Abstract: A plurality of sensors are embedded in a form fitting garment similar to exercise togs such that the sensors are held in contact with or close proximity to the body. The sensors are connected via a plurality wires to an electronics module which is unintrusive being literally in its ultimate configuration the size of a credit card. A range of thickness, from 6 mm (6 credit cards) down to 1 mm or less, is possible for the module inclusive of a rechargeable lithium polymer battery. The electronics module can be easily removed for garment maintenance (laundering).

  • Patent number: 8752277
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an antenna device may include a first step of forming an antenna circuit so that the resonance frequency of the antenna circuit will be lower than an oscillation frequency of the reader/writer. The antenna circuit includes an antenna coil that receives the magnetic field transmitted from the reader/writer and a capacitor electrically connected to the antenna coil. The manufacturing method also includes a second step of affixing a magnetic sheet to the antenna coil via an adhesive. The magnetic sheet is at a face-to-face position with respect to the antenna coil and is configured to change the inductance of the antenna coil. The adhesive is of a film thickness to change the inductance so that the resonance frequency of the resonance circuit will be coincident with the oscillation frequency depending on the spacing between the antenna coil and the magnetic sheet.

Abstract: The methods and systems according to the present invention overcome the high-frequency radiation and thermal interferences on an electrochemical sensor combined with long range radio communication. A Faraday cage is used to shield the sensor from the radiation in one embodiment. In another embodiment, a controller is installed between the sensor and the antenna to deactivate the antenna emission when the electrochemical sensor is conducting measurement. To control thermal interference, the temperature rise is controlled. The battery temperature is monitored and charging cycle is controlled. The temperature rises can also be avoided via intermittent use of the radio, heat sink strategies to direct heat away from the radio circuitry, and radio module construction designed to minimize heat emission.

Abstract: An electronic circuit that needs to transmit or receive radio waves achieves that goal by using an antenna. This disclosure teaches an antenna that can be mounted on an edge of a circuit board. This disclosure teaches antenna shapes that, when mounted on an edge of a circuit board, can advantageously make contact with circuits on both sides of the board. Some antenna shapes have protruding portions with springiness that facilitates affixing the antenna to the board and facilitates reliable electrical contacts with the circuits. The disclosure also teaches methods for mounting an antenna on an edge of a circuit board.

  • Publication number: 20140159989
Abstract: Adjustable antenna structures may be used to compensate for manufacturing variations in electronic device antennas. An electronic device antenna may have an antenna feed and conductive structures such as portions of a peripheral conductive electronic device housing member and other conductive antenna structures. The adjustable antenna structures may have a movable dielectric support. Multiple conductive paths may be formed on the dielectric support. The movable dielectric support may be installed within an electronic device housing so that a selected one of the multiple conductive paths is coupled into use to convey antenna signals. Coupling the selected path into use adjusts the position of an antenna feed terminal for the antenna feed and compensates for manufacturing variations in the conductive antenna structures that could potentially lead to undesired variations in antenna performance.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing, antenna, and circuit board carried by the housing and having radio frequency (RF) circuitry operative with the antenna for receiving and transmitting RF signals through the antenna. A power amplifier is connected within a transmission line for amplifying RF signals to be transmitted over the transmission line to the antenna. An antenna switch is connected to the antenna and RF circuitry. An RF shield surrounds the power amplifier and antenna switch and isolates the power amplifier and antenna switch from the antenna and RF circuitry. A low pass filter is connected to the power amplifier and antenna switch for reducing any RF coupling of voltage standing waves of upper harmonic frequencies from the power amplifier into the antenna switch through the RF shield while maintaining transmission of signals through the transmission line at a desired fundamental frequency.
