  • Patent number: 8740009
Abstract: A tank that includes layers of fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) formed by alternately winding hoop and helical bundles of fiber over its outer surface. The winding produces stepped portions, i.e. unevenness, in a helical layer positioned as the innermost layer. Such unevenness affects an outer layer (especially a hoop layer) directly adjacent to the innermost helical layer and lowers fatigue strength of the adjacent outer layer. In order to prevent this fatigue strength decrease, the bundle of fiber used for the innermost helical layer has a smaller sectional area than the bundles used for the outer layers. Consequently, decreasing the sectional area of the innermost helical bundle decreases the stepped portions, which, in turn, decreases the transfer of unevenness to the outer layer (especially a hoop layer) directly adjacent to the helical layer. As a result, fatigue strength of the adjacent outer layer (especially a hoop layer) increases.

Abstract: A furniture jig comprises a frame member positioning portion and a spring stretcher portion with at least the positioning frame portion having a rotating feature. The positioning frame portion may surround the spring stretcher portion and comprises constraint members that define receiving regions, such as slots or channels, into which furniture components, such a box frame members, may be inserted. The receiving regions of the jig frame maintain the furniture components upright or in other useful orientations at least until they are affixed together. In embodiments, the spring stretcher has a plurality of spring receiving portions on which the ends of a spring can be releasably engaged. Support members extending from the spring receiving portions operate to move the spring receiving portions from a spring loading position in which the springs can positioned on the tips to a spring attachment position where the springs are securable to the frame members.

Abstract: A product management display system for merchandising product on a shelf includes using a trackless pusher mechanism that travels along a surface on which product is placed and one or more dividers for separating product into rows. The one or more dividers may be engaged to a front rail in two different conditions, locked and unlocked. In a locked condition, the relationship between the divider and the front rail resists alteration in any direction with respect to each other. In the unlocked condition, the dividers may be freely slid laterally along the front rail, while remaining perpendicular to the front rail. The one or more dividers may lock to the front rail through the use of corresponding teeth, resilient surfaces, a locking tab, a locking bar and/or a cam.

Abstract: A pre-assembled pipe coupling for joining and sealing two grooved-ended pipe segments without disassembling the coupling is disclosed. The coupling has a housing with upper and lower arcuate housing segments and left and right bridge segments. Each bridge segment has at least one set of dihedrally angled faces that engage corresponding faces each in the upper and lower housing segments. Drawing the upper and lower segments inwardly together along a first axis, presses each bridge segment inward along a second axis roughly tangential to the first axis. All segments are loosely pre-assembled with bolts and nuts into a coupling and all segments each have radially inwardly projecting lands that mate with end grooves in the pipes to be joined. The coupling also has a one-piece circular sealing gasket that has an inward circumferential and centrally positioned pipe stop that has an inner diameter smaller than an outer diameter of the pipes to be joined.

Abstract: An electronic device may have polarizer layers, color filter layers, thin-film-transistor layers, and other display layers. A display layer may be separated from structures such as a display cover layer formed from clear glass or plastic and a touch sensor layer mounted on an inner surface of the display cover layer by an air gap. Cavities within an electronic device housing may serve as a source of dust and other contaminants. The air gap may be sealed against dust intrusion from a cavity within an electronic device using a dust sealing structure. The dust sealing structure may have a rectangular ring shape that runs around a rectangular peripheral portion of a display layer. The dust sealing structure may be formed from a tape-based structure, an elastomeric structure, a compressible foam structure, or a cured liquid structure.

Abstract: A connection for firmly securing an adapter for carrying a digging tooth to a lip of an excavating container. The connection has substantially aligned openings in the adapter and the lip. A pressure applying unit, such as a hydraulic actuator, is arranged inside the opening and generates a generally horizontally acting force which draws the adapter and the lip towards each other. A stress member is operatively coupled to the hydraulic actuator and resiliently deforms relative to its relaxed shape when it is subjected to the horizontally acting force. The wedge is shaped so that upon a reduction or cessation of the horizontally acting force the stress member, remains in the resiliently deformed state in which it draws the adapter and the lip towards each other and keeps them immovably secured to each other until the wedge can be withdrawn following a repressurization of the hydraulic actuator.
