which sends a signal to a microprocessor, the output of which controls the driving motor or a clutch to compensate for the change in tension. Simultaneously, the position of the tape is controlled by another device, whereby the edge of the tape or a line on the tape passes through additional sensing means. This sends another signal to the microprocessor which energizes a linear actuator to correct the misalignment of the tape.

  • Patent number: 4949104
Abstract: A justification system for use in a printer employing a continuous recording form. The justification system comprises a timing pulse signal generating system which generates timing pulses in synchronism with the traveling of sprocket holes of the continuous recording form. The timing pulses signals for commencing the printing on each printing segment defined on the continuous recording form and the timing for stopping the advancement of the continuous recording form are controlled based upon the above timing pulse signals. With this control, printing can be executed with a correct positional relationship with rules on each printing segment, even if the continuous recording form is set in the printer with a slight misalignment in the direction of the travel path of the continuous recording form or if the form itself has expanded or contracted in its longitudinal direction due to the effect of humidity.

  • Patent number: 4909431
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for preparing a bonding wire, such as gold wire, drawn in contact-free manner from a bonding wire spool mounted in rotary manner about its longitudinal axis and supplied to a bonding device for forming circuits on electronic components. The apparatus constructed as a subassembly essentially comprises an electromotively-driven bonding wire spool carrier arranged on a support plate and a removal station provided with an optronic sensor. The bonding wire is deflected by means of air flows (P' or Q') for forming a bonding wire reserve in the removal station and the wire position is scanned by the optronic sensor. In the case of a decreasing bonding wire reserve, a signal is produced as a function of the bonding wire position, which is processed in a signal evaluation unit and is transmitted to a control unit, by means of which an electromotive drive operatively connected with the spool carrier is operated.
