  • Patent number: 5044671
Abstract: A hose coupling assembly for use particularly in an automotive air conditioning system, or other system requiring the effective sealing of a refrigerant over extended periods of time, comprising a hose having an inner liner of thermoplastic material and being maintained in compression by a swaged sleeve over a fitting having a primary sealing element in the form of a resilient O-ring and a plurality of locking grooves into which the thermoplastic liner is to be cold-formed to preclude the possibility of the thermoplastic liner flowing during operation at elevated operating temperatures and to provide a secondary seal at all operating temperatures to which the coupling is exposed. The components, particularly the O-ring and fitting elements, being seized relative to one another to minimize flow of the inner liner at elevated operating temperatures and to maintain the O-ring as a live seal under all operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4958789
Abstract: In a hose fitting fixing construction according to this invention, an engagement member having restoring force of gravity or elastic force is disposed in an engagement space of a bracket. The engagement member engages with an engagement dent of a hose fitting flange inserted into the engagement space, thereby engaging the hose fitting flange with the bracket. A detachment hole may be provided on the bracket to enable easy detachment of the hose fitting flange from the bracket. A detachment jig is inserted into the detachment hole to deform the engagement member against the restoring force and disengage the engagement member from the engagement dent of the hose fitting flange, thereby enabling to detach the hose fitting flange from the engagement space. Accordingly, the hose fitting flange can be installed to the bracket by snap-action even in a limited work space, and detached with ease.

Abstract: A swivel hose coupling assembly and method provides a collar having an angularly inwardly disposed locking annulus. The angular disposition of the locking annulus permits a novel method of assembling the swivel hose coupling members. In a preferred form, the assembly is designed for affixation to one end of an elastomeric hose, and includes a cylindrical insert having a serrated external surface at one end thereof, a shoulder at an opposing end, and a locking groove intermediate the serrated surface and shoulder. A fitting is rotatably mounted over the insert, the fitting having a mating shoulder for contact with the shoulder of the insert. An annular collar is concentrically positioned over an exposed end of the fitting, a first end of the collar containing the locking annulus being inserted first over the serrated portion of the insert.

  • Patent number: 4664423
Abstract: A polybutylene tubing coupling and method of making that coupling utilizes a male tubular connector element having the same inside diameter as the major extent of the tubing. A coupling element is provided with stop shoulder at one end and a series of annular radially projecting barbs on its outside diameter which are preferably undercut in the direction of the stop shoulder or tubing end. An end of the tube is treated preferably by heating to enable the material to expand and the tubing end is inserted on or slipped over the male element against the stop shoulder. In such position the treated tubing end is mechanically compressed between two semi-circular dies to cause the material of the treated tubing end to flow around the barbs. Thereafter a metal crimp is placed around the tubing end between the stop shoulder and the next adjacent barb, or over the top of one or all barbs. The tubing connection thus formed is then permitted to cool at ambient temperature for approximately 7 days.
