Abstract: An assembly includes a flexurally deformed panel, which is connected to a membrane tie by a linear connector and is tied by the membrane tie to form a geometrically stable pre-stressed structure. More than one panel may be flexurally deformed and tied together in an assembly and more than one membrane tie may be present within an assembly. Panels are typically semi-rigid sheet materials, for example metal sheets, plastic sheets, or sheets of composite materials, such as glass or carbon fibre reinforced plastics or resins. Membrane tie members are typically flexible, for example plastic films, fabrics or nets or arrays of rods or cables. The assemblies have many different geometric forms and many different practical applications. Assemblies may be relatively large, for example demountable and reusable shelters or flat-pack point-of-purchase display assemblies, or may be relatively small, for example a photograph or postcard display system.

The aperture is V-shaped, with the V-shape having converging side walls that define a low-angulation direction near their intersection and a high-angulation direction opposite the low-angulation direction. In some cases, the angulation limit of the bone screw is generally constant over a range of azimuthal angles centered around the high-angulation direction. Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the torque of a compound balance in order to substantially cancel out the torsional force of the torsion spring acting on the spiral rod by creating an equal and opposing torsional force on the extension spring. The apparatus is an assembly connector that is non-permanently engaged with the extension spring, with the spiral rod being tensioned by the torsional force of the torsion spring. Alternatively, the extension spring may be turned in a direction to apply more torque than is required for operation of the compound balance. It is then engaged with a non pre-tensioned spiral rod sub-assembly to transfer the excess torque to the torsion spring of the spiral rod sub-assembly. In this manner, the opposing torsional forces of the torsion spring and the extension spring acting on the spiral rod substantially cancel out each other.

  • Patent number: 8176629
Abstract: A method for screwing together two metal parts that are spaced apart from one another close to a screw connection element and elastically deformable relative to one another, and for the remainder lie against one another. In order to obtain a firm and secure screw connection, with little expenditure of torque, one of the metal parts is deformed, before the metal parts are screwed together, in such a manner that regions close to the screw connection element come close to one another, and the metal parts are then screwed together. A region of the one metal parts remains deformed after they have been screwed together, as a result of the screw connection element.

Abstract: An implant and method for insertion between adjacent vertebral members. The implant comprises an implant body with a base section having a plurality of base extensions, and an end cap adapted for selective axial positioning at a selected point on the base section. The end cap comprises a locking apertures and positioning apertures configured to engage corresponding base extensions, and a variable aperture slot extending through the end cap which is adapted to enable the end cap to resiliently deform as the end cap is positioned on the base section. The locking apertures and positioning apertures will prevent rotational movement of the end cap relative to the base section once the end cap is secured to the base section. The implant imparts end cap height and angulation to an adjacent vertebral body at the selected or desired point when the implant is positioned in the intervertebral space.

Abstract: A method and a jig for mounting of a stack of Belleville springs about a shaft. The individual springs of the stack are first positioned over the shaft. A jig is then placed over the shaft and the springs and has at least one axially extending pressure bar that is radially inwardly biased to urge the inner circumferences of all the springs into contact with axially aligned points on the surface of the shaft. The springs are then compressed using a compression element while they are still urged by the pressure bar against the shaft. Finally, to retain the springs on the shaft and maintain the springs in compression, a split retaining clip is pressed onto to the shaft until it engages in a groove.

  • Patent number: 8146226
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for attaching guide means (106) to a flexible sheet (100), preferably as part of a shading system for a vehicle, and to a device provided therefor. Holding regions (102a, 102b), spaced apart from one another in a Y-direction, of a flexible sheet (100) extending in an X-direction and a Y-direction are spaced apart from one another by being acted upon with a predetermined pretensioning force (Fv) acting in the Y-direction, with the result that a pretension state is achieved. Subsequently, in a further processing state which corresponds to the pretension state or to a pretension state relieved by the amount of a predetermined relief distance (S3) in the Y-direction with respect to the pretension state, guide means (106) extending parallel to one another in the X-direction and spaced apart from one another in the Y-direction are fastened to the sheet (100).
