With Multiple Injectors, Mold Cavities, Or Multiple Steps Of Injection Of Material Patents (Class 264/328.8)
  • Patent number: 6613262
Abstract: A mold apparatus provides a movable mold module which includes movable tie rods which are extendable and retractable with respect to the movable mold module of the mold apparatus, such that the tie rods may initially be removed from a gap between the platens of the mold apparatus when the platens have been separated. Preferably, the tie rod assemblies are movably mounted to the movable carriage or module, which also moves the injection machine and movable platen along a base toward and away from the fixed platen and corresponding mold part. Additionally, the tie rods may be extended relative to the movable platen as the platen is moved toward the fixed platen, such that the tie rods engage a locking member on the fixed platen to lock the platens relative to one another during the molding process. The tie rods are rotatable via a rotational device mounted at the movable platen, to rotate the tie rods and lock the tie rods to the locking member at the fixed platen.

Abstract: A method of forming a two-piece assembly, such as a container closure assembly, in which a spout member is movable on a chimney section defined by a chimney member, which is adapted to be engaged with the neck of a container for dispensing the container contents. The spout member is formed in a first mold cavity, and includes a side wall and an end wall with an opening. The first cavity is defined by first and second mold sections, and the second mold section is removed after the spout member is formed. The second mold section is then replaced by a third mold section, which cooperates with the first mold section and the spout member to form a second cavity having a shape corresponding to the chimney member. The second mold section and the side wall and end wall of the spout member cooperate to form the chimney member with a side wall and end wall which overlie the spout member side wall and end wall, respectively.

Abstract: The kinematic coupling of the present invention may comprise a wafer carrier or carrier base plate comprising a first material. The base plate or carrier is provided with a contact component comprising a second material having a lower co-efficient of friction than the first material. The contact component may be provided to the base plate or directly to the bottom of a wafer carrier as part of an overmolding, snap-in-place, staking, ultrasonic weld or adhesive operation and may additionally be held in place by mechanical interlocking of the respective components. The method of manufacturing may include providing a contact component comprised of a first material to a carrier component comprised of a second material via one or more of the processes listed above, wherein the second material has a higher coefficient of friction than the first.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a zipper without shift in injection molding comprises the steps of forming a bank of continuous zipper teeth at an edge a zipper strip; scraping a part of zipper teeth on the zipper strip; melting two layers of films and coating the films on the upper and lower sides of the zipper strip; punching holes at an inner lateral sides of the films; guiding two zipper strips into an upper and a lower engaging piece molds; and expanding the zipper strips; injection-molding engaging pieces; moving the molds from the zipper strips; cutting the zipper strips along the holes, thus forming the upper and lower engaging pieces of a zipper. When forming the hole, a connecting strip at an edge having the films must be retained. Thereby, the zipper strips can be precisely positioned in the upper engaging piece mold and the lower engaging piece mold.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multiple foam substrate of predetermined shape and a method of manufacturing the substrate. The substrate is a multiple foam substrate which may be manufactured by the method with a mold having first and second mold cavities. The method includes injecting a first foam into the first mold cavity sufficiently to fill the first mold cavity and storing the first foam in the first mold cavity for a predetermined time sufficient to form a substantially non-mixing surface on the first foam. The method further includes injecting a second foam into the second mold cavity and onto the non-mixing surface on the first foam sufficiently to fill the second mold cavity. The method further includes storing the second foam in the second mold cavity for a predetermined time sufficient to bond the first foam to the second foam along the non-mixing surface.

Abstract: A tool structure or tool insert has a runner system which includes at least one branching runner which branches in at least two directions forming at least a first pair of branch runners for receiving laminar flowing material for the formation of a product. Each branch runner is at a position in the runner system such that it receives material having significantly similar conditions from side-to-side of a bisecting plane of that runner which bisects the cross section of at least a portion of the length of that branch runner. This material also has dissimilar conditions from side-to-side of a perpendicular plane of each branch runner which is perpendicular to the bisecting plane of that runner with the perpendicular plane of each branch runner also bisecting the cross section of the same portion of the length of each branch runner that the bisecting plane bisects.

Abstract: Sleeve molding apparatus and methods for making multi-layer injection molded plastic articles in successive mold cavities. In a first molding step, an inner sleeve is molded on a core in a first mold cavity, which may comprise a full body length sleeve or only a partial sleeve, such as an upper neck finish portion. The sleeve and core are withdrawn from the first mold cavity while the sleeve is still warm, and transferred without substantial delay to a second mold cavity for injection molding an outer layer which bonds to the inner sleeve. By transferring the sleeve at an elevated temperature into the second mold cavity, an improved bond is formed between the inner sleeve and outer layer which resists separation during a later reheat stretch blow molding step, and/or in use of the resulting article. In a preferred embodiment, a pasteurizable beer container is provided having a finish-only sleeve of a PEN polymer.
