Integral Locking-means Patents (Class 24/543)
  • Patent number: 6108875
Abstract: A lockable strap divider comprising a strap receiving portion having side walls and a transverse bar mounted at a central point between the side walls, and a clamping portion pivotally connected to the rear end of the strap receiving portion. There is a clamping device on the two portions for releasably locking the clamping portion over the strap receiving portion. Unlocking the clamping device from the strap receiving portion allows straps threaded through the transverse bar on the strap receiving portion to be adjusted. Locking the clamping portion over the strap receiving portion locks the straps in place. The locking and unlocking of the clamping portion can easily be done while the helmet is still on the wearer's head, so that adjustments can be made without removing the helmet. The adjustments can also usually be done with one hand.

Abstract: A one-piece plastic clip comprises a base plate and a cover plate with a living hinge inbetween. In pre-assembly the plates are held widely open by a temporary unitary strut. The bracelet strap is attached to the base plate by having apertures formed in the strap receive bushings in the base plate which are then flared outwardly to "rivet" the parts together. The struts are then sheared away, and the cover plate is freely hinged. In the final assembly the strap encircles the patient's wrist and the cover plate is brought down over the base plate, pointed projections on the cover plate piercing the free end of the strap and entering the bushings, and staggered ribs augmenting the gripping. The cover plate is then latched closed against the base plate.

Abstract: A snap-action fastener suitable for joining two or more members using automated or manual assembly techniques. The fastener includes a pair of legs spaced apart and having complementary ends, with each of the legs being formed so as to be resilient in bending. Flexibly attached to the complementary ends of the legs are first and second arms, respectively. The arms are attached to the legs so as to form first and second hinges, respectively. The arms can be attached to the complementary ends at a midpoint or an end of each arm. Furthermore, the arms are flexibly attached to each other so as to form a third hinge intermediate the first and second hinges. To generate the desired snap-action, the combined lengths of the arms between the complementary ends of the legs is greater than the distance between the complementary ends, such that the snap-action occurs during operation of the fastener between a release position and a fastening position.

  • Patent number: 5499431
Abstract: This invention pertains to spring clip garment holders for holding garments, especially small garments such as pairs of socks, while the garments are being processed. In the rest position, the clip generally has a "U-shaped" configuration, including a bight and a pair of legs extending from the bight. The legs have upper sections extending toward each other, and lower sections extending away from each other, and the legs reside in surfaces which preferably intersect at an angle of no more than about 20 degrees. At least one of the legs includes a lock, such as a lock slot, for locking the legs together. In use, the spring clip garment holder is compressed, creating an opening for receiving a garment, and providing clearance for one leg to pass the other, thereby crossing one leg over the other. The compression is released after the garment is inserted into the opening, with the legs still crossed.

Abstract: A frangible clip which gives way at a loading less than the limits of supporting structures is used in bulk to secure panels of porous cloth to supporting cables. The porous cloth is that used in agriculture for shade, wind, rain, hall, or snow protection of plants or animals. The clips are installed to form loops which slide along support cables and which pass through the structure of the cloth and around a preferred soft-sheathed hem cable which strengthens all edges of the cloth. A panel of porous cloth may be held stretched out by anchoring hem cables at a first corner, passed around anchored pulleys at each adjacent corner, and tensioning them onto an anchor at the far corner. The anchors may be attached to the support cables or to poles or ground structures. These improvements are useful in minimising storm damage.
