  • Publication number: 20140183400
Abstract: Disclosed is a fire extinguishing composition of copper salts, which comprises a compound of copper salts and a fire retardant component with the content of 30 wt %--95 wt % for the former and 5 wt %-70 wt % for the latter respectively. A pyrotechnic agent in the composition serves as heat source and power source, and through being ignited, the pyrotechnic agent is burnt to generate high temperature to enable the composition to perform decomposition reaction so that a large quantity of the resulting fire extinguishing substances can be spouted out with the pyrotechnic agent to achieve an object of fire extinguishing. The fire extinguishing composition of copper salts can decrease the quantity of heat released by combustion of the pyrotechnic agent rapidly and efficiently, thus greatly reducing the nozzle temperature of a fire extinguishing apparatus and a sprayed substance, avoiding use of a complicated cooling system of the fire extinguishing apparatus, and also eliminating the danger of a secondary fire.

  • Patent number: 5423384
Abstract: An apparatus for suppressing a fire comprises a gas generator containing a propellant and a fire suppressant as a mixture of compacted powders. The average diameter of a fire suppressant particle is larger than the average diameter of a propellant particle and the larger fire suppressant particles form discrete cooling sites that do not dramatically reduce the propellant burn rate.

  • Patent number: 5062996
Abstract: Flammable liquids are soaked up and rendered safe from ignition by mixing with the liquid a particulate composition containing an absorbent solid, a first high molecular weight polymer soluble in the flammable liquid, a dry chemical fire extinguishing agent and, optionally, a second polymer which is not soluble in the flammable liquid but is soluble in water. The first polymer gels the flammable liquid and the solution of polymer and liquid serves to adhesively bind particles of absorbent solid together while the second polymer when wet with water forms a non-combustible film over all exposed surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5061382
Abstract: A fire control composition which is in particulate form, which is anhydrous, and which is particularly effective for fighting Class D fires, such as metal fires. The composition includes particles of crushed glass bearing a hydrophobic coating thereon so that agglomeration of the fire control composition due to adsorption of moisture during storage and use is substantially prevented and so that when applied to fire, the fire control composition forms a blanket over the fire which deprives the fire of oxygen and thereby smothers it. The composition may additionally contain at least one additional material, such as salts, spherulized vitreous beads, or graphite which at least one additional material also bears a hydrophobic coating. The median grain size of the crushed glass is preferably below 200 micrometers, most preferably below 120 micrometers, for example, in the range of from 25 to 35 micrometers.
