Internal Comminuting Surface Patents (Class 241/228)
  • Patent number: 11305293
Abstract: Apparatus and method for recycling asphalt millings containing bitumen and stone. A milling tube is provided having an outer tube and an inner tube axially aligned with and substantially contained within the outer tube, the inner tube having a diameter less that a diameter of the outer tube to thus define a mixing space between the inner and outer tubes. At least one of the inner and outer tubes is adapted to rotate relative to the other. An inlet is provided to the mixing space to receive the asphalt millings. A plurality of inner tube projections project radially outward from a surface of the inner tube toward the outer tube, and a plurality of outer tube projections project radially inward from a surface of the outer tube toward the inner tube. The milling tube facilitates the separation of the asphalt millings into bitumen and stone as one of the inner and outer tubes rotates relative to the other.

  • Patent number: 7171893
Abstract: A rotary press is supported on a frame allowing liquid and solid receivers to be placed underneath the rotary press. The rotary press has an outer ring and an inner drum. The inner drum has an upper and lower flange with a stripper ring retained between these flanges. The flanges form two sides of the cavity where the pressing takes place. The flanges carry the solids away from the pressing zone to a discharge zone where the stripper ring expels the solids. By transporting the solids away from the pressing zone where liquids are expelled, reabsorption of the liquid is avoided. The stripper ring can move relative to the two flanges and is biased against the outer ring by the inner ring. The stripper ring applies pressure to the material to be processed and also pushes solid material from between the upper and lower flanges to fall into a receiver for the solids.

  • Patent number: 6123278
Abstract: A grinding mill is provided. The mill uses a substantially two-dimensional system for producing gyratory motion in a dish for the purpose of rotating a puck within the dish. The system includes a spin-disk having a circular off-center cavity for holding a dish holder fixedly containing a dish. When the spin-disk is rotated, the dish holder orbits about a point other than its center point, but does not rotate about its center point because its movement is limited by a restrainer. A puck is disposed within the dish, possibly along with a ring, in a fashion that allows the puck, and the ring if present, to freely move within the dish. Thus, the dish holder orbits but does not rotate and the puck spins or bounces within the dish. The combination of these movements causes the puck to impact the dish in a way that crushes a sample within the dish. The mill may be constructed small enough to be used on a work bench. It can also be completely enclosed in a carrying case for efficient transport and storage.

  • Patent number: 5538191
Abstract: High-shear treated materials are passed through a high-shear treatment zone which allows the coexistence of free supra-Kolmogoroff eddies larger than the smallest possible Kolmogoroff eddy diameter and forced sub-Kolmogoroff eddies smaller than this diameter. This zone includes a subsidiary higher-shear zone for suppressing these free eddies. The passage walls (40, 44, 102, 108) move relative to one another transverse to the flow to force the simultaneous development of supra-Kolmogoroff and sub-Kolmogoroff eddies while maintaining liquid films adherent to the passage surfaces. The movement produces only forced sub-Kolmogoroff eddies in the subsidiary zone while maintaining a non-turbulent flow. Ultrasonic oscillations (52) may be applied to cause elastohydrodynamic pressure and viscosity increases and/or production of smaller sub-Kolmogoroff eddies.

A chain and sprocket arrangement gangs the adjustment means for opposite ends of each secondary roller to ensure that the rollers remain parallel when adjusted. Pressure springs urge the secondary rollers toward their adjusted positions, but allow movement away from the main roller when the spring pressure is overcome. A chain drive is employed which includes moveable idler sprockets arranged so as to maintain relatively constant chain tension when the roller positions are adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4527748
Abstract: The invention relates to a tubular mill for grinding natural and synthetic raw materials, in particular for the cement industry, comprising a horizontally-disposed rotary cylindrical drum, characterized by comprising one or more fixed grinding rollers disposed radially within the drum and supported by a fixed shaft which extends along the axis of rotation, each of said rollers being idle and able to rotate by friction within an annular guide rigid with the inner wall of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4448357
Abstract: An improved macerator adapted to shred crop material and having an annular perforated die ring and a roller operative within the die ring to extrude crop material through the perforations as the die ring and roller are power-rotated. The roller is journalled on a pivotable arm which is interconnected with the macerator frame by a shearable linkage permitting the roller to shift to an inoperative position if a material overload or a foreign object is encountered. A lock is automatically effective to positively retain the roller in the inoperative position until the condition can be corrected.

  • Patent number: 4444100
Abstract: An apparatus for crushing cans inserted into an opening in the housing thereof. The cans are crushed between a rotary drum and a roller rotatably mounted within the drum. A slide guide means directs the cans into the nip between the roller and drum. Crushed cans drop through an opening into a collecting bin.

  • Patent number: 4379526
Abstract: A drum is supported for rotation between two shafts having gears thereon engaging a ring gear around the outer periphery of the drum. A crushing and milling cylinder is journalled for rotation upon a vertically adjustable shaft extending freely through the entrance and exit apertures in the side plates of the drum and this shaft is supported within stationary bearings one upon each side of the drum. The sludge comprising finely crushed rock and water is discharged through the exit in one side wall and into a hopper where it is conveyed by a conveyor system over and through a bed of mercury which extracts the gold in the form of an amalgam. The sludge is then discharged from the other side of the mercury bed.

  • Patent number: 4265408
Abstract: A classifying and sorting machine for refuse particles, particularly household refuse and other refuse having a composition resembling household refuse, has a rotatable screen drum the diameter of which is within the range of 1:1-1:2 relative to its axial length. Baffles of sawtooth-shaped configuration are arranged in the drum rotating with the same and having inwardly directed ripping teeth. Annular baffles in the drum subdivide the drum into two or more axially adjacent compartments and each have an inner diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the drum, and an arrangement is provided for rotating the drum at an angular velocity which is smaller by between about 20-50% than the velocity at which the drum contents are pressed by centrifugal force against the circumferential drum wall.

  • Patent number: 4185786
Abstract: Apparatus carried on a self-propelled vehicle field processes alfalfa to obtain therefrom fiber and protein components and a deproteinized liquid component which is simultaneously applied on the field as the vehicle advances. A specially-designed macerator for shredding the harvested alfalfa is disclosed. The macerator includes a cylindrical die ring having an open end and a series of peripheral apertures through which the alfalfa is extruded by means of a pair of rollers mounted inside the die ring for rotation therewith. The die ring is rotatably supported in a frame, and the rollers are coupled to the die ring for rotation in synchronism. A shroud surrounds the periphery of the die ring to collect macerated alfalfa, and an impeller is mounted inside the shroud for displacing macerated alfalfa downwardly through an outlet in the bottom of the shroud.

  • Patent number: 4154407
Abstract: A device for extracting cellulosic and similar materials such as rags, plastics, light metals and wood, which includes a drum which is driven in a first direction at a first speed and a rotor inside of the drum which is driven in a direction opposite to the first direction at a speed higher than the first speed. A plurality of teeth are located on the periphery of the drum along a part of its length for shredding the material placed into the drum input. A fixed plate and a plate of adjustable height are placed at the output of the drum against which the other materials accumulate.
