Shaping One-piece Blank By Removing Material Patents (Class 29/557)
  • Patent number: 7340978
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a rotary tool for chip removing machining with at least one chip flute that extends in the longitudinal direction of the tool. The method involves preparing a mixture of a cemented carbide, cermet or ceramics powder and a carrier, such as a polymer, and placing the mixture in an extruding machine. The mixture is extruded in a feed direction by means of a die to form the diameter of the mixture body. The mixture body passes against a chisel which forms a chip flute in the outer periphery of the mixture body by chip-removing machining. When the chisel is displaced away from the mixture body, a non-fluted shaft portion is formed. By rotating the mixture body while contacted by the chisel, a helical chip flute can be formed. Alternatively, the body could be twisted after a straight flute has been formed, whereupon the flute becomes helical.

  • Patent number: 7169100
Abstract: The invention aims at providing a tool change magazine for laser beam machine to improve machining efficiency of a laser beam machine by installing a tool change magazine containing laser machining tools equipped with a torch and a nozzle replaceably attached to the tip of the torch. A setup station 100 for laser machining tools is installed outside a machining area of a laser beam machine. It includes a tool station 200 of the laser beam machine. The tool station 200 of the laser beam machine is equipped, for example, with four tool change magazines 220. A laser machining tool 60 is returned from a machining head 50 to a tool change magazine 220 and a new laser machining tool 60 from a tool change magazine 220 is mounted on the machining head 50.

  • Patent number: 7162789
Abstract: The method and apparatus for drilling holes and optionally inserting fasteners of the present invention provide for efficiently drilling holes through a multiple-layer structure because the layers are securely held together during the drilling by an electromagnet and a clamp, each on opposite sides of the structure. The electromagnet and clamp hold the layers together so tightly that burrs do not form within the holes and debris does not accumulate between the layers and, therefore the layers do not have to be disassembled after drilling. In addition, the apparatus and method of the present invention provide for initially drilling the hole with a countersink and for inserting a fastener into the hole, through the electromagnet, immediately after drilling the hole, such that the hole does not have to be revisited after reassembly and drying of the sealant in order to drill a countersink and/or insert a fastener.

  • Patent number: 7159294
Abstract: The invention provides a burr removal apparatus for laser beam machine which removes burrs formed on the top surface of a workpiece. When, for example, pilot holes PH are produced in a workpiece W by a laser machining tool 60, molten particles scatter to form whisker-like burrs Wb on the top surface of the workpiece. A whisker-like burr removal apparatus 700 has a machining head 710 which is raised and lowered by a cylinder 720. It removes the whisker-like burrs Wb with a machining tool 730.

  • Patent number: 7159436
Abstract: An asymmetrical tool is provided to form an asymmetric orifice for an orifice disc. The asymmetric orifice is initially formed with a wall portion extending generally perpendicular to first and second generally parallel surfaces of the orifice disc. The wall of the orifice is deformed by the tool into an inlet portion contiguous to the first surface and a transition portion spaced from the first surface. The transition portion of the wall extends substantially perpendicular to the first and second generally planar surfaces. The inlet portion of the wall extends at a first oblique angle with respect to the first surface, and the first oblique angle varying with respect to the longitudinal axis. A method of forming the orifice with the tool is described.

  • Patent number: 7159314
Abstract: A cylinder housing (1) is cast with a cylinder wall (2) in the making of a cylinder for an internal combustion engine. The cylinder wall delimits an interior space (3) for accommodating a reciprocating piston and, thereafter, a control window (5) is machined into the cylinder wall (2) as an opening of a transfer channel (4) into the interior space (3). A two-stage machining for forming the control window (5) is provided in order to make possible a rapid and cost effective manufacture of the cylinder. In a first step with a work tool (7) having a rotating primary movement (11), a breakthrough (10) is machined into the cylinder wall (2) and, in a second step with a work tool, the breakthrough (10) is widened to the wanted dimensions of the control window (5).
