Window Support Means Patents (Class 296/201)
  • Patent number: 5522191
Abstract: A window assembly for mounting in a recessed window opening, especially as the rear window in the passenger compartment of a pickup truck or other motor vehicle, has slidable and fixed positioned panes, preferably right-side and left-side fixed positioned panes with a slidably mounted center pane between them. A mounting frame including a molded plastic, single-sided frame member supports the fixed positioned pane(s) by adhesive surface bonding to a perimeter portion of the interior surface of the panes. The peripheral edge and the exterior surface of the fixed position pane(s) are free of adhesive bonding to the single-sided frame member. The mounting frame also provides an exterior show surface substantially flush with the exterior surface of the fixed position pane(s). The window assembly presents, therefore, an overall flush surface appearance with exposed peripheral edge surfaces of the fixed positioned pane(s).

  • Patent number: 5519979
Abstract: A motor vehicle glazing (1) prepared for installation according to the adhesive process is provided with a profiled spacer (8) produced by extrusion of an extrudable polymer directly onto glazing (1) and subsequent setting. During installation of glazing (1) in the window opening of the motor vehicle body, profiled spacer (8) acts as an intermediate member between glazing (1) and assembly adhesive extrudate (13). Profiled spacer (8) is provided along its outer periphery with a lip portion (10) projecting beyond peripheral area (3) of glazing (1). In the installed position of glazing (1), lip portion (10) rests against the window frame flange (4) running parallel to peripheral area (3) of glazing (1) and acts, upon insertion of the glazing during the setting process of assembly adhesive (13), as a support and centering element for glazing (1).

  • Patent number: 5396746
Abstract: A molding construction is provided for concealing or finishing the space between the window and the body panel of a motor vehicle. The molding construction includes a mounting strip having a portion extending around and spaced laterally outwardly from the window edge and secured to the window edge by adhesive. A reveal which can be produced by various manufacturing processes and shaped in various configurations is dimensioned to meet the design criteria of the application and to aesthetically cover the space between the window edge and the body panel. The reveal includes a thermally stable tongue which is detachably lockingly received within a recess formed on the mounting strip. A resilient bumper or bulb is secured to and extends laterally outwardly from the mounting strip. This bumper engages a side flange of the body panel and cushions the mounting strip with its attached window against lateral movement. This design virtually eliminates all sources of stress on the glass.

  • Patent number: 5360251
Abstract: The molding member provides a substantially vertical wall along either side of the windshield, and a flush surface along the top side of the windshield so that rainwater on the surface of the windshield is prevented from flowing sideways along the side windows of the vehicle, and guided to the roof of the vehicle body. The transition from the middle portion of the molding member to the end portions is so gradual and smooth that it is highly pleasing to the eye, and would not create any undesirable aerodynamic disturbances. In particular, because the vertical walls on either side are defined as a smooth extension of the convex exterior surface of the head portion of the molding member, they can prevent accumulation of snow which otherwise may be produced along the side edges of the windshield as a result of operating a windshield wiper during snowfall but still effectively prevent the flow of rainwater to the side windows of the vehicle during rainfall.

  • Patent number: 5355651
Abstract: A glass mounting arrangement for mounting a window glass in a window frame comprises a channel-shaped flexible strip which has apertures at intervals therealong. Each aperture sealingly receives an arm of a respective mounting clip. Each mounting clip has a U-shaped portion which seats in a recess in the channel of the strip. The strip with the clips mounted therein is placed on and along the peripheral edge of the window glass before the latter is offered up to the window frame. As the window glass is moved bodily towards the window frame, the arms contact the window frame and correctly position the window glass with respect to the window frame. The arms of the clips elastically deform to allow locking shoulders to pass over the edge of the frame, the arms thereafter resiling to secure the window glass in position. Lips provide additional sealing. The mounting arrangement is particularly suitable for use with a robot.

The window is equipped with an emergency handle which may be used to pull the latches towards each other, and thereby enable the window to assume a fully open position. In the fully open position, inversion stops prevent the window from inadvertently closing in the event that the vehicle is overturned. The latches are housed in a latch cover which has latch openings. The latch openings are sized so that they prevent manual use of the latches to cause the window to be fully opened.
