Abstract: A method of aligning and duplicating alignment includes welding a washer over a larger opening in a hinge once in an aligned position relative to a vehicle door. The door is mounted into an alignment fixture and the hinges are installed over threaded studs extending from the door. The washer is placed onto the threaded stud and tightened against the hinge, covering the larger opening in the hinge. The larger opening in the hinge allows movement of the hinge relative to the door for alignment. The washer defines an opening with a smaller opening sized to provide relatively little clearance for the threaded stud, and thereby maintain alignment between the door and hinge. The washer is permanently attached by a welding operation to allow duplication of door hinge alignment during reassembly.

Abstract: A pressure vessel having a removable closure head in a high radiation environment is closed by placing the closure head having a flange over and spaced from the flange of a pressure vessel body containing fissile material. The closure studs are installed in closure stud holes of the pressure vessel body flange. Transition nut members of hydraulic nut assemblies are threaded onto the closure studs. Hydraulic hoses are connected between the hydraulic nut assemblies and a pressure source. The pressure source simultaneously pressurizes the hydraulic nut assemblies to simultaneously apply a uniform force to the closure studs sufficient to seat the spaced apart closure head flange on the pressure vessel body flange and to elongate the closure studs. The hydraulic nut assemblies are locked in place over the closure head flange while the force is applied to the closure studs and the closure studs are elongated.

  • Patent number: 6594879
Abstract: When connecting two elements that are moveable with respect to one another, someamount of clearance, i.e., spacing between the elements, is included to minimize friction between the elements. The present invention is directed to setting the clearance within a desired range, regardless of manufacturing tolerances of the two elements. In particular, the present invention is directed to power cutting tools wherein it is necessary to set the clearance between one or more reciprocating blades and a blade support member.

Abstract: A walk-on tray apparatus for concealing a pool cover operation system, is disclosed. A plurality of brackets each having a load-bearing upper portion may be attached to a sidewall of an elongate recess formed at one end of a pool, such that the load-bearing upper portions of the brackets extend in a substantially horizontal orientation. A plurality of platform sections each include a mortar veneer, a tray with an attachment plate removably disposed beneath an under side of the tray, and a nut-tightening arrangement, such that the load-bearing upper portions may be securely sandwiched between the under side of the tray and the attachment plate. The platform sections may reside in a side-by-side, sequential series. The mortar veneer may be formed directly on the tray, and the facade may be modified and customized to match the appearance of the perimeter sections of a pool deck. The veneer may be composed of mortar, resin and negligible amounts of fiberglass particles, forming an elastic composition.

Abstract: An apparatus for assembling nuts in holes of a workpiece and method therefor are provided. The method comprises the steps of transferring a row of nuts in a groove; moving fastening devices together with clamped steel cables toward the groove; moving the fastening devices to lift the steel cables to penetrate through the holes of the groove and the nuts; removing the steel cables from the groove; repeatedly lowering and opening the fastening devices for dropping the nuts onto one of clamp devices; moving a platform together with the workpiece toward an above board member having an aperture until the hole of the workpiece is aligned with the aperture of the board member; and repeatedly opening and closing the arms of the clamp device to guide the nuts through the aperture of the board member to fall into the hole of the workpiece. This can effect a high yield and reduction in cost.

  • Patent number: 6415496
Abstract: A process for making a dismountable and/or fixed traction-compression coupling to be applied to composite materials, in which a basic laminate (1) of composite material is folded at least once to obtain at least one skirt (2) forming an angle close to 90° with the rest of the laminate; by using a transition radius between the skirt and the rest of the laminate, a set of distribution plates (5, 6) is applied over the basic laminate to stabilize the skirt and produce a uniform load distribution, making holes in each set of distribution skirt-plates and introducing traction bolts (4) with an initial pretension in said holes, hence obtaining the connection between the components to be joined. The invention is applicable to the aerodynamic structures of aircraft.

  • Patent number: 6405425
Abstract: A fastener assembly is inserted into a throughhole of a composite laminate to thereby fasten the composite laminate together. The throughhole has a length extending from a first outer surface of the composite laminate to a second outer surface of the composite laminate. The throughhole has a first width at the first outer surface, a second width at the second outer surface, and a third width at a point along the length of the throughhole between the first outer surface and the second outer surface. The third width is less than each of the first width and the second width. The fastener assembly includes a substantially annular fastener device having an axial opening and a peripheral surface substantially conforming to the inner surface of the throughhole.

  • Patent number: 6324744
Abstract: A specialized mounting arrangement for an accessory such as an engine driven air conditioner compressor to an engine is utilized featuring a pair of press fitted bushings in a pair of arms of the mount and a single bolt extending therethrough. The arms of the mount assembly are constructed so that they straddle portions of an anchor member attached to the engine. A connector bolt is inserted through one bushing in one arm of the mount and then thorough a passage in the anchor member, and next into engagement with internal threads carried by the other bushing which his carried by the other arm of the mount. Rotation of the bolt moves the bushings toward one another and against the ends of the anchor member to clamp the anchor and thus the accessory therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6260252
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for assembling and disassembling an installation present on a seabed, for instance a pipeline lying on a seabed, wherein components, for instance pipe flanges, are mutually attached by means of nut and bolt connections and the nut and bolt connections are released and/or secured by means of a wrench. Nut and bolt connections are herein released by divers using a wrench. This is heavy and difficult work. It is impossible for divers to operate at considerable depth. Complicated and very costly pipeline connections are then applied which can be released and secured without divers. The invention has for its object to reduce the stated drawbacks of the known method. To this end at least one wrench is used, of which an engagement cup for engaging a nut and/or a bolt head in axial direction of a nut and bolt connection for manipulating is displaceable relative to a cup carrier counter to spring action.

  • Patent number: 6230385
Abstract: An elongated wedge shaped spline can be used for joining work pieces in a dovetail joint. It can be used in joining a work piece, such as molding in a dovetailed joint. A divider track having a base support and a pair of spaced apart flanges extending at a right angle from the front surface of the base support is first affixed to a surface. The wedge shaped spline is positioned between and in abutment with the upper portion of the spaced apart flanges. A fan shaped mortise on the back surface of a work piece is positioned over the wedge shaped spline between and abutting the upper portion of the spaced apart flanges. Pressure is applied on the front surface of the work surface of the work piece for seating the work piece on the divider track, thereby forcing the wedge shaped spline between the flanges and spreading the flanges. The spread apart flanges engage the side walls of the fan shaped mortise for joining the work piece in a dovetailed joint with the divider track.
