  • Patent number: 9638328
Abstract: A rotating pumping apparatus is provided which may be employed in an automotive brake system. The rotating pumping apparatus includes a sealing member and an oil seal which are disposed around a pump drive shaft, and lubricating grease disposed between the oil seal and the pump drive shaft. The sealing member is made up of a resinous ring and a rubber cup. The sealing member has formed therein a labyrinthine flow path which extends from the resinous ring to the rubber cup. The labyrinthine flow path is designed to permit fluid to flow therethrough and create the resistance to flow of the lubricating grease to avoid leakage of the grease outside the sealing member.

Abstract: A piston ring is positioned in a groove of a piston and has an outer peripheral face. The outer peripheral face is generally tapered to an edge and includes a projection. The projection extends radially outwardly from the outer peripheral face along an upper surface of the piston ring. The projection reduces the gap between the outer peripheral face and a wall of the surrounding cylinder. The gap is typically exposed to combustion gases and the projection reduces the exposed area. Ring collapse is the separation of the outer peripheral face from the wall of the cylinder because of downward pressure forces of the combustion gases. Accordingly, the projection reduces the occurrence of ring collapse.

The annular seal elements 30 have an axial slot 32 therein and a key portion 36 extending therefrom, shaped to engage the axial slot 32. The seal elements 30 are arranged in an inverted nesting relationship to provide superior sealing characteristics when biased toward the machine part 18 by said support element 50.

Abstract: A piston sealing ring assembly (70) for sealing the piston/cylinder interface of a double-acting gas compressor including a first and second cut piston sealing ring (54,72) each bounded by first and second planar surfaces (6,8), the first piston sealing ring (54) having an overlapped cut with generally circumferentially extending inner and outer overlapping portions (56,58) which contact each other to form a continuous seal extending from the first surface (6) to the second surface (8) of the first piston sealing ring (52) and separating an inner ring gap (62) from an outer ring gap (64). The periphery of the outer ring gap (64) of the first piston sealing ring (54) at the first surface (6) is sealed by the second surface (8) of the second piston sealing ring (72). The second piston sealing ring (72) is similarly disposed in relation to the first piston sealing ring (54) so its outer ring gap (64) is sealed at the second surface (8) by the first surface (6) of the first piston sealing ring (54).

  • Patent number: 6189893
Abstract: A nitrated piston ring for the piston of an internal combustion engine. The piston ring has a circumferential indentation in its flank surface facing away from the combustion pressure. This indentation has a depth of a few Am and receives lubrication to prevent plating of aluminum from the aluminum piston on the flank surface of the piston ring.

  • Patent number: 6158744
Abstract: A seal arrangement is disclosed that provides a seal between a bore and a rod movable in the bore with a gap formed between the bore and the rod. The seal arrangement includes a floating elastomeric sealing ring which is accommodated in a circumferential groove around the rod. The sealing ring sealingly engages the wall of the bore. An annular resilient biasing device is also accommodated in the groove. The biasing device acts between one wall of the groove and the sealing ring to urge the sealing ring against an opposing wall of the groove. In addition, the biasing device is configured to allow passage of fluid past the biasing device between a region of the groove disposed radially inwardly of the sealing ring and the gap between the rod and the bore on the side of the sealing ring opposite the opposing wall. The biasing device has, at least at some circumferential positions therearound, a cross-sectional profile that reduces in radial width towards one wall of the groove.
