  • Patent number: 6436325
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cellulose based fiber of high water-retentivity. The cellulose based fiber of high water rententivity is manufactured by mixing together a stock solution as a homogeneous mixture of a non-cellulose based material of high absorbency and a cellulose based material and a stock solution singly composed of cellulose based material by means of a nozzle. Then the mixture is formed into a complex fiber as a sheath-core type by spinning, elongation and refining the mixture.

  • Patent number: 5797081
Abstract: An improvement in a method of extruding a plasticized powder mixture having a thermally gellable binder carried in an aqueous vehicle, by passing the mixture through an extruder and then through a die to produce an extrudate, the improvement being the additional step of contacting the extrudate directly after it leaves the die with an agent for simultaneously lowering the gel point of the binder and dehydrating the extrudate. The result is a stiffening of the extrudate in a shorter time than it would be, absent the additional step.

  • Patent number: 5505890
Abstract: A dialysis membrane in the form of a hollow fiber with a continuous internal cavity is made of cellulose acetate or a cellulose acetate derivative. The membrane has a maximum screen coefficient of 0.04 for albumin with a molecular weight of 68,000. A dialysis membrane in the form of a hollow fiber with a continuous internal cavity may be made in a process using a spinning solution containing an organic carboxylic acid and a cavity-forming liquid. Modification agents and/or water are optionally added and the solution is extruded through a spinneret suitable for the manufacture of hollow fibers. The precipitation of the resultant dialysis membrane and the usual further aftertreatment take place in a precipitation bath. The organic carboxylic acid preferably is acetic acid and the precipitation bath preferably is a dilute acetic acid.

  • Patent number: 5358679
Abstract: A process for the production of rayon fibers. The viscose solution is spun into a spinbath which is acidic in character but has no zinc salt like conventional baths. The spin bath contains sulphuric acid, aluminum sulphate and sodium sulphate. The spinning is at temperatures of 35.degree.-60.degree. C. Usual stretching and post spinning operations are carried out as necessary. The regenerated cellulose fibers obtained are of novel cross-sections, namely of `c` cross section not achieved ever before. The fibers exhibit increased luster and softness.

  • Patent number: 4130689
Abstract: High strength hollow rayon fibers or filaments which will recover their hollow configuration after being immersed in water and subsequently dried are provided by an in-line process whereby a viscose solution containing a blowing agent is extruded into an aqueous acid coagulating bath of relatively high acid concentration. The conditions of the process result in hollow filaments that are substantially irreversible since they remain hollow and do not collapse even after repeated washing and drying cycles. The hollow filaments also possess high strength nearly equivalent to that of high wet modulus rayon fibers. Modifiers may be employed in achieving this effect, but are not necessary.
