Inclined Staff Patents (Class 248/538)
  • Patent number: 4438582
Abstract: A downrigger fishing system is disclosed which includes a pair of coacting mounting arrangements. This system includes a frame assembly which rotatably supports a downrigger line reel, and a downrigger arm attached to the frame assembly for guiding the downrigger line. Not only may the downrigger system be mounted in a conventional fashion to a suitable downrigger mounting plate, but the system further includes an additional mounting arrangement so that the assembly may be readily and releasably secured to the oarlock of a rowboat or similar small craft. In this way, the downrigger system may be conveniently used for trolling in relatively shallow water or other places where relatively small craft are best suited.

  • Patent number: 4425729
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a construction of a rod holder fixing means comprising a rod holder and a cylinder detachably pivoted thereon, wherein a spacer is suspended on a side of the cylinder, and adapted to be adjustably pressed against the inside of a rod hole by screwably moving a bolt through the cylinder so that the means is slidably insertible into any rod hole regardless of the diameter, position and inclination thereof with respect to the gunnel surface of a fishing boat and fixedly mountable on or above the gunnel regardless of the width and shape thereof.

  • Patent number: 4343842
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a new and improved pole-branch holder sub-assembly for use in the construction of artificial Christmas trees. Specifically, the new pole-branch holder comprises an elongated cylindrical tubular member having selectively rotatable branch holder elements assembled therewith at predetermined elevations. The branch holders themselves are advantageously formed of high impact injection molded plastic and comprise sleeves, adapted to telescope the pole in close fitting relation thereto, having a plurality of integral uniformly spaced bosses with vertical bores therein, each of which bores are associated with cantilevered support channels extending radially outwardly from the bosses. The new pole branch holder sub-assembly enables an artificial Christmas tree to be assembled rapidly by user merely by dropping the pre-formed bent ends of conventional twisted wire branches into the well-defined, multi-axis support established by the combination of the vertical bore and intersecting channel.

  • Patent number: 4315612
Abstract: A fishing rod extender adjustably holds a fishing rod on the side of a fishing boat. The fishing rod is retained in either an extended position during fishing or withdrawn in a retracted position closer to the boat when adjusting the reel, etc. The extending and retracting motion is undertaken by using a parallelogram frame or linkage pivotally attached at each of its four corners, having a base frame member or link rigidly mounted at an angle to the deck of a boat, and having the top frame or link member, parallel to the base, to move transversely in and out as the two interconnecting parallel frames or links rotate. A cylindrical collar attached to the top link near its outboard end receives the handle of the fishing rod.

  • Patent number: 4245419
Abstract: A quick-release fishing pole holder has a base member for maintaining two axially rotatable members in opposed relationship. The rotatable members have cooperating front end portions and rear end portions extending upwardly from the base member. The front end portions also extend inwardly to cross each other under the fishing pole and to engage the fishing pole. The rear end portions also extend upwardly and inwardly to substantially encircle a perimeter of the fishing pole. A fish strike causes the fishing pole handle to pivot on the front cooperating end portions, but to be restrained from rotation by the encircling rear end portions. A fisherman grabs the handle and pulls upwardly to control the pole. The front cooperating end portions do not then engage the fishing rod and the opposed members can rotate as the fishing pole handle is pulled upwardly against the rear cooperating end portions.

  • Patent number: 4235409
Abstract: A fishing rod holder which may be easily clamped to a typical wooden dock having slots between the boards making up the dock. The holder has an anchoring means which is easily inserted through the slots and then turned to underlie the boards adjoining the slots. The anchor is then tightened to grasp the wooden boards securely between the base and the anchor. There is also provided as part of the holder a tubular socket sitting on a post attached to the base for receiving a fishing pole handle. To insure that the holder will not turn, holes are provided in which a peg may be inserted providing positive alignment of the holder in various directions.

  • Patent number: 4124190
Abstract: A fishing rod holder is provided which can be used to support a fishing rod for fishing from the shore of a lake or stream, by pushing the same into the ground sufficiently for it to remain upright. The basic holder comprises a round metal rod pointed at its lower end, and threaded for approximately a third of its length. At the upper end the rod is bent into an outwardly and downwardly curved portion forming a cradle to support the end of the handle of a fish pole. The rod is then bent to extend outwardly and terminates in another downwardly and upwardly curved portion forming a cradle in which the other end of the handle may rest. The lower portion of the rod is provided with means for supporting the same on a dock, on the gunwale or the transom of a boat, in the oarlock or in the ground adjacent the shore of a lake or stream.

  • Patent number: 4093170
Abstract: An upstanding panel member is provided having an opening formed therethrough in an upper portion thereof for snugly, but slidingly receiving the rear end portion of a cylindrical grease gun body therethrough. An elongated lever is hingedly supported, intermediate its opposite ends, from one side of the panel member for oscillation about an axis extending transversely of the lever, spaced outwardly of the opening and disposed generally normal to a line extending between the axis and the center of the opening. One end portion of the lever extends toward and projects slightly into the adjacent portion of the opening when that end portion of the lever is disposed at least generally normal to the center line of the opening and the other end of the lever is spaced outward from the panel member and swingable theretoward in order to swing the first mentioned end portion of the lever away from the panel member and to thus retract the free terminal end thereof away from the opening.

  • Patent number: 3977637
Abstract: A holder device is provided for supporting a utility implement such as a fishing rod and a lantern, comprising a base member adapted to be mounted on a side of a boat and the like, having an elongated socket formed therein, a removable coupling member for removably carrying the fishing rod or lantern including an arm element having a cam portion formed adjacent an outer end thereof which is slideably engaged in said elongated socket, and a resilient biasing means carried by the base member providing a biasing force against a surface of the arm element cooperating with the cam portion so as to hold the arm element in the elongated socket. Thus, the coupling member is effectively prevented from being removed from the base member unless the coupling member and its associated implement is tilted angularly backwards and simultaneously pulled outwardly from the base member to overcome the resilient biasing means and release the cam portion from the socket.

  • Patent number: 3964706
Abstract: A holder assembly for a fishing rod or the like, including a number of readily replaceable elements adapted to hold any standard fishing rod during actual fishing, as in trolling, and safely store the rod while cruising to and from the fishing grounds, the assembly comprising a mounting base with keyhole connecting means for quickly attaching to or detaching from a supporting surface, a tubular socket on the base, an elongated sleeve for slidably receiving and holding a fishing rod handle, and means for readily securing and detaching the sleeve to and from said socket. The substitution of another sleeve having a portion with a larger diameter enables the holding of larger and heavier fishing rods. The substitution of another mounting base having a different angular arrangement of the tubular socket renders the holder assembly readily mountable on vertical, horizontal or angled supporting surfaces of a boat and permits the changing of the angular position of the held fishing rod.

  • Patent number: 3956846
Abstract: A rod holder construction comprising a U-shaped support formed by bending a steel rod to form a web and eyes at the junctures of the web with legs that have free ground penetrating ends, together with a U-shaped holder formed by bending a steel rod to form a cradle-like web that joins a pair of parallel legs that slidably extend through the eyes of the support. The free end portions of the holder legs are divergent to oppose removal of the legs. The construction is collapsible to parallelly superpose the holder on the support, and can be extended for use with the holder inclined upwardly from the support so that a rod can rest on the cradle-like web and bear upwardly against the underside of the support web.
