Multiple Sections Hinged Together Patents (Class 296/100.09)
  • Patent number: 8960765
Abstract: A tonneau cover system for a cargo box of a pickup truck having a first tonneau section, a second tonneau section, a third tonneau section, and a fourth tonneau section, each being generally coplanar in an extended position. A first hinge system hingedly couples the first and second sections to permit pivotal stacked nesting of the first section relative to the second section. A second hinge system hingedly couples the second and third sections to permit pivotal stacked nesting of the combination of the first and second sections relative to the third section. Finally, a third hinge system hingedly couples the third section to the fourth section to permit pivotal movement of the combination of the first, second, and third tonneau sections relative to the fourth section into a retracted, stacked, and rotated upward position.

  • Patent number: 8939494
Abstract: A roll up cover for a box of a pick-up truck includes a plurality of substantially rigid slats connected by hinge joints. A flexible sheet of material is attached to the top surface of the slats. The hinge joints include a stop which allows pivoting of adjacent slats only in a direction moving the top surfaces of the slats towards each other, to allow the cover to be rolled up with flexible sheet facing inwardly, and with bottom surfaces of the slats facing outwardly, and not vice versa. Side rails are attached to the box of the pick-up truck. A roll rod in each side rail pivots into closed position when the cover is unrolled, with the roll rods engaging the end fittings on the slats, to hold the cover down onto the side rails.

  • Patent number: 8893834
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns an airflow baffle system and sealing system which effectively seals an articulating hood, such as for a wheel loader, for more efficient routing of cooling air and exhaust air. The articulating hood may have multiple hinges connecting the hood to the motor vehicle. For example, a rear hinge or set of hinges may allow upward and rearward rotation of the entire hood, while a second set of hinges atop the hood may allow for upward and forward rotation of only a portion of the hood when quicker access to only a portion of the engine compartment is required.

  • Patent number: 7334830
Abstract: A soft top tonneau cover is formed from a plurality of hinged frame sections that are foldable between overlaying positions and extended positions. Camlock clamps are integrated into the frame so as to provide a stable, quick release latch to the walls of the bed with a minimum of spacial intrusion into the bed. The hinge between the frame sections has a double pivot so as to automatically tension the top when folded open. Strap clamps are integrated into the frame so as to permit the sections to be secured when folded closed.

  • Patent number: 7278674
Abstract: A cover for enclosing a cargo box of a pick-up truck which is manufactured from an inventory of common parts. The cover is a pair of rectangular panels pivotally connected with a hinge for rotation about a transverse axis on the cargo box. Each of said panels is bounded by a pair of slender spaced apart side members, a slender inner transverse member and a slender spaced apart outer transverse member. The transverse and side members are cut from unspecified lengths of extruded stock to conform to the length and width of the cargo box. End portions of the transverse and side members are joined with molded plastic elbows to form outer corners. The hinge is covered with a thin rubber seal to prevent water from entering the cargo box. A plurality of slender longitudinal support members between the side members are joined to the inner and outer transverse members with S-clip fasteners. A safety latch limits the opening of an improperly latched cover.

Abstract: A cover assembly for a pick-up truck cargo box includes first and second rails attachable at the sides of the box. A cover has a first resilient hinge strip connecting a first panel to a second panel and allowing the first panel to pivot relative to the second panel. A third panel is attached to the second panel by a second resilient hinge strip, which allows the second panel to pivot relative to the third panel. The panels are supported on the rails. Latches on the panels hold the panels onto the rails. The cover may be opened by sequentially releasing the latches and folding the panels over onto each other.

  • Patent number: 7216919
Abstract: A vehicle-mounted, covered container apparatus includes a container member, a telescopic collapsible cover assembly, and container-to-cover attachment means connected between the container member and the telescopic collapsible cover assembly. The container member can be a sander container. In this respect, the vehicle-mounted, covered container apparatus prevents snow and rain from getting inside the sander container and freezing the sand. Preferably, the telescopic collapsible cover assembly is dome-shaped. The telescopic collapsible cover assembly includes a plurality of rigid curved cover units that are dome segments and that are telescopic with respect to each other. In addition, the plurality of curved cover units are in the form of dome segments. Preferably, the container-to-cover attachment means include a pair of hinge pins connecting the first curved unit, the second curved unit, and the third curved unit together to each other and to the container member.

  • Patent number: 7093881
Abstract: A hard tonneau cover having one or more sections is constructed of a framework of extruded rails with one or more section panels held by molded plastic trim strips installed on perimeter rails included in the framework. The cover is mounted above the cargo box of a pick-up truck by a plurality of striker-latch assemblies on one side of the cargo box, and hinge assemblies on the other side, each having components mounted to the cargo box side walls with universal clamp brackets. The panels are constructed of reinforced corrugated plastic which is covered by a color integrated film. A simplified connector plate is used to connect abutting ends of the rails in the fiamework. A peripheral seal extends down from the perimeter rails in which it is mounted to engage the top of the cargo box side walls and tailgate. Water drainage paths including drainage channels in the rails are provided to eliminate water from the panel surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7036861
Abstract: A storage box for a cargo bay of a vehicle including a conveyor on which items, e.g., tools and materials, are stored. The conveyor is actuatable to move the items in a pre-selected direction, preferably toward the side or rear of the vehicle cargo bay to provide easy access to the items. In another aspect, the storage box includes fold-out shelving. The shelving includes multiple panels hinged together. A first panel is hingedly connected to an intermediate panel, which is hingedly connected to a second panel, which is pivotally connected to the storage box. The panels are operable in (a) a collapsed mode, where the panels fold substantially vertically against one another, and (b) an extended mode, where the first panel moves outwardly to a substantially vertical position and the intermediate and pivot panel pivot downward to a substantially horizontal position.
