  • Patent number: 6199254
Abstract: A swaging tool for use in swaging axially swaged fittings for joining together pipes. The present invention provides a radially balanced axial force, for uniformly pushing a ring of an axially swaged fitting over a sleeve, to swage the fitting to the pipe. The swaging tool of the present invention includes a tubular housing, having an inner surface, which defines a bore. The bore is configured to receive a pipe section having an axially swaged fitting placed thereon in preparation for swaging. Preferably, the housing may be split lengthwise into two opposed sections, such that when the two sections are brought together, the sections completely surround a portion of the pipe section and the fitting. Each housing section is provided a plurality of pusher assemblies, each pusher assembly may preferably be connected to a source of hydraulic pressure, which when activated moves the pusher assembly axially to provide the axial force necessary for swaging the fitting.

Abstract: In a broad aspect, the invention relates to a new design for a fairlead that is capable of being remotely uninstalled from and then reinstalled on an offshore drilling and production vessel, while the vessel is in its moored position, in the event that the fairlead develops mechanical difficulties that require repair. Thus, the present invention discloses a fairlead that may be remotely uninstalled and reinstalled while the fairlead is underwater and without ballasting the vessel far enough to raise the fairlead above the water surface. The need for this invention primarily arises in connection with fairleads that are mounted to a vessel of the type where the ballasting process can be a very difficult, time-consuming, and expensive process.

  • Patent number: 5699600
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically press-fitting a turntable has a turntable driving motor which is attachably/detachably installed to/from a driving motor fixing part for inserting a rotating shaft of the driving motor into a turntable assembly with significantly high precision to minimize eccentric error. Here, a first press-fitting part pressively fixes the driving motor to the driving motor fixing part, and a second press-fitting part descends the driving motor fixing part press-fitted with the driving motor in a motor shaft direction. The center of a turntable assembly fixing part is arranged at an extending line of driving motor shaft to allow a rotating shaft of the turntable assembly to be exactly coaxial with the driving motor.

  • Patent number: 5680688
Abstract: A portable apparatus is provided for affixing a lacer assembly to one end of a belt. A lacer assembly is in the form of a plurality of paralleled metal lacing hooks each having a pin receiving loop, the lacing hooks each having opposed sharpened ends that are spaced to receive the end of a belt therebetween. The apparatus has a base that supports a backup anvil and moveable anvil that receives a lacer attached therebetween. The lacer attachment includes an elongated bolt extendable through the loop of each of the lacer hooks by which a lacer assembly is temporarily retained. A manually operatable jack is supported to the base and has a moveable portion that engages the moveable anvil. When one end of a belt is positioned between the sharpened ends of the lacer hooks positioned in the lacer attachment the jack can be actuated to force the lacer attachment jaws towards each other to deform the lacer hooks to attach them to the belt.

  • Patent number: 5659938
Abstract: A Translational Press and Mandrel Apparatus for Straightening Baghouse cages. The mandrel is rigid, fixed, generally cylindrical and disposed generally horizontal to temporarily coaxially receive cages to be straightened. It has a closed generally rounded distal end for receiving the cage to be straightened. Also, the mandrel has a flange disposed on a proximal end to facilitate anchoring the mandrel to a relatively stable structure such as the trailer upon which it is transported. The translational press contacts and straightens the cages disposed on the mandrel. The press comprises a pair of hinged generally hemicylindrical dies adapted to be forced together to form a generally cylindrical form to compress the cage to the contours of the mandrel and joined dies. A carriage mounting the dies and compression means for forcing the dies together is slidably displaceable along the length of a track disposed below and generally parallel to the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 5655281
Abstract: A reciprocation control apparatus includes a manifold including delivery and exhaust ports formed therethrough, the manifold being movable between an air delivery/exhaust pipe to a pushing-out cylinder and an air delivery pipe to an air supply. When the manifold is moved to a position in which the delivery and exhaust ports are connected to each other, air is selectively supplied to or exhausted from the head and cap sides of the pushing-out cylinder. Thus, the pushing-out cylinder can easily and simply be controlled in reciprocation. When such a reciprocation control apparatus is incorporated into a ring alignment apparatus, the ring alignment apparatus can easily and simply be switched from one state to another with an automated alignment being carried out to handle a number of ring members.

  • Patent number: 5649347
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for assembling a frame, wherein the frame includes slotted side members connected by corner members insertable into slots of the slotted side members. The apparatus includes a table for holding side members of the frame, and a pair of ram assemblies proximate the table and having rams which move toward and from the table. When a ram of a ram assembly is activated a corner bracket received by the ram assembly is inserted into a frame side member carried by the table. The table includes locking mechanisms and guide members. Each locking mechanism and guide member combination orients a frame side member in an aligned position in relation to a ram, and locks a side member so that the side member remains stable when a ram is activated to insert a corner bracket into a side member. The apparatus is particularly useful for assembling a flange frame of an air conditioning or heating duct.

  • Patent number: 5638909
Abstract: This invention relates to an attachment device for a pneumatic hammer tool used to remove a bolt or rod being held in a fixture. The low cost attachment device consists of an alignment sleeve and a tapered coil spring which aligns a driving bit of an air hammer to the bolt to be driven from the fixture and absorbs the shock of the impact during the driving operation. As the driving bit reaches the end of its travel, the addition of a spacer bar allows the driving operation to continue. A method for removal of the bolt is disclosed to facilitate the removal operation. This method relies on the contact of the alignment sleeve with the fixture and the compression of the spring to facilitate quick removal of the bolt. An application of this apparatus has been used to remove a spring attachment bolt on a truck trailer reducing the time for removal to 30 minutes from 3 to 4 hours.

  • Patent number: 5617620
Abstract: A snap ring applicator having a pair of scissor arms connected to a pivot element. The snap ring applicator includes a linear activating device connected to a driving element. The driving element contacts the angled activating surface contained on the rear end of the scissor arms. The linear movement of the driving element forces the rear end of the scissor arms together which causes the scissor arms to pivot about a pivot element and thereby separates the front ends of the scissor arms. Contained in each front end of the scissor arms is a snap ring pin, which is sized to engage a snap ring. When the snap ring applicator is activated to move the front ends of the scissor arms apart, the snap ring pins act to expand the inner diameter of the snap ring. When expanded as such, the snap ring can then be passed over the pipe or shaft to which it is to be applied. The snap ring applicator is then deactivated, which returns the snap ring to its original size, thereby securely positioning the snap ring as desired.

  • Patent number: 5613297
Abstract: A tool (10) is provided for inserting a wire (12) into a wire-receiving slit (13) of an IDC (14) and for trimming the excess portion of the wire following insertion. The tool includes a prime mover (24) coupled to a guide member (36) having a wire-receiving notch (60) in one end, and a slot (64) coextensive with the notch. The guide member (36) has a blade (46) that is pivotally coupled to the guide member for movement across the wire-receiving notch (60). When the guide member (36) is positioned to partially envelop the IDC (14) in the slot (64), and the prime mover (24) is actuated, the guide member forces the wire (12) seated in the notch (62) into the slit (13) of the IDC.
