  • Patent number: 9522400
Abstract: A drive system for a ball mill includes a motor with a slip-ring rotor. The motor is assigned a family of characteristics relating the torque of the motor to a further characteristic variable. The family of characteristics has at least two different characteristics, and it includes a switching element that switches over the drive system abruptly between the two characteristics when there is a constant value of the characteristic variable. In a method for operating a ball mill with a drive system, a drum of the ball mill is moved out of a state of rest when the first characteristic is activated. In the event of caking in the drum of the ball mill, the drum is moved until the caking is in an inclined position. Actuation of the switching element brings about switching over to the second characteristic.

  • Patent number: 9468933
Abstract: A document shredder with a motor, a cutting unit, and a motor control, wherein the motor control may start, stop and reverse the motor. The motor control may limit the maximally allowed load of the motor to a predetermined load limit value. In case the motor reaches the maximally allowed load limit value, the load limit value may be increased for a predetermined time, either manually or automatically. In this way a short overload does not lead to a paper jam and the shredder does not have to be reversed, which may cause a paper mess in the workplace. The motor may be a direct current motor and/or a series motor, so that the load limit value may be defined by a maximally allowable motor current.

Abstract: Composite silicon based materials are described that are effective active materials for lithium ion batteries. The composite materials comprise processed, e.g., high energy mechanically milled, silicon suboxide and graphitic carbon in which at least a portion of the graphitic carbon is exfoliated into graphene sheets. The composite materials have a relatively large surface area, a high specific capacity against lithium, and good cycling with lithium metal oxide cathode materials. The composite materials can be effectively formed with a two step high energy mechanical milling process. In the first milling process, silicon suboxide can be milled to form processed silicon suboxide, which may or may not exhibit crystalline silicon x-ray diffraction. In the second milling step, the processed silicon suboxide is milled with graphitic carbon. Composite materials with a high specific capacity and good cycling can be obtained in particular with balancing of the processing conditions.
