  • Patent number: 8113415
Abstract: A tooling fixture is disclosed that includes a weldment having spaced apart lateral members interconnected by opposing side members. Spaced apart trunnions support the side members for rotation about an axis, in one example. A locating pin is arranged between each side member and trunnions to enable quick and accurate location of the tooling fixture relative to the trunnions. The pins are at a right angle relative to the axis, in one example. Tooling plates are removable secured to each of the lateral members. Adjustable brackets are secured to the tooling plates and support tooling that cooperates with a workpiece supported on the tooling fixture. In one example, jack blocks, shims, squaring plates and stops are used to permit precise adjustment and repeatable relocation of the tooling in three directions.

  • Patent number: 8104161
Abstract: A hydraulic subassembly is preassembled outside the vehicle into which it is later installed, using an assembly tool. The components of the subassembly are fastened in predetermined positions on the assembly tool, following which hydraulic connections are made between the components. The completed subassembly is fastened to a pickup tool and then disconnected from the assembly tool, allowing an assembly operator to lift the subassembly away from the assembly tool and carry it to the vehicle for installation. The pickup tool is also used to position and hold the subassembly within the vehicle while the subassembly is being connected to hydraulic systems on the vehicle. Following installation of the subassembly, the pickup tool is unfastened from the subassembly and removed from the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20110285070
Abstract: A quick-release vise utilizing one or more clamp shafts that can be easily re-configured to clamp with CW or CCW rotation of a clamp handle. The clamp shaft is received in a housing secured to the underside of a workbench, and is free to slide in and out. The clamp shaft passes through aligned holes in a pair of opposing jaws, at least one of which is moveable. A pinion freely slides on the clamp shaft within the housing and converts rotational movement from the clamp shaft into linear movement via a meshing rack gear. The linear motion actuates a bridge which slides against a laterally fixed wedge causing the bridge to displace a locking element which clutches and moves the clamp shaft to affect clamping between the jaws. The wedge and bridge pair can be inverted to allow clamping to occur with a either CW or CCW rotation of the clamp handle and/or re-oriented to cause a spreading motion between the jaws rather than a clamping motion.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing the lowest workpiece from a stack of a plurality of substantially similar workpieces. A horizontal shuttle has a lip on its edge, and is driven in one direction to remove the lip from a void beneath the stack, thereby permitting the stack to fall. The lowest workpiece drops into the void, and the next higher workpiece rests on the upper surface of the shuttle lip. The shuttle is subsequently reversed to drive the workpiece into a slot in a vertical clamp body. The clamp body is driven downwardly, thereby driving the workpiece downwardly, to be acted upon by a secondary device, such as a conventional degating apparatus.

Abstract: A part hanger is provided that engages a part being treated in a manner that orients the part so that treatment liquid tends to drain from the part. To this end, a part hanger is provided that is configured to suspend a part for treatment with a liquid. The part hanger includes one or more elongate members formed into a substantially U-shape having first and second side legs connected by a bottom leg. The first leg is configured to support a portion of the part from below at a first leg distal end. A hanger extension is connected at one end to a second leg distal end. The hanger extension is disposed substantially parallel to the bottom leg and terminates at a hanger extension distal end in a mounting feature. The hanger extension terminates prior to contacting the first leg distal end such that the first leg distal end and the mounting feature define a part clearance gap through which at least a portion of the part may extend into the U-shape.
