Patent number: 4879853Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the mounting of windows in a frame, particularly to the mounting of windows of a vehicle, e.g. an automobile, in the body frame work. The invention provides a window ready to be mounted comprising, along its edges, a first profiled bead of adhesive material, already cured and having the general cross section of an U-profile. This first bead is elastic but not plastically deformable. The first bead comprises in its interior a second bead of plastically deformable not yet cured adhesive material consisting of a substance chemically compatible to the material of the first bead. The second bead, serving as the real adhesive material, is protected from environmental influences e.g. by covering it by a protection foil which is removed just prior to mounting the window.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1988Date of Patent: November 14, 1989Assignee: Gurit Essex AGInventors: Jurg G. Patent number: 4852935Abstract: The invention is a backlight assembly which attaches to the roof section to form a convertible top of a vehicle when the roof and the assembly are both in the raised positions. The backlight assembly and the roof section have independent linkage mechanisms which allow each to be positioned independent of the other. The predetermined path of the backlight panel as defined by the linkage mechanism and the guideframe combines both rotational and sliding movements. This is accomplished by initially radically rotating the panel in a counterclockwise manner and then moving the panel along a substantially horizontal plane. When the backlight panel reaches the extreme rearward portion of the guidetracks, the panel is situated in a substantially horizontal position beneath the rear decklid.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1988Date of Patent: August 1, 1989Assignee: ASC IncorporatedInventor: Donald Varner

Patent number: 4833847Abstract: A flush mounting molding of the present invention has a strip-shaped head covering a channel formed between a window frame and a windshield glass of an automobile, and a leg, to be inserted and installed into the channel, having a window frame contacting lip and a windshield glass receiving lip and formed integrally and vertically on the bottom surface of the strip-shaped head. The window frame contacting lip is divided into a plurality of window frame contacting lip members by slits in the longitudinal direction thereof, and the length of the window frame contacting lip members is varied in the direction toward the window frame. Thus, some of the window frame contacting lip members contact with the window frame in approximately perpendicular manner. Accordingly, the flush mounting molding does not come out of the channel. Thus, no defective automobile assembly due to the come-out occurs, and the productivity of the automobile assembly is improved.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1988Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yukiyoshi Inayama, Akio Sorimachi, Tomohiro Sugizaki, Shinichi Goto, Kouichi Satou, Masatoshi Nagata, Takuji Nagata

Patent number: 4611850Abstract: A clip device for fixing a window glass in a motor vehicle comprises a body side clip secured to the vehicle body at a position adjacent an outer peripheral edge of the window glass, a screw threadably coupled to the body side clip, a clip body fixed to the body side clip by means of the screw and having a forward end portion extending away from the screw for pressing the outer peripheral edge of the window glass, and a retainer tightened and fixed together with the clip body to the body side clip by means of the screw from the outside of the clip body. The forward end portion of the clip body is formed into a thin wall projection, and the forward end portion of said retainer is brought into contact with the outer surface of the forward end portion of the clip body and extends away from the screw and toward the center of the window glass farther than the forward end portion of the body. The window glass is pressed toward the vehicle body by means of the forward end portion of the retainer.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1984Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yoshihiro Fujikawa

Patent number: 4591203Abstract: A modular window assembly includes a glass panel with a peripheral molded PVC frame having an undersurface engageable with a pinchweld flange defining a window opening in a vehicle. A plurality of cylindrical, finned PVC studs are integrally molded to the PVC frame undersurface and are alignable with slots through the pinchweld. A central passage extends axially through each stud, most of the way, but not all the way therethrough. The diameter of each stud is slightly larger than each pinchweld slot. A pin in each central passage, when pushed, stretches the studs, decreases their diameter so that they pass through the pinchweld slots. Releasing the pins lets the studs resiliently return to their original shape to retain the window assembly to the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1984Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Herbert Furman
