  • Patent number: 8353093
Abstract: For turbo-diesel application trucks, it is desirable to enable the quickest exit of the exhaust from the engine because, in most cases, the exhaust gas temperatures of these engines are very high. Thus, a hole is formed in the hood of the trucks and the exhaust stack is slid through the hole to permit the quickest exit of the exhaust into the atmosphere. However although the hood may be non-horizontally oriented, the stack should be kept in a vertical position. Thus, a stack mounting basket is positioned beneath the hole having three widely separated outwardly extending threaded bolt extensions that are positioned within three slotted downwardly extending elongated members affixed to the hood. The relative positions of the elongated members with respect to the threaded bolt extensions are adjusted, and nuts are tightened over the elongated members to permit the stack to maintain a vertical orientation.

Abstract: Provided are a gasket, a reactor using the same for sealing a spiral, and a manufacturing method thereof. Spirials are continuously installed in the longitudinal direction between an inner pipe and an outer pipe coaxially arranged to form a flow path for a heat medium, so the seal between the spiral and the outer pipe is stably maintained and fabrication of the reactor is facilitated. The gasket is inserted in and coupled with the spiral, and thus does not need additional processing for combining the gasket. The gasket and spiral are coupled by lodging the spiral into a channel of the gasket. Furthermore, since the gasket is evenly coupled in the outer circumference of the spiral, in which a cushion plate made of resilient material is installed, breakage of the gasket during assembly of the outer pipe is effectively prevented and the post-assembly seal between the spiral and the outer pipe is stabilized.

The one annular end section is inserted into the other annular end section with the outside diameter of the one annular end section pressed by a die so as to be smaller in diameter than the inside diameter of the other annular end section, and then pressing force applied to the one annular end section on the inner side is released to cause it to be in tight contact with the inner surface of the other annular end section on the outer side.

Abstract: To seal an inboard member to an outboard member, a metallic annular seal is inserted into the outboard member to align with an inwardly-open channel in the outboard member. The seal is outwardly expanded at least partially into the channel by a combination of elastic and plastic deformation. The seal is released to allow inward elastic partial recovery. The inboard member is inserted into the seal with interference so as to further outwardly expand the seal and provide sealing engagement between the inboard and outboard members.

  • Patent number: 7779529
Abstract: A coupling between a device and a mating part includes an elastic material and perhaps a tensioner coupled to the elastic material. The elastic material is wrapped around at least part of the device. The tensioner or other method is used to stretch the elastic material, thereby reducing the thickness of the elastic material. With the thickness of the elastic material reduced by the stretching, the device is inserted into a hole in a mating part. Then the tension on the elastic material is removed, allowing the elastic material to increase in thickness, so as to fill at least part of the gap between the device and the mating part. The coupling may act as an effective heat transfer device for transmitting (by conduction) heat produced by the heat-producing device, to the mating part, which may act as, or be thermally coupled to, a heat sink.

  • Patent number: 7765697
Abstract: A process for producing a honeycomb body includes a) producing a tubular casing from sheet metal; b) introducing a hole, delimited by a rim, into the sheet metal; c) fitting a flange piece for a measurement sensor to the hole rim; d) introducing a honeycomb structure into the tubular casing; and e) joining the tubular casing to the honeycomb structure and the flange piece by brazing or welding in a single, common, heat treatment process. Steps a), b) and c) are carried out in any desired order. A honeycomb body includes a honeycomb structure. A tubular casing surrounds the honeycomb structure, has a hole delimited by a rim, and has a necked region surrounding the hole. A flange piece for a measurement sensor is brazed to the hole rim. The process allows a flange piece to be connected to the tubular casing in an advantageous manner as part of an on-going heat treatment process, resulting in a simple and fast production and consequently a reduction of costs.

Abstract: The invention eliminates the need of handling an engine in a process for assembling a torsion damper which couples the engine with a power transmission system and a torque limiter. In a damper unit with a torque limiter positioned between an output shaft of an engine and a power transmission shaft of a power transmission system, the damper unit includes a fly wheel damper, a torsion damper and a torque limiter. The torque limiter of the damper unit is coupled to the torsion damper with a set load applied thereto such that the torque limiter and the torsion damper are combined to form an assembly. The torsion damper and the torque limiter can be assembled by handling, independently of the engine, only components which are smaller and lighter than an engine. This improves the efficiency of the assembling operation of the damper unit with the torque limiter.

Abstract: A graduated set of pillows includes a plurality of three or more pillows. Each pillow is configured for a particular range of human physiological development and has a plurality of critical dimensions targeting proper postural support of persons in such range. For each critical dimension, a first pillow has a minimum dimension and a last pillow has a maximum dimension. The other pillows in the set have distinct dimensions that form graduated increments in the critical dimension over the set from the minimum dimension to the maximum dimension. Specific magnitudes of these critical dimensions may depend on the height, weight, head circumference, length of vertebral column, or neck circumference of an average person within a particular age range, for example. By providing such a graduated transition in each critical dimension, the set of pillows provides proper postural support for the gradually changing anatomical characteristics of developing persons.
