  • Patent number: 6095192
Abstract: A spool valve is provided with a stem portion that defines a fluid passageway formed by either (a) a single central support having a non-cylindrical curved surface shaped hydrodynamically, or (b) only a pair of sidewalls with, preferably, interior surfaces that are also shaped hydrodynamically. These stem passageways, which are designed to facilitate the flow of high-speed/high-pressure fluids controlled by the valve, are maintained in a predetermined orientation relative to the ports of the valve cylinders by a mechanism preferably including (a) a cam-following roller supported in a tang fixed to each spool and (b) a two-element cam that captures the roller within two of the parallel sides of a cam-track groove formed on the respective interior surfaces of each cam element.

  • Patent number: 6053472
Abstract: A rotary solenoid operated valve assembly having the rotary journalled in a ball race in one end of a tubular pole piece extending through a coil. The tubular pole piece has the end distal the ball race received in the bottom of a cup-shaped stator which has salient poles on the open rim and which define radial air gaps with poles formed on the rotor. A cam formed on the rotor moves a ball valve member in a direction transverse to the rotor axis for controlling flow over a valve seat provided in an inlet or outlet port. The rotor is balanced about its axis of rotation to prevent cam movement when the valve is subjected to vibration in a direction transverse to the rotor axis.

A pair of parallel air paths are established in the device, with one air path having the PTC elements fixedly located therein. A laterally movable damper is used to control airflow through the two air paths, and is positioned proximate the PTC elements a fixed distance therefrom so that as the damper is shifted, airflow proportionally increases through one of the air paths and proportionally decreases through the other air path to control the heat output of the PTC elements. The energization of the PTC elements and blower is controlled by a switch activated by movement of the damper.

  • Patent number: 5168896
Abstract: A valve operating mechanism produces a rotating force for causing a valve body of the valve to shift relative to a valve seat thereof, so that the valve is opened and closed. A piston of the mechanism produces a rectilinear reciprocating force. A screw member is supported moveably along the rectilinear line and unrotatably in the housing and includes a pair of pawls helically projecting along the rectilinear line and a helical interval space defined between the helical pawls. A pivot is inserted into the helical interval space. A cylindrical rotating member is supported rotatably and unmoveably along the rectilinear line in the housing so as to surround the screw member. When the screw member receives the rectilinear reciprocating force to perform the reciprocating motion along the rectilinear line, the pivot is urged to rotate along the helical interval space in the rectilinearly unmoved state, and the cylindrical rotating member can rotate with the pivot.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for sealing around shafts or tubes of varying diameter. Its basic element comprises an elastomeric sealing body with an axial passage which is radially compressed from more than two sides to compress the passage into sealing engagement with a member extending through the passage. Radial compression is achieved by cams and followers disposed around the body which cooperate with angularly spaced radially extending lugs formed integrally with the body. The cams are spring biased to normally compress the axial passage of the sealing body. Levers operable by one hand of the user are provided to selectively release the apparatus.

Abstract: Provided is a damper for controlling air flow through an air duct. The damper includes a mounting fame secured to the interior of the duct which has a circular opening for air flow therethrough when the damper is open. A circular damper plate is provided which is dimensioned to block the circular opening in the closed position while in the fully open position the plate is rotated approximately 90 degrees where it is parallel to the flow direction through the duct. The movement of the damper plate is controlled by an actuator mechanism having a pair of spaced guide plates each of which is provided with two diverging arcuate guide slots. Corresponding guide slots in the two plates are aligned at the same vertical height. A movable support bracket is disposed between the two plates and supports two guide pins which extend horizontally through the aligned slots.
