Abstract: The invention relates to seals on equipment used to make concrete pipe. Such equipment includes two generally vertical cylindrical surfaces, a core and a mold, with upper and lower end forming rings. The lower end forming ring, a pallet, has inner and outer vertical surfaces. Seals of the present invention are formed by using two hollow tubes of soft rubber. The tubes are housed in lower portions of the core and the mold so that they are in alignment with the inner and outer surfaces of the pallet. The tubes are pressurized into tight engagement with the pallet to prevent the outward flow of slurry from the space between the core and the mold.

Abstract: Injection molding methods and apparatus for the production of casting molds for toric lenses having ballast oriented properly with respect to the cylinder axis of the toric surfaces. A calibrated rotatable ring mechanism is used within the injection molding body, for producing a slot or other alignment means on the lens casting mold at a point which is offset a predetermined number of degrees from the axis of the toric surfaces being formed in the casting mold. When the casting mold containing a newly cast lens is mounted on a precision lathe, the mating of the slot with a permanent ridge on the lathe spud ensures that the mold seats on the lathe at the same established place each time with respect to the position of the cutting tool. The offset between the toric axis and the position of the cutting tool has already been established, and therefore there is no need for the lathe operator to make any measurements or resetting of the cutting tool.

The mask has a central body with a set of openings extending therethrough which allow passage of the flowable material through to the selected cells and a second set of protrusions extending from one of the surfaces of the mask which are used to align the mask to the end face of the structure and which extend into and sealably cover the cells which are not to receive the flowable material. The mask may be formed from a polymer, preferably an elastomer, using any of three disclosed die apparatuses.

  • Patent number: 4693861
Abstract: A mold and process for integrally forming a modular helical shaped device such as a screw conveyor is disclosed. The mold has a center operating axis (26) and includes a first section (20A) which forms a portion of the axial member (33). The first section (20A) also forms one of the helical surfaces (36A) disposed around the center axis (26) which has an amount of rotation no greater than 360 degrees. In a similar manner, a second section (20B) is adapted for reciprocating movement along the center axis (26) between an open and closed position with respect to section (20A). The second section (20B) forms the other one of the helical shaped flight members (41). Thus, the two mold sections define a substantially enclosed cavity having an elongated axial portion and a helical shaped flight portion with a selected cross-section that forms the helical shaped device.

  • Patent number: 4684101
Abstract: An injection molding mold including an insert in-part defining the mold cavity and readily accessible for replacement from the side of the mold. The insert has a molding head at the mold cavity, a shank extending into a socket in the mold, a mortice in the shank for receiving a retainer to hold the insert in place and, preferably, a camming surface on the end of the shank for dislodging the insert from the mold. The retainer will preferably be a sliding pin having a bifurcated keeper portion providing two tapered prongs engaging opposed slots on the insert's shank for holding the insert in place during molding and subsequently for camming the insert loose from the socket at replacement time.

  • Patent number: 4676732
Abstract: A bucket-shaped container having a rim opening smaller than the diameter of the side wall thereof is injected molded from thermoplastic material using a die set including a molding core which collapses to allow axial removal of the molded container from the mold. The molding core comprises a plurality of individual, wedge-shaped outer core sections which collectively form a continuous molding surface and are slideably mounted on a tapered inner core to allow axial sliding movement of the outer core section relative to the inner core. The sliding movement of the outer core sections on the inner core is provided by a plurality of keylocks which are fixedly secured in corresponding axial keyways in the inner core and which slideably engage corresponding axial keyways in the outer core sections.

  • Patent number: 4673158
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a plastic pilfer-proof cap that comprises a ring, a plurality of inwardly directed hooks joined to one edge of the ring by hinge portions, and a weakened region is integrally molded with a main closure portion comprising a closed end and a skirt extending from the closed end and having an edge to which the pilfer-proof is attached during the molding. The hooks define sectors of a generally frusto-conical shell and extend inwardly and upwardly toward the closed end from the remote end of the ring. The hooks are released from the mold by rotating a mold portion that forms the respective hidden surfaces of the hooks and by pivoting the hooks radially outwardly toward the respective parts of the inner surface of the ring with respect to which the hidden surfaces are juxtaposed.

  • Patent number: 4618121
Abstract: A mold for forming a plastic cap and removing a cap from such a mold. The mold comprises female and male members which, together, form a mold cavity in which the cap is formed. The female member includes an upper assembly and a plurality of cams. The cams have radial protrusions engaging the male member to form annular recesses in the cap. The cap is removed from the mold by moving the upper assembly of the female member axially and the cams thereof radially away from the cap, and then removing the cap itself from the male member of the mold. Preferably the cap is shrunk onto the male member to develop a space between the cap and the female member of the mold prior to moving the female member away from the cap.

  • Patent number: 4588544
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for producing concrete articles, such as shaft rings, with projecting elements such as climbing irons or stirrups, by means of an automatic inserting mechanism which removes the climbing irons from a magazine and automatically inserts them into a mold core. These climbing elements are guided automatically to a core segment and are brought into housings therein during a time interval between the ejection of a completed concrete article from the mold cavity in a first working cycle and the next following work cycle in timed overlap with carried out work steps during this time interval. This automatic process takes place while the operator withdraws and takes away a completed article from the machine at the end of a work cycle and prepares the machine for the next work cycle. This leads to equally short machine cycle times for completion of concrete articles with or without climbing elements.
