  • Patent number: 7744133
Abstract: A clamping apparatus for allowing pre-close-out access to the head of a Stirling machine and facilitating subsequent close-out welding of the head. The head is axially separable into removable and fixed portions that engage each other. Each portion has an annular flange extending radially outwardly at its engaging end, and each flange has an annular groove. O-rings are seated in the grooves. A temporary sealing ring surrounds and engages the O-rings. Clamping rings seat against axially opposite sides of the abutting annular flanges. Fasteners draw the rings together, thereby drawing the fixed and removable portions of the head together and securing them against relative axial movement. For close-out of the machine, the clamping rings, temporary sealing ring, and O-rings are removed and the grooved annular flanges serve as weld reliefs for final hermetic close-out welding.

The collar is provided with retaining stops (44, 46, 48) and at least one locking member (60) arranged so as to cooperate with an engagement region (34) of at least one of the manifolds in order to prevent any accidental extraction of the open collar once fitted. Application in particular to heat exchangers for motor vehicles.

Abstract: A pipe joint clamp for connecting piping members includes a circular holding portion in which flange portions of the piping members are clamped, and multiple flexion-shaped hinge portions, which protrude from the holding portion toward a diametrically outer side thereof. The hinge portions are resiliently deformable to accommodate a variation of outer diameters of the flange portions. Thus, a protrusion amount of the each hinge portion can be reduced. Accordingly, the space occupied by the clamp at the joint part of the piping members is decreased.

Abstract: A mounting bracket adapted for use in mounting a wastegate actuator to a turbocharger of an automotive engine. The mounting bracket includes a flat metal bracket having a hole formed therein, for supporting the wastegate actuator, and a clamping portion integrally attached to the metal bracket. The clamping portion surrounds a cylindrical inlet portion of the turbocharger to mount the bracket thereon. The clamping portion is also used to tighten the wastegate actuator in place on the turbocharger body. Once a desired position of wastegate actuator is achieved, the clamping portion is tightened around the turbocharger pipe using a fastener to keep the two halves of the clamping portion fastened together. The design of the mounting bracket allows for a large number of positions in which the wastegate actuator is placed on the turbocharger.

In a further specific embodiment, the subject invention can utilize stainless steel sealing, where the flanges and seals are stainless steel. The subject seal may be made and released and remade multiple times. In a specific embodiment, the subject seal may be unaffected by heat extremes and more resistant to corrosive environments than copper and other soft metal seals. The subject invention can utilize sexless flanges, so as to avoid male/female design problems and can utilize infinitely rotatable flanges. The subject infinitely rotatable flanges eliminate bolt hole alignment problems, such that rotatable bolted flanges are not needed.

Abstract: A pipe and snap connector assembly including mating male and female pipes joined by a clam-shell type connector. The female pipe receives a portion of the male pipe, and each pipe provides a radial flange configured such that there is a gap between the radial flanges when the male pipe is received in the female pipe. A sealing washer or seal is disposed between the flanges, in the gap. The clam-shell type connector is of open-ended barrel construction, and includes a radial clamp cavity that is sized to contact the radial flanges on the male and female pipes and axially compress them against the seal to provide a fluid-tight connection of the pipes.
