Patent number: 5685067Abstract: A crimp terminal is supplied to a predetermined crimping position. Into the barrel of the supplied terminal, the wire end of an insulated conductor is inserted. At that time, the cable conductor end is aligned in the desired proper position for crimping. Even when the cable conductor end is deformed or broken in the stripping or supply processes, all the cable conductor ends can be reliably accommodated in the barrel of the terminal. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent crimping defects caused by exclusion from the terminal of one or more wire ends.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1995Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Eiji Fudoo

Patent number: 5653015Abstract: A multiwire cable connection apparatus reduces the mutual entangling of wires 4 and prevents damage of the insulation of the wires when pressure connected to 5 contacts 8 of a connector 6. A wire-controlling member 210, which extends along the longitudinal direction of the connector 6 is located between an end 2a of a multiwire cable 2 and a back surface 6d of the pressure contact type connector 6. Since the space wherein wires 4 cross each other by the transfer after the identification of wires 4 is restricted to the space between the multiwire cable 2 and the wire-controlling member 210, wires 4 are pressure connected to the assigned contacts 8 without crossing each other in the space between the connector 6 and the wire-controlling member 210. Therefore, the wires 4 do not engage with the connector 6 over the time from the wire identification to the transfer to the assigned contacts 8, and no damage is caused to the insulation of the wires.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1995Date of Patent: August 5, 1997Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventors: Kohji Imai, Shiroh Yabe

Patent number: 5628108Abstract: A wire transferring assembly for a wire harness assembly machine has two adjoining termination stations. First connector elements are advanced in a reciprocating nest from a supply of connector elements into contact with wires extending from a positioning head and terminated thereto. After termination, to the wires, the connector elements are drawn away in the nest from the wire feed source and the wires are cut at their ends opposite the first connector elements. The cut wires are clamped onto a moveable clamping head and maintained in a preselected order while they are transferred to a second termination location, where a row of second connector elements are advanced into contact with the wire ends and terminated thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1994Date of Patent: May 13, 1997Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Peter Ingwersen, Lawrence M. Patent number: 5575058Abstract: A pallet 71 is provided to array connector housings C side by side in correspondence with the side by side alignment of an aligning unit A in a plurality of rows. A conveying unit 74 includes a plurality of actuators 74a for holding a row of connector housings C arrayed side by side on the pallet 71. Conveyors 74b, 74c and 74d are further provided to carry actuators 74 a integrally to the aligning unit A.In changing the combination of the connector housings to be handled, only the pallet needs to be replaced without necessitating a change in a conveying unit. Accordingly, the conveying unit 74 can be widely used for a variety of connector housings, and labor and time required for replacement can be reduced. Further, installation can be of smaller size compared to the prior art guide member for guiding the connector housings C in sliding contact therewith, leading to a considerable reduction in installation cost.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Tokuji Nakamura, Kenichi Taniguchi, Hiroki Shuto, Yoshinobu Ohta

Patent number: 5548892Abstract: The present invention is an improved machine (10) that automatically severs an insulation displacement contact (80) from a carrier strip (90), inserts the contact into an insulating connector housing (210), terminates a wire (242) to the contact (80), and trims the end of the wire flush with the edge of the housing (210). The trimming operation is accomplished during the last part of the contact insertion stroke, after the insulation displacement contact (80) has just begun to engage the wire (242), so that the wire is securely held in place during trimming. A pair of opposite moving slide (126, 132) are utilized where one slide (132) is moved directly by the inserter (28, 260) so that it causes a lever (152) to pivot which in turn moves the other slide (126), carrying the wire trimming blade (192), in the other direction. The lever (152) is arranged so that movement of the one slide (132) results in a greater movement of the other slide (126).Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1995Date of Patent: August 27, 1996Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventor: Charles E.
