  • Patent number: 7055828
Abstract: A lubricant seal assembly has an outer seal component and a separate inner wear sleeve. The outer seal component has a carrier and a PTFE seal element which lays down against the wear sleeve to provide a seal collar extending to an oil side of the seal assembly. The wear sleeve is formed on an air side of the assembly with an end flange, but is free of any such flanges on the oil side. The end flange has an axial portion extending into the seal component to define a labyrinth debris exclusion path. One or more elastomeric debris exclusion lips are formed on the carrier and are precisely positioned relative to the wear sleeve with the aid of an installation tool that engages end faces of the seal component and wear sleeve to press them into precise axial alignment relative to one another in repeatable fashion.

  • Patent number: 6991234
Abstract: A unitary sleeve lip seal can be used to provide permanently lubricated sealed bearings in severe service conditions such as the track pins of track-driven vehicles and agricultural equipment. The seal has a labyrinthine exclusion path and multiple dust lips contacting the sleeve in addition to the main sealing lip. A garter spring encircling the main sealing lip may enable the seal to operate at moderately elevated pressures. The sleeve has a radial flange at the outermost end. Elastomeric lips extend between the sleeve flange and a faceplate that terminates the outside end of the seal housing. The seal is packed with water-resistant grease and can, when installed in association with grease-packed bearings can create a permanently lubricated bearing/shaft assembly that requires no re-greasing. Resilient coatings both protect the sleeve and case and also improve leak resistance, especially when the seal is retrofitted onto shafts that have been damaged.

  • Patent number: 6979001
Abstract: A wheel bearing includes a sealing device 5 positioned between inner and outer members 1 and 2. This sealing device 5 includes an elastic member 14, which eventually forms an encoder grid and is provided on a first annular sealing plate 11. A second annular sealing plate 12 is provided with sealing lips 16a to 16c. An engagement 18 between a cylindrical wall 11a of the first annular sealing plate 11 and the inner member 1 is provided with an elastic member 20 made of a material dissimilar to that for the elastic material 14. This elastic member 20 may be a rubber coated layer, resin paint layer, a thin film of adhesive material or a ring-shaped rubber member. Thereby, any possible ingress of water across an engagement surface of the annular sealing plate is prevented, accompanied by increase of the lifetime of the bearing, with no problem associated with separation and displacement of the annular sealing plates. The magnetic flux density can also be easily secured.

  • Patent number: 6860486
Abstract: A shaft sealing ring for a shaft comprises a sealing lip made of an elastomeric material or a PTFE compound and dimensioned as to be flaccidly bendable. The flexural elasticity is selected such that it will just be sufficient to press a sealing portion of the sealing lip into sealing engagement with the periphery of the shaft. The sealing portion of the sealing lip engages the periphery for a predetermined length. In the sealing portion, the sealing lip is provided along its circumference, at the side of the shaft, with endless, undulating return channels at least throughout this length. These channels return any medium escaping during rotation of the shaft to the space to be sealed. The return channels do not communicate with the surroundings of the shaft sealing ring. No seperate contact pressure means, such as a helical ring coil spring is required to press the sealing lip into engagement with the shaft.

Abstract: Seal devices of this invention are prepared by the process of depositing a polymer material onto a metallic substrate to form a composite construction, and shape forming the composite construction into the shape of a seal device. The so-formed seal device comprises a casing member that is formed from the metallic substrate, and a sealing element disposed along a surface of the casing member that is formed from the polymer material for placement against a sealing surface. Seal devices of this invention can be shaped formed into a variety of different types of seals, e.g., lips seals, L-shaped seals, and U-cup seals, which may or may not be energized. Seal devices prepared according to this invention using such preformed composite construction enable seal formation by a single step of shape forming, without having to both make and form individual seal members, and subsequently combine or join the separately formed seal members together.

  • Patent number: 6746018
Abstract: A multiple shaft seal arrangement positioned between a shaft and an inside diameter surface of an aperture in a wall. The multiple shaft seal arrangement has a flinger attached to the shaft with a face seal mounted to the flinger. A double lip oil seal is mounted to the inside diameter of the aperture. The flinger is positioned such that the face seal is pressed against the double lip oil seal. Accordingly, rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the flinger and face seal. This centrifugally throws contaminants, such as particulate matter, away from the aperture. The void between the face seal and the inside diameter of the aperture is filled with grease or similar substance. The combination of these elements greatly prohibits debris, moisture, particulate matter or other environmental elements from passing from one side of the multiple shaft seal arrangement to the other.

Abstract: Advantageous seal systems (1500) are provided that include a barrier member movable relative (1504) to a shaft (1550) to allow sequential engagement of resilent seal members (1506), e.g., lip seals, with the shaft. Movement of the barrier member (1504) may be effected manually or through introduction of pressurized fluid to effect piston-like movement. The disclosed seal assemblies may include an automatic leak detector and may utilize such leak detection to effectuate automatic movement of the barrier member. The barrier member may be moved relative to the shaft while the shalt is in movement, e.g., rotating or reciprocating, thereby permitting seal maintenance without interruption in operation. As seal members are sequentially brought into sealing engagement with the shaft, the previously engaged seal members contribute to the sealing performance of the seal assembly, although no longer effective to establish a stand-alone seal with the shaft.

Abstract: First pumping threads are formed on an inner circumferential surface of the seal lip portion of an elastomer lip member. The first pumping threads generate a pumping action in a leakage direction when a shaft rotates. A first resin lip member is arranged at a rear side of the elastomer lip member. Second pumping threads generate a pumping action in a direction opposite to the leakage direction when the shaft rotates. Abstract: A seal assembly has simple assembly structures, and provides secure sealing effects. A crawler-track connection structure allows the seal assembly to be easily mounted, and securely prevents overflow of a lubricant and the like to the outside. A pair of seal rings (1) and (1) individually having lip portions (23) and (23) are disposed such that each of the lip portions (23) and (23) protrudes in a direction opposing an axial direction, and a load seal ring (2) is compressed and inserted between the pair of seal rings (1) and (1).
