Plural Peripheral Radially Sealing Flexible Projections Patents (Class 277/562)
  • Patent number: 7810208
Abstract: An improved rod wiper for excluding dirt and other environmental materials from a linear actuator is described. The annular wiper element includes an outwardly extended lip that is in constant engagement with the front face of the actuator housing. Not only does the lip assist in creating a seal with the housing, it redirects axial forces to have a radial component on the inwardly extended lips of the wiper element in contact with the rod to improve the seal of the wiper element and rod.

  • Publication number: 20100212313
Abstract: A projection (21b4) provided at a tip portion of an inner lip portion (21b) of a first cup seal (21) comes in contact with a second side wall (20c) of a recessed portion (20) and a large axial force is exerted in the axial direction on a first tapered inner peripheral surface (21b1) of the first cup seal (21) from a rear side tapered surface (4b2) of a primary piston (4). This makes it possible to reliably hold the first cup seal (21) in the axial direction by utilizing the axial force. Therefore, the first cup seal (21) can be suppressed from moving in the axial direction. In particular, the projection (21b4) of the first cup seal (21) comes in contact with a tapered surface (20c?) of the second side wall (20c) to obtain a further increased axial force, and the first cup seal (21) can be held more reliably.

  • Patent number: 7770897
Abstract: A dynamic shaft seal assembly is provided including a dynamic seal for engaging a rotary shaft. The dynamic seal includes a base portion that is mounted within a casing and has an axially extending barrel portion extending from a radially inner end of the base portion. The axially extending barrel portion terminates in a radially extending leg portion which extends inwardly from an end of the axially extending portion. A generally conically shaped seal portion extends from an end of the radially extending portion and the seal portion includes a radially inner face engaging the shaft and a radially outer face having a stiffening bead integrally formed thereon. The stiffening bead reduces the seal's propensity for “bell mouthing” while the axially extending barrel portion provides improved shaft followability for the dynamic seal.

Abstract: Apparatus to enhance performance of sequentially-deployable lip seal assemblies. In certain embodiments, biasing members to ensure deployment of sequentially deployable lip seals include an o-ring mounted within a cartridge or housing of one or more yet-to-be-deployed lip seals, with the o-ring disposed immediately adjacent one of the lip seals. When a barrier member or deployment sleeve is interposed between the one or more yet-to-be-deployed lip seals and a shaft, such as a rotating and/or reciprocating shaft of a stuffing box, the o-ring biases the lip seal toward the outside diameter of the shaft. Upon movement of the barrier member or deployment sleeve to a position exposing the Hp seal to the shaft, the o-ring urges the lip seal into engagement with the outside diameter of the shaft. A pressurized fluid may be employed between the housing and the o-rings. Flush paths, multi-part housings, and baffle-type housings are also disclosed.

Further, when the U-shaped elastic member (33) is installed in the groove (41), an axial position (L1) of an end surface (44a) at the side opposite to the sealed object of a fixing collar (44) formed on an inner peripheral surface of the groove (41) is positioned at the side (B) opposite to the sealed object than the axial position (L2) of a leading end portion (15b) of a seal lip (15) of the fuel seal member (12).

Abstract: A nozzle system includes a multitude of circumferentially distributed divergent seals that circumscribe an engine centerline. Each divergent seal includes a multiple of divergent seal intakes adjacent to a joint structure to receive cooling airflow. Each divergent seal body is manufactured of a metallic hot sheet inner skin and a metallic cold sheet outer skin. The skins form a multiple of longitudinal channels which communicate with a multiple of edge channels formed within the first longitudinal side and the second longitudinal side of each divergent seal. The multiple of edge channels are located transverse to the longitudinal axis and are raked aft to facilitate cooling of the gas path surface of each divergent seal and adjacent divergent flaps.

  • Patent number: 7108267
Abstract: Unitary radial lip seals are useful to provide permanent lubrication to rotary shaft and bearing assemblies. In addition, these seals also function as excluder seals to keep dirt, chemicals, and other contaminants from contacting the lubricated surfaces. However, previous radial lip seals have a tendency to wear or cut a groove into the associated rotary shaft, as the shaft is rotated during normal operation of the machine. The present disclosure describes a radial lip seal having a sleeve, a seal case, a faceplate and flexible member. This improved seal also has a second sleeve operably positioned between the shaft and the faceplate wiper ring that alleviates the tendency of the wiper ring to cut a groove into the shaft during normal operation of the machine.
