  • Patent number: 9500280
Abstract: A piston ring for sealing a cylinder wall to a piston body is provided. The piston ring includes a ring body of an elastically deformable material which extends substantially circumferentially around an axis and has an inner face that faces the axis. The inner face includes a plurality of axially spaced and radially inwardly extending contact features. The ring body configured to bias the contact features into engagement with the piston body to establish a seal therebetween. At least one of the contact features extends substantially continuously around a circumference for establishing a substantially continuous seal around the piston body, and at least one of the contact features is non-continuous and has at least one recessed area for allowing the passage of oil and gas therethrough.

  • Patent number: 8925698
Abstract: A brake cylinder includes a pressure medium actuated brake piston delimiting a brake chamber and connected to a brake piston rod. The brake piston, together with the piston rod, swivels into positions tilted from a center axis of the brake cylinder during an actuation stroke. The brake piston is rigid and has a guide surface in the shape of a spherical surface of an imaginary sphere on its radially outer peripheral surface. The guide surface is guided along a radially inner cylinder wall of the brake cylinder with the center of the sphere lying on the center axis of the brake cylinder. The brake piston further has at least one elastic sealing element radially displaceable in a radially outer annular groove of the brake piston and delimiting an annular space together with a groove base of the annular groove on its side facing away from the radially inner cylinder wall.

  • Patent number: 8313104
Abstract: A sealing device in which a good lubricating oil film is formed along the entire circumference of a sliding surface. The sealing device (1) is fitted in an annular groove formed in either of two elements that are a housing having a shaft hole and a shaft inserted through the shaft hole, and the sealing device (1) seals an annular gap between the two elements. The sealing device (1) has a seal ring (2) sliding against the other element by relative axial movements of the two elements. In the seal ring (2), on each of axially opposite ends of a sliding surface (20) sliding against the other element, there are formed grooves (22) extending from an end surface (21) of the seal ring (2) toward the axial center of a sliding surface (20).

  • Patent number: 6176492
Abstract: A number of embodiments of piston sealing arrangements for shock absorbers having a hydraulic cylinder in which a piston is slidably supported to define a pair of fluid chambers. The piston is provided with a peripheral groove in which a sealing piston ring is provided. A number of different communicating passage arrangements are formed in the piston ring that communicate the exterior surface of the piston ring which engages the cylinder bore with the interior surface of the piston ring which faces the ring groove so as to balance the pressure therebetween. In each embodiment a seal is provided between the piston ring groove and the piston ring so as to preclude fluid flow from one fluid chamber to the other through the piston ring groove and the communicating passage arrangement.
