  • Patent number: 10399081
Abstract: The present invention relates to a crushing roll for a roll-type crusher has a shaft with at least one groove extending in the axial direction on its lateral surface, to receive formed elements. The formed elements serve to retain the crushing shells, for which purpose the formed elements form a form-interlockingly engaging combination with the groove in the shaft, in the radial direction. A “form-interlockingly engaging combination in the radial direction” is understood here to signify means of blocking of movement of the formed elements in the radial direction of the shaft. In this way, it is possible to anchor the crushing shells in the grooves by means of the formed elements.

Abstract: A device for processing free-flowing input material, having a machine frame formed by longitudinal and transverse walls, in which a rolling mill having at least one pair of oppositely rotating rollers is disposed axially parallel next to one another so as to maintain a radial roller gap and are rotatably mounted in the transverse walls. The input material is processed upon passage through the roller gap. The region located upstream of the roller gap is used to feed the input material, and the downstream region is used to discharge the material. In order to minimize the disruptions caused by wear and thermal load, it is provided that the upstream region for feeding comprises a feed chute having longitudinal chute walls and end chute walls, the end chute walls each disposed with axial separation between the transverse walls of the machine frame in order to form an open space.

A typical application would be to process a plant to leave only trimmed buds and flowers for use in potpourri, fragrant sashes, or as a prelude to further processing of essential oils. The invention enables faster and safer production of plant material than prior plant processing machines. The apparatus employs an original combination of a slotted metal drum and a lawn mower type cutting reel that are rotated in the same direction, but at different speeds, to create a cutting interface that shears the unwanted plant material off and then collect this debris though a novel vacuum manifold into a waste collection device. The cutting interface between the slotted drum and the cutting reel is adjustable to keep the distance between the two between 0.002 and 0.006 inches for a very sharp and clean cut.

Abstract: The present invention regulates the delivery of feedstock to the fragmentation zone in a gravity-fed comminuting machine and reduces the ejection of feed materials by means of a rotating cylinder located at an offset position above the rotor. Rotationally mounted on an axis parallel to and above, but offset from, the axis of the rotor, this cylinder serves primarily as a striking surface, or anvil. The continual rotation of the anvil, in the opposite rotational direction as the rotor and with much slower rotational speed, assists in agitating the feed material, alleviating the problems of feed chute obstructions and feed aggregation. The cylinder forces the feed materials into contact with the rotor teeth through continuous rotation and provides a novel tooth design to improve efficacy and reduce wear.

Abstract: A substrate destruction apparatus for destruction of paper and optical discs, wherein first and second shafts are used for shredding paper fed through a paper receiving opening and second shaft is shared such that the second shaft and a stationary structure are used to damage optical discs. First and second shafts are provided with a plurality of cutter elements that interleave with when rotated relative to each other during use in a paper mode. When the apparatus is operated in a disc destruction mode, the shared second shaft is rotated in an opposite direction than the paper shredding direction and interleaves with the stationary structure to at least damage an optical disc fed through the disc receiving opening. Cutting elements on the second shaft have radial projections and protrusions for damaging at least the surface of the disc with a plurality of scratches, depressions, or cuts, rendering the disc unreadable.

Abstract: A rolling mill system has oppositely driven, temperature-controlled first and second rolls, each having a first roll half with a first end face, a second roll half with a second end face, and a roll center. The first roll has a peripheral surface with open grooves arranged on the first and second roll halves and with ribs between the grooves. The grooves of the roll halves are arranged opposed to one another at an obtuse angle and symmetrically to the roll center. The width of the ribs is smaller than the width of the grooves. The grooves extend continuously between the end faces. The second roll has a smooth peripheral surface. First and second cutting devices are arranged at the first and second end faces of the first roll, respectively. The cutting devices are arranged near open ends of the grooves.

  • Patent number: 6588689
Abstract: An apparatus 10 for crushing materials such as rock, ore, coal, stone and the like includes two rolls 16A and 16B which are mounted in parallel to define a gap 18 therebetween. Chunks of material to be crushed are fed by a conveyor 12 into the nip 14 between the rolls. Each roll 16A and 16B is similar and includes longitudinally extending steps provided by outwardly extending faces and smoothly curved surface segments between the steps. When the rolls are counter-rotated at the same speed, the gap 18 is maintained substantially constant and effectively transversely reciprocates in location between limits defined by the outer extremity of the face of a step on one roll being located opposite the inner extremity of the face of a step on the opposite roll. Compared to smooth roll crushing the invention provides for greater reduction ratios to be achieved at slower rotational speeds and using smaller diameter rolls.

Abstract: An apparatus for and method of recycling the edge portion of a chopped strand mat are disclosed. The method includes the steps of trimming an edge portion of the chopped strand mat, transporting the edge portion to a shredder assembly, and shredding the edge portion into individual strands or filaments. The separated strands are introduced with new chopped strands into the chopped strand mat forming process. The apparatus for recycling the edge portion of the mat includes a shredder assembly for separating the edge portion into individual strands. The shredder assembly includes two pairs of rollers that engage the trimmed edge portion. The first and second pairs of rollers are driven at first and second rotational speeds, respectively. Preferably, the second speed is greater than the first speed. The mat is pinched between each pair of rollers and is thereby placed under tension due to the different rotational speeds.

Abstract: A single drive motor is connected by a speed reducer directly to the shaft of one roll of the two aggressive surfaced rolls which form a chip destructuring nip. One roll is dynamically positionable perpendicular to its axis of rotation to open and close the nip. Each roll turns on a shaft positioned along the axis of the roll which is mounted to a frame by bearings. Only the non-positionable roll is driven directly by the drive motor. The roll which is dynamically positionable is driven by a tire arrangement mounted about the axes of the rolls. Opposed tires mounted on the spaced apart parallel shafts form a clutch-like means for driving the dynamically positionable roll.
