    Abstract: A silicon carbide rail for use as a support in an apparatus for holding semiconductor wafers is made by forming a first series of parallel slots or grooves into the front side of a graphite plate usually without piercing the back side of the plate, converting the slotted graphite plate into a slotted silicon carbide plate, and forming a second series of parallel slots into the back side of the slotted silicon carbide plate such that each slot on the back side connects with a corresponding slot on the front side. The width of each back side slot is less than that of the corresponding front side slot, thereby forming rail teeth having a ledge running along their to top surfaces.

    Abstract: A gear reducer housing includes rotating assembly supports in a housing shell, and fixturing pads disposed about the periphery of the housing shell. The fixturing supports are formed in the casting blank from which the housing shell is machined. The pads permit the shell blank to be fixtured once for machining of various features of the final shell. The pads may be formed in a peripheral flange and the flange may be machined around the pads to form a sealing surface. Apertures may be provided in the flange to facilitate assembly of the gear reducer. The apertures and fixturing pads may be provided in mirror image locations about a centerline of the housing. The apertures may be slotted, with major axes of mirror image-located apertures having transverse major axes, such that inherent tolerance is provided for positioning fasteners used to assemble the product.

    Abstract: A method of forming patterns, trademarks and balance weight in a golf club head includes fabricating a rough working piece of the club head which has a trough located at a lower portion and reverse recesses for selected patterns and trademarks located at an upper portion thereof. Then fill and stuff the trough and recesses with a metallic material different from the club head that has a lower melting point (such as copper powder). Thereafter the stuffed recesses and trough and rough working piece of the club head are heated until the stuffed metallic material melted to form a strong binding with the rough working piece. Then grinding the rear side of the stuffed patterns and trademarks to expose the patterns and trademarks. The stuffed material in the trough becomes a balance weight. Finally to engage a hitting plate with a front circumferential edge of the trough to form a finished club head.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for in-situ milling includes a support and a pair of spaced apart rails attached to the support. The support and rails are mounted between a pair of opposed mill housing wear plate surfaces. A milling assembly is reversibly mounted on the rails in either of a first orientation and a second orientation. In the first orientation, the milling assembly mills one of the wear plate surfaces. The milling assembly is reverse mounted on the rails to the second orientation for milling the other of the wear plate surfaces. This permits the support and the rails to remain in one position between the wear plate surfaces requiring only the milling assembly to be moved to accomplish milling of each of the wear plate surfaces.

    Abstract: A manufacturing method for a golfing iron club and an iron golf club manufactured by the method. A shaft is connected to a head 1 having a face 3 on a front and a shaft attachment portion on one side. After a pre-forging stage using an upper die and a lower die, a rear region corresponding section 9′A and a lower peripheral face corresponding section 11A are machined with an end mill A. Then post-forging is performed using an upper die and a lower die to form the head 1. Thereafter, post-machining is performed using an end mill B. Thus, a rear region 9A and a lower peripheral face 11 can be formed without forging. Machining can be carried out between the pre-forging and post-forging stages, so that locations which are difficult to forge can be accurately formed. In addition, the head 1 is able to be formed more freely, owing to a post-machining stage.

    Abstract: A method for repairing a turbine blade having a crack in a trailing edge portion of the blade includes the steps of cutting back a first surface of the turbine blade adjacent the blade trailing edge portion where the crack is located, and cutting back a second surface of the turbine blade adjacent the blade trailing edge portion where the crack is located. Each cut back step comprises cutting back the respective surface by a depth greater than the length of the crack and less than the trailing edge radius to remove the crack and form a cut back trailing edge portion. A compound radius is used to prevent a blunt transition into the trailing edge that would result in aerodynamic losses and to reduce the airfoil root stresses. The method also includes applying a thermal barrier coating to the turbine blade to increase service life. Prior to applying the coating, the tip portion of the turbine blade is modified to account for the change in the thermal characteristics of the turbine blade.
