Slotted Or Undulating Circular Band Including Inclined Or Axially Facing Seat For The Piston Ring Patents (Class 277/477)
  • Patent number: 11359504
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a sliding seal between two components. The sliding seal includes a first seal section and an uncoupled second seal section which allows the first and second seal sections to move relative to one another during relative movement between the two components. One or more spring tabs extend from the second seal section and bias the first and second seal sections away from one another.

  • Publication number: 20150145218
Abstract: A combined oil control ring for automobile engines capable of keeping an excellent oil-controlling function without suffering sticking between a spacer expander and side rails for a long period of operation comprises upper and lower two side rails, and an axially corrugated spacer expander having upper and lower portions; a leg portion connecting each upper portion and each lower portion of the spacer expander having a portion having an inclination angle ? of 15° or more from the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 8662047
Abstract: A handheld work apparatus has an internal combustion engine (9, 9?, 9?) and a starter device (8). The internal combustion engine has a piston (10, 10?) which has at least one piston ring (37, 38). In order to avoid a delay when starting the engine, at least one recess is provided in the cylinder bore (26) which bridges the at least one piston ring (37, 38) in at least one position of the piston (10, 10?) and which has a distance (n, o, p) to all function openings of the engine (9, 9?, 9?) configured in the cylinder bore (26). To reduce the compression in the combustion chamber (25), the piston (10?) has only one piston ring (37) or two piston rings (37, 38) are provided having respective piston ring gaps (39, 40) defining an angle (?) which is up to approximately 45°.

  • Publication number: 20080265518
Abstract: A piston ring is made of high polymers and fits in a circumferential groove of a piston in a cylinder of a compressor or a vacuum pump. A plurality of cuts are formed in the piston ring. When the piston ring is turned inside up or pulled out radially, it is stretched out. The piston ring can easily be fitted in the circumferential groove of the piston to prevent a fluid from leaking through between the piston and the cylinder with sufficient sealing capability.

  • Patent number: 7243596
Abstract: In a combined oil ring having a spacer expander to be installed between a pair of upper and lower side rails, a plurality of axially protruding inner peripheral protruding portions are formed on the inner peripheral side of the spacer expander along its peripheral direction. The inner peripheral protruding portions press the inner peripheral surface of the side rails. On the outer peripheral side of the spacer expander, a plurality of slits are formed, and a plurality of connecting portions are located in the peripheral direction isolated by the slits. On the plurality of connecting portions, axially protruding outer peripheral protruding portions are formed.

  • Patent number: 6655697
Abstract: An oil control ring for a piston of an internal combustion engine has an annular body defining a central axis. The ring has a U-shaped cross-section formed of a centrally positioned web extending parallel to the axis and a pair of axially spaced rail portions integrally connected to the web. Each rail portion extends radially outwardly with respect to the web, and an extremity of each rail portion defines a land extending parallel to the axis and adapted to sealingly engage a cylinder wall. Each land defines a pair of spaced chamfered sidewalls. Each sidewall extends contiguously from each land to define a chamfered edge adjacent the land. Finally, each chamfered edge defines a concave annular sidewall. The result is a reduction of land surface area in contact with the cylinder walls of an engine to provide improved performance, particularly during the engine break-in period.

  • Patent number: 5820131
Abstract: A Cr.sub.2 N film or a mixed Cr.sub.2 N and Cr film formed by physical vapor deposition on the outer circumferential surface of a piston ring which is in contact with the inner circumferential surface of a cylinder. The axial width of the outer circumferential surface of the piston ring is 0.6 mm or less. The nitrogen content of the film is 11 to 17 percent by weight. The Vicker's hardness of the film is in the range of HV1300 to HV2000. The thickness of the film is 3 .mu.m to 30 .mu.m.
