  • Patent number: 6036240
Abstract: Two mating L-shaped steel sheet casing members in one embodiment for sliding doors are secured to a corresponding door and have overlying front walls in the closed state. Each member has a plurality of corresponding locking keeper elements. In the closed state the keeper elements are in interdigitated juxtaposed and preferably welded to the casing members via through optional bores in the casing members, or extend through the side walls of the casing formed by side wall sections. The keeper elements in one subassembly are slotted to allow for misalignment with the other keeper elements for receiving a locking bolt seal shaft. The keeper elements optionally have tongue projections for engaging a gap between the closed doors. An angle iron member shields the rear of the chamber below the lowermost locking element to protect the seal locking body. Other embodiments are disclosed and include cast assemblies with no weldments and a single casing and hasp for use with swinging doors or a rail car plug door.

Abstract: A retaining latch for use in a hazardous materials storage or handling facility to adjustably retain a water pit gate in a gate frame. A retaining latch is provided comprising a latch plate which is rotatably mounted to each end of the top of the gate and a recessed opening, formed in the gate frame, for engaging an edge of the latch plate. The latch plate is circular in profile with one side cut away or flat, such that the latch plate is D-shaped. The remaining circular edge of the latch plate comprises steps of successively reduced thickness. The stepped edge of the latch plate fits inside a recessed opening formed in the gate frame. As the latch plate is rotated, alternate steps of the latch plate are engaged by the recessed opening. When the latch plate is rotated such that the flat portion of the latch plate faces the recessed opening in the gate frame, there is no connection between the opening and the latch plate and the gate is unlatched from the gate frame.

  • Patent number: 5673175
Abstract: Computers are manufactured with connectors in which are inserted at least one PCI expansion card to increase the capacity of the computer. A computer enclosure panel is formed with first opening for insertion and withdrawal of the card. The card has a cover which blocks the first opening after the card has been plugged in. The invention provides a retainer mounted on the rear panel which engages the cover to hold one end of the card in place. The invention further provides room for the tab conventionally extending outward of the card to extend outward of the enclosure so that the card may be located closer to the side panel, thereby conserving space within the enclosure. The retainer has an apertured first door pivotally mounted on the exterior of the panel which in closed position surrounds a second opening through which the card tab protrudes and engages one face of the tab. A second door is pivotally mounted on the first door and in closed position covers the aperture in the first door.

  • Patent number: 5546277
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a latching mechanism for securing an enclosure case of a computer system to a rack. The rack has two pairs of spaced apart posts, each having attachment locations for supporting two cooperative oppositely facing bracket members. The bracket members include platforms for supporting the bottom of the case, such as a case for a CPU. Each member has supports for rotatably receiving a torsion shaft of a latch. Each shaft is formed with two spaced apart arms having outer portions that engage the upper corners of the opposite sides of the case at two locations on each side. The arms of each shaft are angularly displaced relative to each other along the shaft so that one arm is caused to engage the case before the other arm, and in effecting the holding contact of the arms a torque is placed on the shaft, which remains as a positive force latching the case to the bracket and hence to the rack.

Abstract: A redundant safety lock for securing a centrifuge lid in its closed position. The lock includes a disc having an aperture through which a striker on the lid can be inserted in an unlocked position. The disc is rotated to a locked position such that the striker cannot be withdrawn through the aperture to open the lid. The weight distribution of the disc is substantially symmetrical about its center of rotation. The disc is therefore less susceptible to dislodging form its locked position upon perturbation from shock experienced.

Abstract: A latch system for securing upper and lower cowl sections of an outboard motor. The latch system comprises a catch assembly located at one end of the cowl assembly, and a latch mechanism located at the other end of the assembly. The catch assembly includes a catch block mounted to one of the cowl sections, with a catch slot formed in the catch block. A roller member is mounted to the other of the cowl sections, for engaging the catch slot. The catch slot is formed so as to provide an end wall against which the roller is maintained when the cowl sections are secured together, with the material of the catch block engaging the roller member to prevent relative vertical movement between the cowl sections. A cam block is located at the same end of the cowl assembly as the latch mechanism, and is mounted to one of the cowl sections. A cam follower is mounted to the other of the cowl sections, and engages a cam surface formed on the cam block for facilitating movement of the roller member into the catch slot.

  • Patent number: 5112004
Abstract: Strap dispensing and accumulating apparatus including a device for feeding strap from a strap supply to a strapping machine and an accumulator for accumulating strap being fed forwardly from the strap supply or being pushed backwardly by means of tensioning rollers of the strapping machine. A stretch-out box has an inlet, an outlet, and a lower wall. When pivoted to one position, a strap guide coacts with the lower wall, and with other elements, so as to define a channel for the strap between the inlet and the outlet. A detecting device is arranged to deactuate the feeding device when strap accumulating within the stretch-out box reaches a predetermined level. A flexible chute guides the strap from the outlet to a strapping head of the strapping machine. A combination of such apparatus with a strapping machine having a strapping head is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5052727
Abstract: A window latch mechanism for use on cab structures associated with agricultural and construction machinery having improved resistance against breakage. The resistance against breakage is accomplished by constructing the window latch from a resilient material shaped in a forked configuration having a first and second tine. The latches are oriented such that the tines maintain a general vertical orientation. The window latch is pivotally connected to one tine, and the remaining tine is supported by the window slide. Vertical forces imparted to the window are reflected onto the latch and cause the resilient latch tines to move relative to each other, thereby allowing the tines to absorb the forces.

Abstract: A latch assembly includes a housing for inserting through an opening or breach in a door panel and secured to the panel by a retaining cage. In the preferred embodiment, the housing and the breach will have the same cross-sectional square shape. A retaining cage includes a retainer plate and a plurality of supporting legs and substantially surrounds the housing when the assembly is mounted on a door panel. At each cornering edge of the housing, a depression is formed for receiving a retainer extension formed at the end of each supporting leg. Each supporting leg also includes a support claw or tip which, in the mounted position, engages a surface of the door panel and pierces any non-conductive coating thereon so that the rotary bar handle and the other parts of the assembly may be electrically grounded. The cooperative configuration of the housing and the retaining cage permits mounting of the assembly in one of four positions.
