Sheet Material Patents (Class 228/173.6)
  • Patent number: 6405919
Abstract: In a process for the continuous production of longitudinally seam-welded and corrugated metal tubes (46), a metal band drawn off from a supply reel is formed into an open-seam tube, welded at its longitudinal edges, and the welded smooth tube (45) corrugated. A withdrawal apparatus driven by an electric motor engages the smooth tube. The smooth tube (45) is corrugated by means of a corrugation plate (43) located in a corrugation head (42) which can be driven rotationally. The corrugation head (42) is driven directly by a hollow shaft motor (37, 38).

  • Patent number: 6402009
Abstract: In apparatus and method for shaping a lead frame for a semiconductor device, there are provided a lower die having a concave shape for forming a step portion on the lower surface of the lead frame through a slope shape, an upper die having a convex shape which is downwardly moved to press a part of the lead frame in cooperation with the lower die and form a step portion through a slope shape on the upper surface of the lead frame, and a press portion which is disposed around the upper die and presses the outer portion of the lead frame at the outside from the semiconductor element mount portion, wherein the lower die is divided into an outside portion having an inside surface whose outlook is coincident with that of the inside surface of the press portion, and an inside portion located so as to be adjacent to and extend inwardly from the outer portion, and the outside portion and the inside portion are designed so as to be relatively movable in up-and-down direction.

Abstract: Fastening an attaching eye to the base of a dashpot by welding. The object is to simplify tooling and position the parts more accurately. The eye (3) is fabricated from strip, preferably by rolling or bending, prior to welding and is provided with an outward-tapering V-shaped abutment (4). The base (1) is provided with a transverse W-shaped groove comprising two rounded depressions (5 & 6), their depths and middle elevations (7) dimensioned to ensure that the eye will come into contact with the lateral edges (8 & 9) of the groove. The abutment is more or less in alignment with the groove's elevation.

Abstract: Selectively reinforced blanks are used in a hydroforming process to produce completed components having a predetermined shape and sufficient structural integrity to perform their desired function. To reinforce those components, reinforcing patches are added to the blank prior to hydroforming. Planar patches can be bonded to planar blanks or arcuate patches can be bonded to tubular blanks. In so doing, the hydroforming process produces a complete component, which does not require additional manufacturing steps to reinforce it. Additionally, by selectively using the reinforcing patches, the overall weight of the component is not unduly increased.

  • Patent number: 6386424
Abstract: Ultrasonic welding apparatus is used for making roof flashing units. The roof flashing unites typically include a generally flat aluminum plate and a cylindrical aluminum element joined to the generally flat plate. Two ultrasonic welders are used to make the roof flashing unit, including a horizontally disposed ultrasonic welder for the cylindrical element and a horizontally disposed ultrasonic welder for joining the cylindrical unit to the generally flat plate.

Abstract: An upper shearing blade 3 equipped with a protrusion 30 of a triangle-columnar shape and a lower shearing blade 4 equipped with a protrusion 40 of the same shape are applied onto the overlapped portion of metal plates 1 and 2 to be bonded, and then pressed into the metal plates 1 and 2 in an oblique direction inclined with respect to the thickness direction by a stroke in such a range that the metal plates 1 and 2 are not completely cut off. The operating loci of the upper shearing blade 3 and the lower shearing blade 4 are overlapped each other so that one falls inside the other, and the sheared surfaces of the metal plates 1 and 2 are formed into a bonded portion by plastic flow deformation. Therein, since a compressive force is applied onto the portions to be bonded, the portion being defined by the amount of overlap, and the portions are compressed to form a compressed portion after completion of bonding, the bonding strength enhances.
