Roller Making Patents (Class 29/895)
  • Patent number: 5398409
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making reusable paint rollers comprised of a core formed from thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic material is formed into a core about a stationary mandril. An adhesive is then applied to the core whereupon a cover is bonded thereto. In a first embodiment the core is formed by winding a plurality of thermoplastic strips about the mandril. In a second embodiment the core is formed by applying liquefied thermoplastic material to a driven belt which transfers the thermoplastic material to the mandril.

  • Patent number: 5397414
Abstract: The invention consists of applying a thermosetting adhesive in a molten state to an area where a strip of pile fabric is wound onto a plastic tube which is mounted over a rotating roller. The molten thermosetting adhesive is applied by a nozzle connected to a reservoir where the thermosetting adhesive is heated. After application, the adhesive, the strip of pile fabric and the plastic tube are joined together, forming a structurally integral paint roller body.

  • Patent number: 5307563
Abstract: A roll which has a metallic core and an elastomeric envelope is obtained by assembling the cover from a stack of discs each of which surrounds the core. In order to impart to the cover a desired elasticity, the discs contain a fibrous material and a plastic substance and are pressed against each other in the longitudinal direction of the core. The plastic substance is hardenable within an interval exceeding 48 hours. The pressing step is started with a delay following the step of placing the discs around the core such that the hardening begins prior to compressing and is terminated within an interval not less than 48 hours following the start of the pressing step.

  • Patent number: 5277690
Abstract: A roll, specifically a paper machine press roll, with a hollow rotatable roll body features a roll shell and on at least one of its two ends a hollow roll journal. A guide body which is stationary or fastened to the roll body extends through the interior of the roll body and forms with the roll shell a channel system through which a tempering medium flows. For purposes of using air as tempering medium, a pressure blower and/or a suction blower are connected to the channel system. The channel system and the blower(s) are so dimensioned that an air flow velocity above 10 m/sec will materialize in the channel system.

  • Patent number: 5172170
Abstract: An apparatus in which a donor roll advances toner to an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member. A plurality of electrical conductors are located in grooves in the donor roll. The electrical conductors are spaced from one another and adapted to be electrically biased in the development zone to detach toner from the donor roll so as to form a toner cloud in the development zone. In the development zone, toner is attracted from the toner cloud to the latent image. In this way, the latent image is developed with toner.

  • Patent number: 5138918
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing a drum blank for machining includes inserting a cylindrical mandrel within a bore of a drum blank, introducing a liquid support material into a space between the outer diameter of the mandrel and the inner diameter of the drum blank, and solidifying the support material. Once the support material is solidified, the drum blank is securely held to the mandrel. Machining operations can be performed by mounting the assembly in a lathe. After machining is completed, the support material may be treated so that the mandrel can be removed from the drum blank. The mandrel may then be recycled.

  • Patent number: 5074019
Abstract: In a roll with a roll shell or jacket which is rotatable about a support or beam, the inner side of the rotatable roll shell or jacket is heated by means of an induction coil which is operated at high frequency and provided, for example, at a support element. The heating is effected directly at the press or work nip or in the proximity thereof without substantial loss of energy and without the use of a thermo-sensitive hydraulic medium.

  • Patent number: 4585361
Abstract: An improved dot matrix actuator is provided which includes a magnetic circuit formed of a yoke assembly and a pivotal armature. The armature is pivotally supported with respect to the yoke by means of a flexure assembly which eliminates the need for a true pivot between the two elements. The elements are shaped so as to maintain a constant small air gap therebetween so as to maximize the magnetic efficiency of the device while eliminating wear. The device is operated just below saturation of the magnetic circuit in order to maximize efficiency. In addition, the actuator includes several features for maximizing its speed and operational efficiency.
