Shaping One-piece Blank By Removing Material Patents (Class 29/557)
  • Patent number: 6748654
Abstract: A cutting process S1 cuts a wire 1 into cut pieces each having a volume approximately equivalent to that of a desired shoe 11. A forging process S2 sequentially forges cut pieces 2 with forging dies 13, 23, and 33 having three cavities 13c, 23d, and 33e respectively, and obtains a steel sphere 8. A finishing process S3 obtains a shoe-shaped material 10 from the steel sphere 8 without a heat treatment, and carries out a heat treatment to the obtained material 10, thereby to obtain a shoe 11 for a compressor.

  • Patent number: 6625865
Abstract: A method of processing the connecting surfaces between a marine engine frame and an associated bearing support, which parts wholly or partially surround a crankshaft is presented. The bearing support is removed to expose the connecting surface of the engine frame facing towards the bearing support. An auxiliary plane is established which is set-up/extended along the centerline of the crankshaft, and a second line at right-angles to the centerline. In situ processing of the connecting surface of the engine frame is effected at an angle which is a function of the position of the auxiliary plane. It is thus possible to process the connecting surface of the engine frame facing towards the bearing support without the necessity of having to remove the engine frame itself, and to carry out the processing of at least this free connecting surface, while the actual bearing support can be processed in the normal manner.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing fuel tanks by blast shaping of steel is described, preferably stainless steel and occasionally, another type of carbon steel, especially for the type of fuel tanks to be assembled in automobiles, with any simple or complex, reinforced shape and with a wall thicknesses permitting up to a 50% weight reduction with regard to conventional tanks. The process comprises the preparation of flat or not flat metallic pre-forms, with identical or different dimensions, able to be eventually subjected to pre-heating, in order to then be placed into a mold which has the impression which is desired to be transferred, and to be subjected to a blast shaping operation with the use of a suitable fluid (liquid, gas or mixture of both), with the eventual application of intermediate heating operations where applicable.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fatigue life enhanced product from a plurality of workpiece parts. At least one fatigue enhancing operation is performed on a first workpiece at a first work station. At least one fatigue enhancing operation is performed on a second workpiece at a second work station. The first and second workpieces are transferred to a first assembly station, where the workpieces are joined to form a fatigue life enhanced product. Aerostructures manufactured according to the method may include components fabricated at different locations to have fatigue life enhancing properties, especially in bounding material adjacent to holes designed to accommodate fasteners. By use of the method, the final assembly step can thus avoid the necessity to include the processing of holes to enhance fatigue life, since this step has been performed prior to bringing components into position to be joined in the final shape or assembly of the airframe.

The first step is the operation of forming the substantially identical upper and lower half members having a U-shaped cross-section along entire length thereof with radially extending wall sections. Each of the members is metal formed, such as by stamping or forging, from a blank sheet of steel. Next step is to select a desired box-section of an axle beam portions, and a desired size of an opening in a central portion of the axle housing. Then, if necessary, the wall sections of the housing half members are trimmed so that when assembled said housing half members provide the desired box section and size of the opening in the central portion of the axle housing. Finally, the trimmed housing half members are welded to each other to produce the axle housing.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a gas turbine engine fan blade (10) comprises forming three metal workpieces (50,52,54). A metal slab (30) is upset forged at both ends (32,34) to produce a metal block (40) with increased thickness (42,44) extending from opposite surfaces (36,38). The metal block (40) is cut in an inclined path to form two of the metal workpieces (50,52). The metal workpieces (50,52,54) are assembled into a stack (56) so that the flat surfaces (38,42,46,48) are in mating abutment. Heat and pressure is applied across the thickness of the metal workpieces (50,52,54) to diffusion bond the metal workpieces (53,52,54) together to form an integral structure (100). The integral structure (100) is hot creep formed and superplastically formed to produce the required aerofoil shape and the thickened end is machined to form the blade root (26). The method enables thinner metallic workpieces with better microstructure to be used and increases the yield of metallic workpieces.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing hollow bodies such as nut elements to be fastened to components that usually consist of sheet metal. The invention especially relates to a method for producing hollow bodies with an at least substantially square or rectangular outline by cutting individual bodies from a profile in the form of a profile rod or a reel after respective holes have been punched into the profile, and optionally afterwards producing a threaded cylinder. The inventive method is further characterized in that before or after the punching of the profile a passage treatment is carried out in order to produce a cylindrical or annular projection, concentric to the punching or the intended punching, on the side of the profile facing the component by flow of material. The projection is optionally shaped to an annular punched section in an additional molding cycle. The invention further relates to various hollow bodies, assembly units and molds for producing said hollow bodies.
