  • Patent number: 6454267
Abstract: A corrosion resistant gasket for aircraft, and more particularly to encapsulation of a conductive mesh in a pliable fluorosilicone compound that will not become bonded to mating surfaces and will also migrate upon compression during installation to the threads of attaching hardware utilized between the instrument, antenna, and aircraft structure, thereby reducing corrosion through the attaching hardware, by providing a hermetic seal around the periphery of the envelope of the attached device.

  • Patent number: 6431555
Abstract: A plurality of arcuate, circumferentially extending leaf seal segments form an annular seal spanning between annular sealing surfaces of inner and outer casings of a turbine. The ends of the adjoining seal segments have circumferential gaps to enable circumferential expansion and contraction of the segments. The end of a first segment includes a tab projecting into a recess of a second end of a second segment. Edges of the tab seal against the sealing surfaces of the inner and outer casings have a narrow clearance with opposed edges of the recess. An overlying cover plate spans the joint. Leakage flow is maintained at a minimum because of the reduced gap between the radially spaced edges of the tab and recess, while the seal segments retain the capacity to expand and contract circumferentially.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an expandable pre-formed plug that is suitable for sealing and/or structurally reinforcing a structure having surfaces defining a space therebetween. The plug is comprised of at least an expandable inner core having an outer surface and a transportable outer skin that preferably substantially encapsulates the core. In a preferred embodiment, the shape of the unexpanded plug is designed to mate with the surfaces that define a space therebetween upon expansion. The adhesive skin is generally dry to the touch at room temperature, however, upon initiation of expansion, the inner core expands and the surrounding skin is displaced in a coordinated manner. After some period of expansion, the outer skin preferably durably adheres or bonds to the walls of the surfaces defining a space therebetween and the outer surface of the core. A method for using such a plug is also disclosed.

Abstract: A water-resistant function can be maintained even in the case where a substrate is interposed between packings. Packing has a rib-shaped convex portion having a uniform height and width on a surface contacting a flexible substrate. The packing with such a convex portion is fitted in grooves provided in a body and a back cover. The rib-shaped convex portion disposed on the packing is biased to an edge portion of the substrate when a housing is closed, and is elastically deformed in a direction in which it comes into close contact with a side surface portion of the substrate. Thus, the convex portion disposed on the packing blocks up a gap generated in the vicinity of the side surface of the substrate and has a functional effect of suppressing water from entering.

  • Patent number: 6390042
Abstract: An improved releasable and reusable self-sealing plug for mechanically sealing a bore. A cylindrical body is formed on its outer surface to retain radial sealing means such as an O-ring. An oversize annular cap at the outer end of the body limits ingress of the plug into a bore, and a pair of opposed, flexible limbs terminating in flanges beyond the inner end of the body are compressed radially during insertion of the plug and spring out at completion of insertion to grip the inner entrance to the bore, thus holding the O-ring and plug in the bore. Insertion may be accomplished manually without the aid of tools. The plug cannot be driven out by pressure on the bore, but is easily removed by recompression of the limbs and flanges and withdrawal of the plug by, for example, needle-nose pliers. The plug may be formed inexpensively and easily by injection molding of a suitable plastic polymer.

Sealing members of flexible foam rubber rich in restoring force are arranged in the clearance between the dustproof cover and the side walls of the track rail. Abstract: Gas purification resins are encapsulated in deformable, permeable polymer sheaths to form purification rings, gaskets or seals. A primary source of contaminants in advanced vacuum processors equipped with vacuum load-lock systems and process gas purifiers is from the leakage of outside ambient contaminants around O-ring seals. Using gas purification rings, gaskets or seals properly placed inside or outside of the outer O-ring seal, the level of contaminants (particularly hydrocarbons, oxygen and moisture) may be significantly reduced or eliminated. The gas purification ring is preferably a hydrocarbon and/or oxygen and/or moisture absorbing and/or adsorbing material encased within a contaminant permeable casing. The gas purification ring can be round or flattened and is preferably more resilient than the O-rings adjacent thereto which form the seal. An adhesive can be placed around the casing holding the purification resin to prevent movement from its purifying location.
