Abstract: A method for winding a paper web in which the paper web is unwound from a paper reel and passed through a slitting station of a slitter-winder in which it is slit longitudinally into component webs by blades, and the component webs are further wound into component rolls. A portion of the ends of the slit component webs are cut off in a cutter device to provide them with predetermined measures, i.e., a predetermined initial length, before the component webs are passed into the winding stations. The winding device in winding of a paper web includes an unwind station and a slitter-winder which includes a slitting station, a cutter device, and the winding stations for component rolls. The cutter device of the slitter-winder includes an arrangement for cutting the component webs to provide the predetermined lengths therefor.

  • Patent number: 5620151
Abstract: Automatic slitter rewinder machine which includes a plurality of pairs of core-holding frames for releasably mounting a core therebetween and for winding up on the cores slit narrow web sheets to full rolls and automatic delivery apparatus for cooperating with the pairs of core-holding frames after winding-up to conduct a series of automatic roll changing steps for the next winding. The pairs of core-holding frames are suspended to be slidably movable. The automatic delivery apparatus is disposed below the pairs of core-holding frames and has a roll delivery carriage including a wrapping device for cut trailing ends of unloaded full rolls, a carriage for transferring the full rolls outside the machine, a conveyor for carrying and discharging the rolls, and a lifter for the conveyor, the wrapping device having swing rollers capable of moving toward and away from each other so as to conduct the wrapping and to carry the full rolls onto the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 5495736
Abstract: In descaling and cold rolling of metal strip, there are performed the steps of joining strips longitudinally together, passing the joined strip continuously through a descaler, subdividing the descaled strip into long strip lengths and coiling the long strip lengths into large coils at a first coiling station having a plurality of coiling drums, feeding the large coils from said coiling station to a cold rolling mill and rolling each of them in the mill. The cold rolling mill is a reversing multi-pass cold rolling mill in which the strip is rolled in a plurality of passes with reversal. To achieve efficient use of the capacity of the reversing mill while reducing the size of the descaler, coiling and uncoiling of two said large coils respectively take place simultaneously at the first coiling station, and each long strip length is coiled a first time on one of the coiling drums at the coiling station on exit from said descaler and at least a second time on the same coiling drum during its rolling in the mill.

  • Patent number: 5405099
Abstract: An apparatus for subdividing a flexible web into at least two strips and winding same up into individual rolls has a supply roll on which the flexible web is wound, at least one takeup roll on which the web is also wound, and a drive for rotating the takeup roll and thereby pulling the web from the supply roll. The supply roll is braked to tension the web. Between the supply and takeup rolls the web is longitudinally slit into at least two individual strips. A pair of pinch rolls between the slitting means and the takeup roll engage the individual strips without slip a drive or brake rotates the pinch rollers at a speed such that the tension in the web upstream of the pinch rollers is substantially greater than the tension downstream of the pinch rollers.

  • Patent number: 5377931
Abstract: A drive arrangement for apparatus for reeling a traveling web into a reel includes a pair of spaced, parallel guides for supporting a tube on which the web is to be wound. The guides are mounted on pivotable arms and the tubes are rotatably supported in a carriage at either end, which carriages are adapted to traverse the guides as the diameter of the wound web reel grows. A looped, motor-driven belt is disposed over a drive wheel on the carriage to provide torque to the tube continuously from when the tube is initially nipped with a backing roll to when the wound web reel is finished. The carriages are moved along the guides by a motor driven traction mechanism, such as a looped chain which is attached to the carriages.

  • Patent number: 5372330
Abstract: A tape loading apparatus and method comprising a supply conveyor for automatically transporting empty cassettes from a reel magazine to a plurality of independently operating loading modules wherein each module comprises at least one support hub for rotatably supporting at least one reel of use tape and a loading station designed to engage individual cassettes. Pancakes are mounted on the support hub of each module by a manipulating unit which automatically removes the out of tape pancakes from the single hubs and replaces them with new pancakes which fill individual cassettes with a predetermined amount of use tape. The manipulating unit guides the tape through a predetermined path using search and setup devices which find and thread the end of the use tape.
